Although not acknowledged by the team, many media reports are saying that Clyde Christensen will be the Dolphins next offensive coordinator.

Given the fact that Adam Gase is head coach and will call all plays himself, one has to wonder what the offensive coordinator will do.   To find out what a figurehead offensive coordinator with no power really does, you need only look back as far as Joey Philbin in Green Bay.

As we’ve stated many times here at Dolphins Truth, Philbin worked as Mike McCarthy’s OC in Green Bay.  McCarthy saw Philbin and worked with him day in and day out for many years.  In all that time, McCarthy never once allowed Philbin to make a decision.  Stephen Ross, literally, was the first man on earth to allow Joe Philbin to make football decisions.   Ross, a total stranger to Philbin, thought he knew better that McCarthy, who knew Philbin intimately.

We all saw how well that worked out.  Although somehow, unbelievably, some of my readers still defend Joe Philbin and blame Jeff Ireland for Philbin’s lack of common sense, skills, brains, etc.

Anyway, we were watching the Titans’ press conference today, where Mike Mularkey was named head coach.   He was filled with passion and seemed truly humbled.  Not overwhelmed by the job, but humbled by it.   Adam Gase was the other way around.  I still hope we’re all wrong about Gase, and only time will tell.

Did you notice that Mike Shula’s offense put up 31 points in the first half alone against the best defense in the world?

By the way, ever since Adam Gase left the Broncos, all they did was secure the #1 seed in the AFC and move to the AFC Title game.

The Broncos are better without Gase, and their success this year proves it.   For good measure, throw in the fact that Gase’s new team (Chicago Bears), finished in last place.

Last year under Gase, Denver was bounced in the first round of the playoffs with Peyton Manning playing all season.  This year, once Gase was gone and without Manning, the Broncos went to #1.  It shows you how unimportant Gase was to that team.   They used a second-string QB this year and did better WITHOUT Gase.

Yet in the world of Stephen Ross’s logic, you hire medicore men with no track record.  “Why not?  It’s only my NFL team.  As long as someone doesn’t hire an inexperienced mediocre coach for my beloved Wolverines.”

I’m confident that Gase can increase the offensive production.   Do you realize that last year, we scored 21+ point only THREE times? You can’t get much worse.

I don’t fear Gase’s offensive plans.  I fear his overall head coaching inexperience.  He leaves more questions than answers heading into this season.  He has no experience with challenges.  No experience in deciding what to do on fourth down.  No experience winning an argument with an NFL ref.  No experience speaking to anyone on his team’s defense.  No experience with the logistics of running a travel schedule, a practice, discipline.

I wouldn’t mind so much if Ross and Tannenbaum at least acknowledged that Gase will learn all this on the fly.  At least admit that he has no experience in these matters.   But no.   Ross is already implying that Gase is ready.  And why?

Ross listed Gase’s credentials as “people said good things about him.”  That was it!  Ross had never met the guy!  He’s trying to sell Gase to us by saying that other teams liked him.  Again, let’s hope we’re wrong and Stephen Ross is right…

    1. With unfortunately and quite sadly, the same crap owner.

  1. Guys….. let’s live in separate parallel universes for a minute…. The Cameron era was different from the Sparano era and the Philbin era and the Campbell era…. stop comparing previous blowhards from what’s next.

    1. Author

Cam Cameron’s hero Ted Ginn is about to play in the Super

      1. Yeah and I have a hunch that Ginn is going to come up big in the game against the Cardinals . I’m picking him as my fantasy WR

  2. He’s got a pretty good pedigree. And since his last name isn’t Lazor , I consider it an upgrade. We have talent on offense, we don’t need a genius but common sense and dare I say someone who prefers the fundamentals to gimmick and trick plays. BTW who else better was available?

    1. There is no talent on offense ……….unless you are comparing us to college teams. Its like pulling teeth to score points with these scrubs.

      1. Author

Jay, say what you want about Tannehill… but when you say that Jarvis Landry, Brandon Albert, Devante Parker, Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi have no talent, then that says ore about you than it does about Tannehill.

        1. Landry is the only one that has some talent. The rest are garbage and would be hard pressed to start on any other team. Albert is not a skilled player and always injured anyway. I’m talking about skilled players. Our TE and QB are both pathetic.

    2. Author

Phinsup, I think Mike Shula or Brian Billick were better, but otherwise I agree with you. Except we don’t want to overdo it with the fundamentals. I think Philbin failed because he wanted to treat the NFL like a classroom…teaching fundamentals but ignoring emotion, momentum, and other basic stategies.

      1. I thought Phinsup was talking about OC when he asked who is better? If he was talking about HC there were about 20 people better than Gase IMO.

  3. Tannepuke runs the “prevent” offense!! LOL

  4. Ranking for 2015

    QB — THill #9
    WR– Landry #4
    RB– Miller #25

We all know Miller is a top 10 RB if they would give him the ball.

    1. Tannehill’s QBR ranks 22nd. And his points scored are 27th.

  5. Miller is not durable enough to get more carries. The Dolphins got the most they could out of him. And he’s a backup on 20 other teams.

  6. @kelrvet

I can tell you where Tannebust ranks extremely high. Most losses by a QB in the last 4 years!! And that’s what counts the most!

  7. If tannehill sucks next year he’ll be done there’s really no doubting that. So just relax and see what happens, this was a rough year where the whole team took a step back including the QB. Next year is huge if the team isn’t competitive and fighting for a playoff spot I’m almost sure there will be a new QB in 2017 but it would be nice if this new crew can get the best out of tanny. Finding a great quaterback is maybe the hardest thing to do in any sport so if the one the team already has can step it up that would be nice

    1. Author

I agree fully with Zach. Let’s see if Tannehill shows any improvement under a newer, smarter offense. If not, I will be the first to call for his ouster. I am not shy about saying which players do not belong on the Dolphins, let alone the NFL. Damien Williams, Jamar Taylor, etc. But I do not see Tannehill as that bad. His skills can improve.
However, the scary thing is that his skill set is the least of our worries. I am far more concerned with his lack of passion. His nonexistent drive to win. His basic knowledge of the NFL, let alone the QB position.
For example, at the end of the Steeler game with their season on the line, it was their final play. Big Ben was about to get sacked, so he flipped it back to some big fat offensive lineman. Refs blew it dead anyway, but it was so impressive to see a desperate QB do something other than taking that sack. Worth a try, ya know? We have NEVER once seen that from T-hill, and I do not think it can be taught.

      1. You can’t teach pocket presence and The ‘Bust has NONE!

      2. He doesn’t have the physical skills to be accurate. And he doesn’t have the physical skills to have pocket presence. Your lack of accurate assessment is mind boggling. No offense.

        1. Author

His pocket presence is the worst. I put that under the category of lacking passion/killer instinct. When the walls are closing in, he lets them close instead of fighting through it, no doubt about it.
But his accuracy has gotten better each year. He’s a great runner when allowed to run. He throws some brutal passes at times, but so do the great ones. It’s not accurate to say that he lacks the physical tools. It’s more accurate to say he has the tools but doesn’t know how/when to use them

          1. Joe Theisman on the radio said Tannehill doesn’t have the physical skills to be accurate on the mid-long passes. I agree.

            1. I call BS on this stupid line of commenting

Tannehill for all his shortcomings nailed the long ball this year. You guys are blind or dishonest if you cant come to terms with that.

Here are the REAL stats (Link at bottom of post)

              QB Ranking Passes +20 yards

              1 – Blake Bortles
              2 – Drew Brees
              3 – Carson Palmer
              4 – Russell WIlson
              5 – Tom Brady
              6 – Ryan Tannehill

You still want to tell me that his deep ball sucks?

He was also sacked 45 times behind that poor excuse of an offensive line and how many of those +20 were on the hands and dropped by the receivers?

If he had the kind of time any of the other QB above him has to throw the ball I think we would be ok

If you want to point out problems there are plenty – his deep ball isn’t one of them anymore.

This new staff had better bring in an NFL OL if the want to help Tannehill improve.

          2. Want to see 2 extremes-compare The ‘Bust and Roethlisberger when discussing pocket presence.

    2. We should have the top pick in 2017, after 2-3 wins this season,so it’s all on TannenBOMB to make it and his useless GM to make it.

  8. “Mike Mularkey was named head coach. He was filled with passion and seemed truly humbled.” He better be. With his atrocious HC record he’s lucky somebody hired him.

Ross, copying Kraft who hired Bill Belicheck, feels the owner should select the HC. Unfortunately, he was bamboozled by Philbin into believing that as HC he would turn Miami into Green Bay South.

Did Gase bamboozled him too? We shall see.

BTW, Don McCafferty, George Wilson, Lou Ryukus, Elgin Tobin, Guy Chamberlain and Norman Barry had their first ever HC job in the NFL and won the championship in their first year.

  9. “If tannehill sucks next year he’ll be done there’s really no doubting that.”

We’ve been saying that for the LAST THREE YEARS AND HE STILL SUCKS!!

    1. Actually no one ever said that but you before this year

      1. Author

I was saying he sucks during early games of 2014, when Philbin was gonna bench him allegedly. But then we went to London, killed the Raiders, and T-hill really really upped his game. He won me over for the rest of 2014. During 2015, he did regress. But I hope he can rebound.

          1. They’d be much better off if they got rid of him and moved on. Enough is enough.

            1. Philbin could not get rid of RT because he is Ross’ franchise qb.

        1. I said it the night he was drafted- major mistake-and most of my friends agreed-but what do we know-we’re only fans. It was a sad night.

      2. All the fans in the Miami area were saying that. You clueless out of towners clearly don’t know.

  10. How many coaches can Ross fire before he realizes its the QB? LOL

    1. Author

      At least Three…and counting.

  11. Was Tannepuke the straw that broke the camels back for Ireland too? I forget.

    1. I don’t care what it took to get that POS out of Miami! He ruined this franchise-along with help from many others.

      1. Author

Remember when Ross was following the advice of life-long KC Chief executive Carl Peterson? You take a guy with red and gold in his blood, who guided the Chiefs for 20 years (and zero championships), who was retired and ready to live out his golden years….and you throw a few million dollars at him to lure him out of retirement for his advice.
How much heart do you think Peterson put into that advisory job? “Yeah, I don’t feel like doing my research today. Just draft Michael Egnew and hire that Philbin guy. I’m sure they’ll be great for you Stephen”

  12. @ John
It will take 3-4 years of good drafts to repair the destruction Ireland did to the roster. If they don’t have good drafts it will take much longer.

    1. @Jay
I agree. I know everybody here doesn’t want to hear “rebuild” but that’s where we’re at. Those morons that said we were 1 -2 players away from contending for a championship before the season started,or said that we were a playoff team, should be bitch-slapped. The only thing that will shorten the process is to ACTUALLY chose the correct free agents and make wise trades-neither of which happens on a regular basis.

      1. Fins are 2 players away from contending for a championship: King Kong and Godzilla.

        1. Nah, I think they’ll need Superman also! LOL

    2. If the fins get a dirty dozen draft like the 1975 cowboys, they may make the playoffs.

  13. And good drafts includes getting a franchise QB.

  14. Steve Ross, the worst owner in sports.

      1. @palo

Jones has had winning seasons and won SB’s.

        1. Jones also has provided the nicest state of the art stadium in the league.

          1. Give me the old orange bowl and a championship team.

        2. That’s because of JJ, not him. As soon as JJ left and his players were gone, the cowpokes stink.

          1. Maybe so but he still deserves credit for landing a great hire at a great time.

          2. Barry Switzer took over for JJ and won a Super Bowl.

            1. Jones has had plenty of success. Ross hasn’t had any…. not one single winning season. I’d renew my season tickets if Jones owned the team!

  15. I’m glad our seasons over. It was dreadful again. At least the Heat and Panthers are winning teams and the Marlins with Don Mattingly and Barry Bonds coaching should be fun.

  16. OK FANS
READY FOR THE POLL OF THE DAY?

WHICH IS THE WORST FRANCHISE IN THE NFL?

    A) JACKSONVILLE JAQUARS
    B) MIAMI DOLPHINS
    C) CLEVELAND BROWNS
    D) WHO CARES? THEY ALL STINK

    1. Author

I gotta go with CLEVELAND, mainly due to their total lack of success every year.

How many more of those +20 were called but not executed because they take 3.5 seconds to develop and our QB was on his back or running for his life in 1.8 seconds?

If he had the kind of time any of the other QB above him has to throw the ball I think we would be ok

If you want to point out problems there are plenty – his deep ball isn’t one of them anymore.

      1. Brian,

Most are those were short passes in the air where the receiver had yards after the catch. Tannehill ranked 28th in the league on passes of 15 + yards in the air.

      2. “Tannehill blames poor footwork on his issues with accuracy. The quarterback has regularly missed open receivers and continues to find little success on his deep-ball connection”

Even the homer owner Steve Ross admits Tannehill lacks accuracy….

      3. @Brian M

Tannepuke leads the NFL in losses the last 4 years. And that’s the only stat that counts. He just sucks.

  20. John it’s crazy that for someone who claims to have been a fan for as long as you writes the stuff you do. I mean you sound like a 12 year old crusing for the first time. Like u must be at least in your 50s judging by what you’ve said and you think you can bitch slap me, or anyone else? Dude I would run circles around you. Start acting your age

    1. WTF are you talking about, asshole? I’ve probably forgot more than you’ll ever know about the Dolphins. What’s your problem? Nobody said anything about bitch-slapping you-you fucking moron.

      1. Zach is not the brightest bulb in the closet haha.

  21. “Those morons that said we were one or two players away from a championship deserve to be bitch slapped” scroll up john u literally said that on this message board then tried to deny it. And my problem is your pessimism and disrespect, always talking shit on every player.

    1. There aint much good about 6-10

      DUUUUHHHHH

    2. You do have issues. Was I addressing you? “Always talking shit on every player”? How disturbed are you? Do you represent players? Work in the Dolphins PR dept? And as well as I know the present and past players for ALL 50 years, I do indeed feel free to “talk shit”. Now go away.

  22. @ ZACH

“And my problem is your pessimism ”

What do you expect when the team stinks for 8 years straight??
    GEEZ!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A MORON!!!!!!!!

  23. Lol here’s a question what’s the point of being a fan of a team if all you do is complain about it, yea the team sucks but guess what I don’t control the team so whether I’m pessimistic or not means nothing, to me the whole point of being a fan is sticking with your team. Miami has sucked for years but any team can turn it around at anytime. It’s sports crazy shit happens, if you think there gonna fail no matter what why watch? I really don’t get it. There’s two ways to look at everything and I’m saying when the dolphins finally get good it will be that much better for the fans that stuck through all the shit years.

    1. True Zach. Last season, we were predicted to do well and we did shit. Next year we will be predicted to be last and may be first.

    2. Wouldn’t you be upset if you caught your S/O cheating on you?

  24. Right take half a quote and call me a moron cause of it, that’s real ironic. But it’s the offseason I’ll be back once free agency and the draft starts take it easy dolphinstruth hopefully the fins actually play it smart this year

  25. Look forward to your valuable input around draft time. And the start of free agency.

  26. Wish Ross would sell the team to someone who cares.

  27. Here’s a pic of Jay at his computer.

      1. Being called a Dolphin troll is a compliment. They’ve been right on the Ross Dolphins for nearly a decade while the homers are always wrong and banging their heads against the wall year after year. The homers have to be sadists-masochists!

  28. So…..after Tannepuke stinks it up next year who gets fired, Gase?? LOL

    1. Joe Theisman on the radio said Tannehill doesn’t have the physical skills to be accurate on the mid-long passes. I agree.

      1. Theisman spent his whole career handing off to John Riggins.

        1. I hate the SOB but you’re clueless.
