Austin Jackson Back at Practice

Good to see Jackson back and practicing today.   The O line has played well without him, but seemed stronger with him in there.  The Dolphins used an extra O lineman on Myles Gaskin’s TD run the other day (right after Van Noy returned the fumble to the 1-yardline), plus they used Christian Wilkins as the FB.  The play worked too well!   I like those jumbo packages when we need a yard.  Remember the Philbin/Gase days?  They would have run shotgun fade routes 3 plays in a row and then kicked a FG.

New Dolphins RB DeAndre Washington joined the team but cannot play yet due to Covid protocols.  Gaskin is out for about a month, and Matt Beida is hurt (undisclosed, but he missed practice).  So expect Jordan Howard and Patrick Laird to get many more carries.

  1. It’ll be interesting to me who starts at RT assuming Jackson is ready to play this week. Hunt has played pretty well, and Davis is consistently solid though with probably a lower ceiling. Either way it’s going to be an interesting game because Tua is going to have to throw the ball a lot more if we’re down to Howard and Laird at RB. Can’t expect defensive and special teams touchdowns every week.

  2. Ha idiot gase wouldn’t even put a RB in the backfield and then throw it 25 yards or more down field every time. Every D knew what he was doing there was no deception yet he’s supposed to be a genius… may end up an 0-16 genius!

  3. They are reporting that one of our assistants has covid, hopefully it isn’t spreading through the organization!

And now Lynn Bowden has covid too. This could get dicey.

      1. Breida is also out with a hamstring how is this possible! They can’t even dress the new guy yet. Time for Howard it’s now or never buddy….although Laird has done well in the past too.

Yes, we have to go with Howard and Laird. Laird has been decent, but not a star. Seems like he’s always playing behind someone else. Perhaps he shines for a day in an increased role. Chandler Cox the fullback might get some extra carries. Also, Malcolm Perry, who took some snaps as the wildcat QB, could play back there if needed I bet.
I’m still concerned about the covid tests. A coach and a player have it already, and these typically come in waves…

  4. A win in Arizona will be tough, with Phins running game injuries and and a Cardinal running QB. The way that you beat the Dolphins defensive schemes is with a scrambling running QB, hence our 0 and three record against such QB’s. Hopefully Kyler makes some Sophmore year mistakes! Go Dolphins!
