Yes, we can win.
I have restrained my enthusiasm and any hope for a playoff run to this point, knowing that this Titan game was coming up.
But now that this game is upon us, I have studied and come up with the ways the Dolphins can win. Needless to say, a win versus Tennessee puts us in an even better position for a playoff appearance.

While our defense has been playing great for over a month now, admittedly they have been playing against very poor offensive teams. The Saints had a fourth string quarterback, the Jets have no running game, the Panthers were in disarray. Yes, I give them credit for stopping those teams, but we have to realistically understand that Tennessee has better weapons, even without Derrick Henry.

The first key to this game is which Ryan Tannehill will show up.  We all remember his toughness and some great plays he made for the Dolphins, but we also remember his mistakes. His pocket presence has improved, but the way the Dolphins have rushed the passer lately, even experienced quarterbacks can’t get the ball out in time. That’s what we hope to see from Tannehill again. We don’t have to dive into his entire Dolphin  history, so let’s just summarize this by saying we hope he has a bad game, and not an all pro game. Both of those are possible, so we hope he has an off day.

I can see the Titans scoring 27 points on us. Even with a good defense, we can’t expect to keep holding teams to 20 and under.  So then, the main key for me, is our offense needs to step it up. In New Orleans, the offense only scored 13 points, and the Saints had a lot of defensive injuries.  13 will not cut it vs.  Tennessee.
I think the good news is that our offense is due for a very big game. That is certainly not a given, and just because they haven’t scored a ton of points in the last month doesn’t mean they will automatically score a ton this time around. But I really feel we are due for 35 or more points.
During the Saints game, on our live chat, I kept pointing out how many times we had third and short. When we have second and six, we always seem to gain 5 yards. When we have second and five, we gain 4 yards. I think with a little more effort and a few different tweaks to the playcalling, those drives can be kept alive without us always having to pick up third-down conversions.

I might be in the minority, but I am not one to say that the Dolphins must throw it downfield more often. We have won seven weeks in a row with dinks and dunks and short little passes as the featured aspect of our game plan. There is zero reason to tamper with success. Let the Titans worry about stopping short passes to Waddle. If they take him out of the game, then somebody else will be open. Parker and Gesicki have been nonexistent for a couple of weeks, and they are due. However, I would not force the ball to them unless  and only unless  the Titans are zoning in on Waddle.   In other words, don’t feel obliged to include Parker and others in the game plan, unless the situation warrants it. For over a decade, the Dolphins have fallen victim to our opponents when they throw short little crossing patterns, and now it is finally our turn to do the same. And the results have been outstanding. Just keep it up.

By picking up a few more first downs here and there, and keeping drives alive, our points will increase. Playing inconsistent football, and going four or five drives at a time without scoring, must be eliminated. I just have a feeling that this is a week it might come together on offense

  1. Didn’t the saints defense shut Tom Brady out? I admit maybe saints defense got fatigued and gave up because they knew book wouldn’t do anything. It is still worth mentioning though. Also, it seemed like the defense had the momentum and had tua on third and 9 until that bomb to hollins. I mention all this because I agree with you hopefully it was a good showing by the offense not bad because of the saints defense shutting Brady out what do you rginkt?

    1. Ys, the saints shut out Brady. That was the game of the year for the saints. They played all out and wanted that game badly. I think we caught them in a letdown the following week.

  2. Howard needs to get a pick 6 in this game and Tua needs to show why he’s better than Trannyhill.

  3. We will get 5 sacks and 2 int on THill. Titans have given up a lot of sacks this year and when they turn the ball over they dont win. 24-17 Fins

  4. I am good with the dinks and dunks, this is within Tua’s and OL’s current capabilities

This is what i see: Titans have trouble scoring without Henry: here are their point totals for the last 5 games: 20,13,20,13,13

So lets hope Titans are due for another 13 pointer, right?

    1. Yes, we hope for that. Although, even if we hold them to 13, our offense is certainly capable of playing unspectacularly and only get us 9 or 10. We need our D to score again!
