With the Dolphins holding a comfortable 17-3 lead late in the third quarter, Miami faced a third and one. Before we get into the horrible, loss-causing play that Gase called next, we have to back up .

Frank Gore was blowing holes the through Bengals on every carry. No, he wasn’t busting 30-yarders at will. But he was doing something more effective: He was breaking their backs with 5 or 6 yards at a time. It was gorgeous to behold. On second-and-five, Gore burst up the middle and got tripped up just shy of the first down, which brought up 3rd and a foot.
Third and a foot, and Frank Gore was not stoppable. We needed 12 inches.
But Adam Gase tried for 70 yards.
I have long lamented that a simple QB sneak is not in Gase’s playbook, and so I stopped shouting “QB Keeper” at my screen. We know that Gase refuses to run the most basic play in NFL history. Why? Because he is a misguided arrogant know-it-all.
You know who else knows that Gase won’t ever call a QB sneak? The defense. Defenses know that Gase will always always pass the ball on third and short. Always. It doesn’t matter to Gase that we had a 14-point lead.
He is a genius, remember, so he thought a risky long bomb pass play would be easier to achieve than asking Tannehill to lunge forward a foot.
He thought a risky long bomb pass play behind a makeshift offensive line consisting of 4th-string practice squadders would be easier to achieve than asking Frank Gore to pop a yard ahead.
So with Gore running roughshod on the Bengals, Gase ignored him. He instead called some convoluted play with extra motion, rollouts, fakes and misdirection, and it yielded absolutely nothing.
Week after week after week, we’re forced to endure Adam Gase calling pass plays on every single 3rd-and-short. It’s infuriating and it rarely works. To make matters worse, he calls for 5-WR formations, where the D doesn’t even have to worry about a handoff at all. Gase tips his hand on these plays, then blames the players when the defense has a field day against his plays.
If you MUST call a pass play in that situation, then how about a 2-yard slant to Amendola? Perhaps Gase didn’t know this, but Danny made an entire career catching quick slant passes. He’s done it a few times.
Some people will mistakenly blame our defense for this loss. They will be more justified to blame Ryan Tannehill, but it’s not his fault either. Stupid penalties didn’t help. But no, this loss is Gase’s signature loss moment. Even an oblivious and hands-off owner like Stephen Ross needs to immediately take notice. His coach is simply not the Genius Offensive Guru that people have called him. He’s just a bad, bad coach.
Now prepare yourselves for Gase’s excuses.
How can Gase look his team in the eye and explain why he called that awful, complex, unsuccessful play at a time when it just wasn’t needed? I guess Adam Gase simply didn’t notice Frank Gore bursting through holes all day.
Glad to see out recent first-round draft picks DeVante Parker and Charles Harris playing so well today.

I’ve also been saying it for weeks now, Gase refuses to run on 3rd and 1. I don’t have any words for the stubbornness. It’s uncanny.
The stubborn arrogance will only get worse tomorrow when we have to listen to him justify it. He is a smug prick, and I guarantee he’ll say, “It was the right call based on what the defense presented.”
Gase looks like an idiot as a head coach so far so prove me wrong.
You’ve been saying it for weeks and the site Admin has said it for three years!
I can’t believe you guys blew that. Your coach seems to believe all the hype they said about him
I’m done with Tannehill as well. No defending the play calling it’s infuriating. But Tannehill just isn’t a good quarterback IMO. The only way I can put it is with a guy like a Phillip rivers he might make a couple of bad mistakes, but his team is never ou of the game because he is a great quarterback. With Tannehill even if he makes a couple of great plays you just know he is going to find a way to fuck up because all players over time regress to whatever there average is. Tannehills average has proved to be worse than a good starting QBs.
Amen…. time to go out and find the solution but guys this is the Dolphins who have spent probably more money and brought in more guys to find the solution on the OL and have screwed that up for a decade. We may be doomed
Yep…All of that Suh money spent to pay guys who get to sit home with their nurses.
Also I think Adam Gase is just a more arrogant Joe Philbin.
I’ve said all along Gase is just as bad as Philbin…nobody believed me or that it was even possible.
Actually Jimbo we may end up owing Philbin an apology!
If you are going to take a shot like that you should have already decided to go for it on 4th down. If not run the damn ball I’ve screamed it for years. Very frustrating.
We all know Tanny isn’t the best but he’s not the worst. Horrific bad luck on the pick six he probably should have taken the sack but he was trying to do something positive. Hard when your oline is in shambles. On the last play his olineman actually pushed the DE closer to him thanks for the help idiot. If these injuries don’t stop it’s over anyway it’s getting ridiculous. They need at least three oline in the next draft…
With this staff making the picks, they better dedicate the whole draft to the oline. Grier has been on this team helping make picks since 2007. If they miss the playoffs, hopefully Ross will sell or clean house.
This could be true unfortunately. Oline has been the most difficult part of the team to fix. Although unless this Falk kid is any good they need to find a young QB to groom as well…
the last draft in April was our best in 25 years. Minkah and Baker are out-performing expectations. The kicker Sanders has worked out so far so good. The TEs suck, but I’m starting to believe that is Gase’s fault.
How can Gase be handed a 6 ft 8 TE with great hands and then throw to him 2 or 3 times per month?
The injuries on the O-line are indeed devastating. But the worst part is that now Gase has his weekly excuses ready to go. He will blame the line.
This isn’t about the whole game or a scheme or a preparedness. This loss is strictly because GASE ignored the FACT that his RBs were doing well. We needed to gain a foot to ice this win, and instead he called a pass play that had no chance.
I’m not gonna defend Tannehill’s god-awful turnovers either. But I will say that he shouldn’t have been put in the position to have to score in the 4th quarter.
Gase called that ridiculously complicated 3rd-down play when we needed to lunge forward a foot. He bears all this blame.
True but if I remember correctly Tannehill could of easily ran for that first down instead of throwing deep into coverage
No, not really. Which is why I keep harping on that play. There was a crowd of a few Bengals in front of him. That play was doomed.
The defenders were in position because the play called for Wilson to run that way. If Gase ran Wilson to the opposite side, Tanny can walk to a first down. But Gase’s own design caused traffic.
Anybody interested in my Dolphins/Texans ticket on Thursday/10-25? Sec 631 Row K Seat 5. I’m to pissed right now to even comment and I’m not going to Houston to see them lose.
Remember back in April when the schedule was released and I said 5 wins, maybe 6 if we catch a break. My friends were giving me crap after we won the 1st 3 games. I said 5,maybe 6 still. Reality to what a crap team we are. I stick be 5-6 even though we started with 3 wins.
Ross won’t do a damn thing about Gase because he doesn’t care,he just throws money at this team when the Back Office asks for it. Also, firing Gase would be an admission the he made YET ANOTHER mistake with this Back Office by trusting them I’m finished until I cool down.
too,not to pissed
1 more thing. Do we know if Trannyfcuk has EVER called an audible? EVER?
Does he know how? Does he have permission?
I re-watched the 3rd-and-1 play, and you can see Kenny Stills signalling to Tannehill behind his back. I imagine the signal was to let him know I have one-on-one, and I can beat this loser.
Instead, Tannehill called some kind of audible, and made Stills move about 5 yards closer in.
Then they snapped it. Still did indeed have one-on-one coverage deep, but Tanny underthrew the ball awfully. Such a bad bad throw on a bad bad play call.
Teams know that they won’t sneak or run on 3-1 so they’re ready for the pass. Gase only outsmarted himself. Raiders did the same thing yesterday super bowl repeat you just have to laugh at these coaches…
What about the bone headed penalty by McDonald I think, when he kept the Bengals drive alive by crushing the receiver when the ball was 20 yards above his head!!! They scored after that I believe.
I saw a similar play in Cleveland yesterday, and the Ravens leveled Jarvis Landry. Refs huddled and said ball was not catchable, so NO FLAG.
I just don’t get it.
Yeah that was ridiculous. Certain teams like the browns, Fins, etc…never get calls meanwhile patsies get them all so their fans have no reason to complain. Ridiculous…
FIRE ADAM GASE NOW !!!!!!!!
HE IS A COMPLETE FUCKTARD
Gase is a genius. He gets paid by Ross for doing a shitty job week in week out. He is consistent. Fire Matt Burke mid season? Not here… We keep losers… Any place else
these guys are canned… Not in Miami…
