Before I could even write “Go, Colts,” it’s already 14-0.  Game over.    Good to see that the Dolphins aren’t the only team who refuse to follow Detroit’s simple and successful plan to beat the Patriots.

Then again, Colts coach Frank Reich proved how stupid he was last week by handing a free win to the lowly Texans.  Don’t forget, Reich only has this job because the Pats’ offensive coordinator was not a man of his word and lied to the Colts.

Patriots’ get their Thursday night game this season at home yet again, just like every year.   Again.  While Miami has to go on the road for their short week. Yet again.  I cover this phenomenon every year in my annual Schedule Release article.   But it still burns me when the games finally get here.  Patriots in the middle of a 3-game homestand.  Do you know how many other NFL teams get a the advantage of a three-game homestand?

  1. It’s the Kraft/Patriots League-they ask,,they get. Regarding schedules,it won’t change in my lifetime. But at least our bye week is a more tolerable date this season.

  2. The fact that apparently no other teams even bother to closely mimick what Detroit did to the pats – completely baffles me. It’s not like the lions are loaded with all stars. No, Matt Patricia created the correct scheme and game plan – to obliterate the pats.

Arrogance and inflated egos of these head coaches seem to be getting the better of them lately, to the point where they don’t even consider what was successful and worked before vs. the pats

  3. Matt Patricia did coach for New England for a long time. So it kind of makes sense that he had the perfect game plan against them. The truth is the colts are horrible and if it wasn’t for 2 drops by the pats the ended by being interceptions the score would of been 48-10. Hopefully what Miami did last week was an aberration and we’re not as bad as the colts.

  4. We beat 2 crap teams and the Titans without Mariota. I said the Pats game would be a gauge for the crazies that actually thought we were a REAL 3-0 team. Reality hits. We are a crap team.

I wouldn’t say “crap team” yet. We played a bad game vs. a championship team. Next up we play a “good” team, but the Bengals are not on the same echelon as the Pats.
Like I’ve said for 3 weeks in a row, it all comes down to Adam Gase’s play calling.
He must rely on some ingenuity, and not rely on “fundamentals” The other team’s first-string defensive line will ALWAYS be better than our 4th string O-line. We are so banged up and barely hanging in there, now with our 3rd string center getting the start next to a 2nd-string guard. Gase simply MUST NOT believe that backup substitutes are going to stand up to the Bengals STARTING nose tackle. He has to create and innovate ways around that mismatch.
Unfortunately for us, he he extremely slow to adapt.

  5. I thought weeks 4,5, and 6. Would tell how real we were going to be. I thought the Sitton injury was real bad for us, now Kilgore, and Hays and the defensive injuries adding up, and cutting Jordan Phillips really hurts the rotation on the D line they were counting on. We are still 3-1, but these next two weeks will really tell how it’s going to go. I have to agree with admin and many of you on play calling on offense. I thought Gase would really use the speed guys with jet sweeps and deception, I mean we have four 4.3 or 4.4 guys that should be devistating to defenses! We should be copying the Chiefs and Rams. Watch how the use their guys with motions and deception!

  6. Yeah not every play needs to be a gadget trickery. But not every play needs to be the same old base vanilla like we ran Sunday either. Every play we ran was Gase 101, and the Patsies were prepared

  7. I’d rather the Fins throw a bomb than run a draw on 2nd 20 every time. At least it loosens the D and with the speed you probably catch a few. I’m not sure why he didn’t sprinkle in a few of the other successful plays probably over thought the whole thing. BB just sits there and probably thinks great I don’t have to worry about what they do well now that was easy…

No matter what play we run on 2nd and 20, Gase will be sure to gain 5 yards, punt, and then say later, “We kept digging a hole that you can’t get out of.” Uhhh, yes you can. I watched the Pats in awe last night, especially after penalties when they had 1st and 15 or 1st and 20. 7 yard pass right out of the gate. You don’t need the full 20, but you certainly have to do better than a no-gain draw play

  8. Truth is, the Patriots played a 1-3 beat up and hurting, tired and depleted team who had to travel to Foxboro and everyone who watched that game have to admit that. Actually, I didn’t expect the score to be as close as it was. Remember, in the 4th quarter when the Colts had trimmed the lead to 24-17 with nine minutes left, Tom Brady dropped back and had enough time to cook a Thanksgiving turkey and still somehow, miraculously one of his receivers caught the ball in the end zone when he threw that bomb. You can just see how exhausted the Colts defensive linemen were then. But I’ll give the Colts credit, they put up a valiant fight, and unlike Adam Gase, Frank Reich had to not only adjust how he was attacking the Patriots, he had to constantly put together a team from scraps to do it as the game went on.

I wonder if the Colts are going to kick one of their defensive linemen to the curb after playing the Patriots? Hmmmm…….

Some folks say I’m nuts, but I’m convinced the Bills would have won 2 of their 4 Super bowl losses if they let Frank Reich play. Remember, he had just completed the greatest comeback in NFL history, down 32 points against the Oilers. He was on top of the world and that entire team responded to his will.
Remember, the same two teams played a week earlier in the final game of the regular season. With Jim Kelly at the helm, the Bills got destroyed 27-3.
So under Kelly, the Bills got toasted and Kelly allegedly hurt his knee. So the following week, Reich plays, and puts up 41 on Houston.
5 days later, Marv Levy benched Reich and went back to Kelly. Season over.
      Flawed logic.
Just ask a guy named Tom Brady, who only got to play because Drew Bledsoe got hurt. What happened when Bledsoe got better? Stay with the hot hand at all times. It’s not rocket science.

      1. Well Admin, in my opinion, the Bills shouldn’t been allowed back in the Superbowl for a few years after losing their first two in a row. Remember, two of those four loses were against the Cowboys with one of them being an embarrassing blowout. And Admin, you know what also looked embarrassing?.. Oswieler coming into the game against the Patriots and looking better than Tannehill. Some people may say it was against a scrub Patriots defense, but still………..

  9. Reading a lot about how Miami needs to get drake involved if they want to be better. Here is the problem with that, the offensive line has been dominated by 2 pretty below average defensive lines in Oakland and New England. Cincinnati has a pretty dam good defensive line and if the oline doesn’t step up and play 100x better drake will end up with 20 carries for 25 yards.

It’s as simple as Drake trying to dance around holes and/or wait for them. But Gore drives through and makes his own.
Gore has simply outplayed Drake. Seems like Gore is always good for 3 or 4 yards even with bad blocking.

      1. Remember Admin, Ajayi used to do the same thing – drive through and makes his own.

        1. The problem with Ajayi is his success started getting to his head and he kept trying to break everything into a huge run. I think Drake is having the same problem right now. Admin is spot on when you have a bad offensive line you just gotta put your head down and fight for 3-4 yards. Do that twice in a row and it’s 3rd and 2 instead of 3rd and 8. Drake needs to stop dancing with the oline Miami has his stats wont look great but he can help make the team better. I think he might be to worried about that yards per carry average.

        2. Author

Ajayi had 3 different 200-yard games for us in 2016, and he pretty-much singled handedly got us into the playoffs by beating Buffalo (in frigid upstate NY) in Week 16. Cost Rex Ryan his job.
You just don’t give away that kind of talent…not for a 4th round waste of a draft pick anyway.
I agree the success got to his head, but a strong coach would correct that via discipline and repetition.

  10. “The problem with Ajayi is his success started getting to his head and he kept trying to break everything into a huge run. ”

    wtf?

Yeah, okay man.. you really broke that shit down.

    1. Want me to break it down for you? Ajayi had 600 yards in 3 games. The other 12 games he started in 2016 he had 600. In 2017 in the 7 games Ajayi played he had an incredible 450 yards rushing with 3.4 yards per carry. So yea my statement was accurate. If you want to continue to complain about Ajayi being traded that’s fine but just know he hasn’t had a single game anything close to those 200 yard games since he was traded. We’re all entitled to our own opinions and mine is that Ajayi is a slightly above average NFL back with knee problems.

      1. Author

FF27, I don’t dispute your facts. But also remember, that Gase benched him on every single third down in 2016. Gase felt that perennial All Star Damien Williams was better than Ajayi. Gase is the only man on God’s green earth to think so.
Now, if Gase would have left Ajayi in on third downs, would he suddenly be a 2,000 yard rusher? No, no way. But he was certainly a better option than Damien, and I suspect he would have kept a lot more drives alive if used correctly.
It’s neither here nor there as Jay is gone. Drake and Gore are good backs, and our entire running game is due for a huge breakout. Let’s hope it’s Sunday.

      2. Saying “The problem with Ajayi is his success started getting to his head and he kept trying to break everything into a huge run” doesn’t read like its an opinion, it reads as stating a fact or tact which no running back should be trying to do so that’s not an accurate statement.

Now see what you did with this statement when you said your “opinion” is that “Ajayi is a slightly above average NFL back with knee problems.”

See the difference in the second paragraph? You’re not talking as if your were in his head when he played for the Dolphins or you were privy to some first hand knowledge about his running technique that’s flawed but the rest of us don’t didn’t know about it. You let everyone know off the bat that this is “YOUR OPINION.”

        1. I thought everyone knew it was just an opinion. I’m not trying to piss anyone off we’re all dolphin fans here and I’m no NFL expert. All my posts are always just some random fans opinion. And trust me I’m not right all the time, or even most of the time.

          1. No problem FINSFAN27. No matter how some of us Dolfans may feel about Ajayi, I believe we all miss him. His 200 yard games were a thing of beauty which extremely rare for Dolphins running back and I think that is one or probably the biggest reason ADMIN is so pissed that the Dolphins got rid of him. I know I am.
