In a throwback to those atrocious Sundays in the late 80s and 90s, the olphins D simply did not show up.   None of the three aspects were there.    The line couldn’t stop the rush, and the linebackers–typically an insurance policy so that a 5-yard rush doesn’t turn into 10–instead turned it into 70.  And the DBs gave up everything thrown their way.

The Line, the Backers, the DBs.   They all get a big fat F.

I don’t want to hear anything about how good the Lions are.   Don’t want to hear about some rookie runner named Kerryon being elite.    No, there was none of that.   These were a bunch of bums.   Matthew Stafford’s been in the league a long time, and he has zero accomplishments.  He’s not that good, until he played us.  How about the 4th-string tight ends who ate us up?   Golden Tate is 450 years old, and he made it look easy also.  This was sadly embarrassing or embarrassingly sad.  There is no excuse.    Not one guy played well.

A few things to add insult to injury.   Albert Wilson got hurt on a play that was oh so close to being a TD.   He got tackled from behind on a lucky shoestring tackle or he was gone.   Someone, while being tackled by one of his opponent’s finger tips, he’s injured.

Also, as I mentioned this week, we suffer our worst injuries on the gamer before our annual Thursday game.   Same thing every year.

And to further hurt the cause, the Bears blew a huge 10-point lead against the Patriots.  They handed New England 14 free gift points on special teams.  And now the Patriots get a long week.   They don’t play again until Monday Night Football.   They get 8 days to rest up, while we get 3.     Oh, the Patriots play the Bills next.   It’s already 24-0.

  1. ADMIN, what I would like to know is, what was that garbage that Gase was calling in the last seconds right before halftime?

    1. Author

I think he was being careful. We weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard !

      1. Careful? Since the Dolphins weren’t “exactly lighting up the scoreboard,” what would be the reason for being careful? Heck, the Dolphins had about what, a minute and 5 seconds left before halftime to try and get at least in field goal range and Gase decided he’ll take that time to get conservative? I mean I don’t think it would’ve hurt to at least try one pass longer than five yards for God’s sake! It weren’t like he was protecting a lead. It Looked like he resorted back to his pathetic play calling again and the boo’s from the crowd let him know how they felt about that in those last seconds before halftime.

  2. Albert Wilson’s agent implied he is out for the year

    1. Author

Yeah, the team isn’t saying a word, but the agent said he done. (According to the Herald)

  3. The hits just keep on comin’. This is a crap team, period. With or w/o injuries.

  4. We’re 1-7 against the OilerTexans. Now this team knows what it takes to win like Marino did during his career-40 points per game.

      1. Nope, sold my ticket 2 weeks ago. Lost $20 on the buy & sell transaction due to fees.

  5. How can the defense be that out of position and the coaches don’t adjust to it? I’ll answer my own question…. our coaches have no talent. They are all coaching out of position and with the only exception being the special teams coach none of these coaches came from winning orginazations. So we have this debacle which is the third embarrassment in six games. What a Joke. I’m sure at some point Ross will fly down for an hour and a half and tell us how much faith he has in tannenbum and Gase and probably extend then for ten years

    1. It’s a business for him. If he actually was a fan of his own team,it would be different. He listens to the worst Back Office in football year after year and all they and he do is give 3-4 year auditions for head coaches and coordinators.

  6. Losing Wilson would be brutal he was having such a great year feel bad for him. Opportunity for some others but it still stinks…

  7. The lions did what they wanted when they wanted and how they wanted to. It was one of the worst defensive performances I’ve seen from an NFL team this year. This wasn’t against the chiefs or the rams. This was the detriot lions. A team with a decent offense and decent playmakers, but not great but any means. Miami made Stafford look like Brady and Johnson look like prime Adrian Peterson. Where was Kiko, where was Baker and McMillian. They were somehow out of place all game long. Minka Jones and Howard didn’t do shit, 2 lions fumbles neither Miami was able to recover. Brock made some plays he deserves to keep playing. It doesn’t matter who was QB today though, with a defense like that Joe Montana would of lost today.

  8. It was so VERY obvious that lions HC Patricia – really studied and formulated his game plan largely on what was already on tape – namely – how the pats easily dismantled the fins, especially getting their linemen downfield and into the second level and destroying the fins rookie LB’s – all game long, thus the huge rushing day they had.
For the most part, the talent on all nfl teams are roughly the same – it’s the superior coaching and game plans that decide the difference.

BTW – Gase also had available to him a blueprint on how to beat the lions – the jets gave that out to the whole nfl – on the first Monday night game this season. But knowing Gase – and his previous traits – there’s no doubt that he gave that game tape very little consideration, if any.

2 contrasting coaching styles : and the results – show and speak for themselves ……..

I agree fully. The prep work that other coaches do is very beneficial against us. I’ve said this before and it’s worth repeating: For our opening series on offense, we have to practice those plays a thousand times a week. Maybe two thousand. It is absolutely unacceptable for Adam Gase to have a full week of preparation, plus a huge momentum surge from the Bears game, plus home field advantage etc etc etc….. He had all of that in his favor, and we open the game with a 1-yard dive up the middle. THAT was the best way to start the game? The best way to keep the Lions off balance? The BEST you could come up with to start our game on a high note?
I don’t mind starting the game with a run…BUT…make it a run that is a bread-and-butter play that is certain to get us 5 or 6 yards. I know this from other coaches. When they game plan ahead of time, they tell the offense the first few plays of the game, and they work on that all week long. All 11 men know what play is coming and they have a week to prepare themselves to run it. I get no such feeling from Gase.
But this is a just a side distraction; I’m not blaming Gase for the way the defense played.

  9. I just dread what Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans are going to do to Dolphins Thursday. If the Dolphins doesn’t do anything about their run defense (ranked 29th) they’re going to get embarrassed on Thursday night football. ADMIN said – Let’s Be Positive About Adam Gase for a Change…… Nahhh!!! Kicking players to the curb doesn’t impress me and getting lucky when “Turn Over Tanny” got hurt was basically a blessing, not a much needed and long awaited quarterback coaching decision.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, “Gase better really show something this season if I’m going to change my mind about him.”

I am NOT one to make excuses for Gase, but these injuries would make even an optimist get a little depressed. They are a real, legitimate excuse for some of our ailments as a team. Personally, I’m just hoping that the defensive play reached its low-point. We simply cant get any worse than allowing the opponent to score on every single drive but one. Can we?
Now we’re even more banged up, mostly on offense, and we gotta get on a plane in 36 hours. All because of a freaky-lucky tackle on Albert Wilson

      1. Letting a rookie running back rack up 158 yards on your defense doesn’t have anything to do with injuries. Gase demands this-an-that from his players but what is he demanding when it comes to the coaches under him? Like BRIAN wrote, “where has Matt Burke ever been successful as a Defensive Cordinator?” We saw no defensive adjustments to stop the Lions running attack by a rookie running back at all. In my opinion, that has nothing to do with players injuries (which is mostly on the offense) but it definitely speaks volumes about your coaching staff.

        1. Author

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not blaming injuries for the defensive lapses yesterday. It’s the 2nd game out of 7 where the D didn’t show up at all. The big difference yesterday was NO big plays on D. No turnovers when we needed it most. Even in the Pats blowout, we picked Brady twice. Yesterday was an abysmal performance, but it’s their first truly nothing-positive-to-say game.
Also, I agreed with Brian since day one. You ever look at the sidelines on some teams, and you see faces you recognize. Wade Phillips. Mike Smith. Jim Schwartz. These are experienced former head coaches who swallowed their pride and accepted coordinator jobs. As it should be. Gase needs to hire overqualified guys to run his departments, not up-and-coming favors he grants to a bunch of nobodies. Even yesterday I noticed Paul Pasqualoni on Detroit’s sidelines. A much much better option than Matt Burke.

  10. Obviously the coaching needs improvement but the players have to make plays. None of the linebackers or linemen were able to shed blocks yesterday, we hate when Gase calls runs up the middle all the time but that’s what the lions did to miami over and over again. I’m not defending the coaching but you can just make excuses for players being bad. Kiko got burned by a 4th string tight end over and over yesterday. If you can’t ask your so called best linebacker to cover a 4th string tight end you might have more of a talent issue than a coaching one.

    1. Author

Yep. i think it stems from Fat Patricia’s familiarity with the base D Miami has used for years. He didn’t try to reinvent the wheel. He simply told his coordinators: “They cannot cover a tight end. Ever. Game plan this week is to throw to tight ends a lot.”

      1. Author

I saw one play where, in the middle of the play (NOT pre-snap but as the play was occurring), Raekwon was screaming and pointing at Jerome Baker. Baker was in the wrong spot as the play developed, and Raekwon was desperately trying to get him to move. Unfortunately, because Baker was out of position and because Raekwon was pointing at Baker and not watching the play unfold, they both missed the ball carrier and it went for a first down.

        1. Yea it was like that all day. There was another play I believe in the 4th quarter where Reshad Jones prolly our best defensive player wasn’t even lined up on the right side of the field. Right before the play him and someone I can’t remember who were yelling at each other and eventually ran across the whole field switching sides. Matt Stafford watched them do it waited for them to get ready than snapped it. It was almost like he felt bad for Miami’s defense at that point.

    2. Well, what do you expect? The Dolphins shipped off Kong Suh, shipped off Phillips, shipped off Landry. I said this before, “Gase expects to cut and paste his way to glory.” When an organization does that, it’s supposed to be an indication that the team has top notch coaches and able players for such occasions. Blame blame blame!!!.. I’m tired of excuses. If it wasn’t for that missed field goal, the Bears would’ve won that game and we’re staring at just three wins. Right now, the Dolphins are in serious trouble, and I really don’t have faith that they have the coaches to get them out of it.
