First:  I know sometimes my site is wonky and you get error messages.  I’ve been battling my host on this, who say “nothing is wrong.”  It is wrong, as I cannot get to my own site at times.  Just refresh and try again, and it comes up within a minute.  Thanks for your patience while we work this out.

Second:  There is still a little mystery surrounding who exactly in the Dolphins organization wanted DeShaun Watson so bad.  Grier?  Ross?  Flores?   But there is absolutely NO doubt about who wants Jim Harbaugh.  Ross made his love of Harbaugh known early and often.  He took the disastrously unprecedented step of offering JH a job while Tony Sparano was still our coach!  Then Ross had the gall to lie about it and say Tony was his man all along.   It’s such an embarrassing blemish on the Dolphins, caused–as usual–by our owner.

In a few days’ time (perhaps hours), Harbaugh may resign from Michigan.   He will be free to coach anywhere.  This time around, the Dolphins do NOT have a current head coach under contract.  If Ross moved Heaven and Earth to land Harbaugh last time, do you think he’ll idly sit by this time?  Just because he said a few weeks ago that he won’t hire Harbaugh, does anyone believe a word this guy says?

Harbaugh is a much better choice than the other rumored coaches (San Fran’s OC and the Rams’ assistant RB coach) because he played in the NFL and led a team to a Super Bowl appearance.   THOSE are his qualifications.  The fact that he coached Michigan?  Unimportant.  The fact that Ross loves the guy?  MORE unimportant.

I am still hoping for a grand slam.  I am hoping that the Dolphins are secretly interviewing someone like Doug Pederson or Rex Ryan.  Perhaps they are not ideal, but they are credible.   They are not the next round of wunderkinds destined to fail like Gase.  They will not say, “I have to watch the tape to learn how to coach better” like Flores.  But as time goes by, that grand slam is looking less and less likely.

Another thing to watch out for…Let’s say Harbaugh steps down and Ross hires him.  Imagine the collusion conspiracies that will arise.  Ross will get accused with meddling with someone under contract, and it ends up penalizing the Dolphins.  I would not be surprised.  “Oh, we just got lucky that we needed a coach and Harbaugh became available.   Just a coincidence.  We didn’t know anything about it in advance.  Didn’t plan it.”   Uhhhhh….

Onto the Super Bowl.   A lot of talk today about how hard it is to lose a coin flip in overtime, in Kansas City, and still win.   But there is precedence.  The Bengals followed this model on how it’s done!!   (Sorry, but this is still the greatest NFL game of all time, even if we don’t remember it fully…)

  1. If we get Harbaugh I’ll be pleased. Not sure of how much of an upgrade it it’s over Flores but it’s better than whatever other OC is left. Hope he can attract and hire a good staff and build something.
