After dropping a sure would-be touchdown, Jaylen Waddle followed that up by flubbing a pass right in his arms.  The Bucs intercepted the ball and the game was over.

Waddle simply isn’t a good player, and he’s certainly  not at the NFL level.  Chris Grier wasted first-round draft capital on this bum.  Grier needs to go.

On a day when shoulda-been Dolphins Kyle Pitts, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Herbert shined, Chris Grier and Jaylen Waddle showed why the Dolphins haven’t been relevant in years.   Bad choices.  Bad execution.  Bad performance.    And no repercussions.   That’s the sad part.

If I have to find SOME silver lining, it looks like Jaelan Phillips is slowly producing    He really is getting better each week, and I expect a breakout game coming soon.

But everyone else?  All these other bums Grier selected?  I don’t see it    Jevon Holland?  Austin Jackson?  Noah Inactive?  Hunter Long?

Has Grier been paid off by the Patriots and Bills?   Grier is killing this team

  1. I mean 3 firsts for a slot receiver, that in and of itself is worth firing him over. But this is what happens when your owner knows nothing about the game. Just a rudimentary knowledge would make you question the move. Or better yet, why draft a slot receiver after your big, off-season signing was Fuller. They could have signed Green Bay’s all-pro center then drafted Sewell and the o-line is formidable. Need to review Romo’s comments regarding the lack of pressure at the LOS by our d-backs and how this allows receivers to get to their routes quickly. This is poor coaching period, from a defensive guru.

West, your comment is not well said. It is PERFECTLY said. The only part I would add is to remind everyone what you meant about giving up the picks. Grier traded up from 12 to 6 to get Waddle, who I’m positive would have been there at 12 anyway. We gave away our own #1 pick in 2022 PLUS our #1 pick in 2021 for Waddle.
All because Grier saw a Tyreek Hill highlight reel from the one decent season Hill had.

  2. I know we need help at nearly every position, but for the love of god please replace our punter. The dude can’t kick more than 20 yards it seems.

Too cheap to pay Haack, who is now enjoys life as a Bill.

  3. you do make a strong no-brainer case for the failure of Grier and need to get rid of him by the end of the season, I think we should give the two rookies Waddle and Phillips the benefit of the doubt of a full year. But I am concerned too and not impressed with Waddle so far….

A long time ago , I spoke to an assistant GM, and we talked about the change from college to pros. He said it’s a huge change for most positions, except two. Kickers and WRs.
You kick the ball exactly the same in college and pros, and you catch the ball exactly the same. Fundamentals are identical. Now, running complex pass routes vs. NFL defenders is different.
If Waddle is still learning the playbook or learning to get open vs. complicated defenses, then of course I would give him time. But that is not his problem!
His problem is that he cannot catch. And then occasionally when he does make a catch, his alleged speed and playmaking are nonexistent. He was great playing in those Alabama 75-0 games, but he’s not a pro-caliber WR (yet).
We’ll give him time like you said (do we have a choice?) But I can’t see him suddenly improving.

  4. If we lose to Jacksonville, someone needs to be “relieved of duties” in other words- fired! My choice is Grier. He is responsible for drafting the players. Many of whom continue to underperform. And if Flores can’t turn it around after Grier gets let go, then he should let go too. It seems like the team is turning against him. There’s very little passion and enthusiasm on the field- particularly on Defense. Anyway enough of my venting but Damn!

    1. When we lose to Jacksonville…

        Ouch!
Last year, our season turned around with a win over the Jags. We were 0-2 at the time. I don’t think a win in London will turn our year around, but it would be nice to get a win.

        1. I’m not saying a win against Jax turns the season around but if the Dolphins lose this one- that’s all there is. We are officially the worst team in the NFL – again! The laughing stock – again! The bottom dwellers- again! Ross should be absolutely peeved about his team is playing, how his coach is coaching, and his Manager is drafting. Someone has got to go. Again, just my $0.02.

          1. Agreed-the game was televised in NJ/NY market since Jets were playing during breakfast. Did anyone see if owner Ross was shown in a box or on the field? I left the house at halftime so not to watch Brady pick us apart. I saw Jerry Jones in his box I think twice, Art Blank on the field, I’m sure other owners may have been shown for a cameo-when was the last time Ross was shown? It starts at the TOP! He’s an absentee owner and this team is not, repeat, is not his priority. It’s a charm on his billionaire mantle. When the Dolphins get a new owner, then we should see a difference. Until then, keep the motion sickness bag close by. By far the most pathetic owner in the NFL today. And we got’em.

They’ve shown Ross a few times this year, usually sitting with Dan Marino up in the the luxury boxes. Ross has proven to be slow to pull the trigger on his executives, and this has ruined the Dolphins for years. He was far too slow to purge Philbin and even worse when it came to Gase.
This time around, I think it’s Chris Grier. Flores doesn’t seem to have the leadership skills that a head coach needs, nor are his decisions correct many times. BUT…even though Flores is inexperienced, he is playing with the hand that Grier gave him. We still have 3 first-round picks coming up in the next 2 drafts, and it is imperative that Ross does not allow Grier anywhere near that draft.

You’re right, but Ross doesn’t view things that way. He doesn’t want to be seen as a bad guy who fires people. He gave extensions to both Philbin and Gase before realizing his own errors.
He needs to stop giving audition jobs to first-time head coaches who were past coordinators.
      He just doesn’t understand that.

      1. Well, about this Sunday’s game, I’ll reserve comments about the Dolphins offensive play because injuries can be a big factor for that loss. But defensively, the Dolphins looked (how can I say it mildly) “putrid.” I mean, the miss tackles are just horrendous! I don’t know about the rest of you guys but concerning this season, I’m about ready to throw in the towel.

        1. When asked what he looks for when drafting defensive players, Bill Belichek answered “Guys that can tackle. All the other skills are worthless if they can’t tackle.” Maybe that’s where Grier needs to start.

Grier starts at speed. He watches how fast Jaelen Waddle can run past overmatched SEC bums. Then he watches how fast Noah Inactive can close on a ball that is lofted up in the air by sub-par QBs. Speed kills, they say, but only when you’re smart enough to design a game plan to take advantage of it.

  5. I still will never forgive Grier for skipping over Sewell. We needed o line. I like Waddle but Sewell was the best available and a position of need.

    1. I said it once and I’ll say it again.. the Dolphins had an “embarrassment of draft riches.”

  6. I want Mike Quinn from Dallas. He has their defense as one of the best and he has proven countless times that he can put a good defense on the field. He has good success in Atlanta. If you get him to get a proven Offensive coordinator, he might be a good option. This is only if Ross pulls his head out and rids us of the current catastophie.

Dan Quinn, yes. Cowboys D is solid, plus Quinn created those great Seahawk defenses. BUT…he was also handed a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl as head coach of the Falcons. And we all know what happened.
Still, a guy with head coaching experience is far better than just picking and choosing your friends like Flores does when he needs coordinators.

      1. But he played in the SuperBowl. And hopefully he has learned from past mistakes. However, over and over success with his defenses.

        1. Author

And don’t forget, we already had Dan Quinn as our D-line coach in the Nick Saban era. Would be great to have him back…

Remember a few weeks ago, when Jaelan Phillips touched Carson Wentz in the numbers, and the ref inexplicably called a facemask? It’s a perfect example of Flores/Ross/Dolphins not saying a word. This should be national news and brought up every day for the past two weeks. No, of course the NFL will not go back in time and give us a win. But the Dolphins must at least question that bogus call that contributed to a loss. Flores isn’t a fighter. He hasn’t once brought it up.

    1. It might be more than just his lack of fight. He might be dejected and may be giving up. He has absolutely zero answers and he knows it. For someone with so much swagger a year ago to be beaten thoroughly in every aspect must be hitting him hard.

  8. Soooo, why isn’t this team able to make the pitch and land good solid coaches like the one mentioned above? Because the Dolphins aren’t getting good enough players to develop them? or the management stinks? The pay not in line with other teams so that stinks as well? The weather a factor? What is the problem and how does it get fixed? I ask myself why I continue to have hope each season only to get 5 or 6 games in and can see what the season is looking like. I don’t care what anyone can say, it starts at the top!

I know Jim Caldwell is a highly respected coach who came in to run our offense. He met Flores for a week or so and then decided to leave. Don’t know why. He was one of the few good coordinators we targeted. Other than him, Flores and Gase just targeted their buddies. I’m waiting for the day we get a recognizable name. I want to say, “Holy cow, we just got _____ to run our offense” instead of having to google what Division-4 school our guys coached at.
