Let’s open this up for a discussion on who we like as our next head coach.

After 3 failed coordinators, I am all in on a coach with HEAD coaching experience. I said that before hiring Flores, Philbin, and Gase.   Ross must stop giving promotions to guys whose own teams never promoted them.

Brian Daboll is intriguing, and his connection to Tua (BD was Tua’s coordinator at Alabama) sounds good, but bringing in a coach specifically to work with a QB has failed us recently.  Cam Cameron could not help the juggernaut of Cleo Lemon and John Beck, nor could Adam Gase or Joey Philbin help Tannehill they way that Mike Vrabel has.  What if Tua gets hurt, and we need Brian Daboll to become Jacoby Brissett’s guru?   No…bringing in a head coach to address one specific position is unwise.

I like Doug Pederson or Dan Quinn.  DP is unemployed right now and DQ is in the playoffs this weekend.  I’ll be keeping my eyes on the Cowboy defense.  Both of these men are former head coaches.  Both led their teams to a Super Bowl.   Pederson won with the Eagles.   Quinn lost with the Falcons.   The last time the Dolphins hired a head coach who lost a previous Super Bowl was a young man named Don Shula.  I have no problem hiring a guy who came so close.  Imagine that fire inside of him to get back.

Leslie Frazier, Todd Bowles, Byron Leftwich, and Raheem Morris have their names in the mix too.  All but Leftwich have been head coaches before, so there’s the experience I look for.

49ers OC Mike McDaniel and Cowboy OC Kellen Moore are new names into the mix, but I think they’re too young and inexperienced, and this goes back to my initial point of Ross promoting guys to the top job when they simply aren’t ready to lead.  McDaniel, for example, like Flores and Philbin, had coordinator roles at their previous teams but didn’t call the plays.   When a coordinator doesn’t call plays, he has no experience with in-game decision making, and that is vital this time around.

The big issue weighing over most of this is who in their right mind WANTS this job?  Ross’s reputation is mud right about now, so he’ll have to give someone a ton of power or a ton of money to come here.  Power is off the table, so that means money.  He better be prepared to cough it up.

WHO DO YOU GUYS WANT?

  1. A lot of people might think I’m crazy but I would like to give Todd bowles another chance. He almost won us all three games when he took over as head coach the last three game when sporano was fired. Dolphins were his first choice.I think unlike gase he is humble enough to learn to from his coaching experience. I know he did poorly with the jets but it is the jets.If anything he should get credit for getting them 10 wins the first year. Don’t think any coach of them will get that close for years to come.I think we would be pleasantly surprised with bowles as coach.

I’m definitely not opposed to that. He will have a lot more talent here than the NY Jets gave him. Geno Smith was a disaster. Poor Bowles.
He certainly does seem humble, and his defenses are typically pretty good. I have not seen his name on the official list of who we are interviewing.
I did read that we are interviewing the Rams’ assistant running back coach. Why oh why?

  2. Smith was gone before Bowles, but Darnold is still a disaster, lol. Yup, we definitely have enough talent that I think he would be good here. I personally think to you can build a team around tua and see results like the Titans and tannehill and I think he is smart enough to see that. Only the dolphins would interview the Rams assistant running back coach. I’m sure they will hire whoever all the fans would agree for them not to.

“I’m sure they will hire whoever all the fans would agree for them not to.” Sad but true.
      LOL

      1. Watch Joe Philbin gets rehired lol. Nothing would surprise me.

          1. I can just see Ross: “Well, we always believed in Joe Philbin and he is the very best offensive mind out there. I thought it was best for this team to bring Joe back and give him another chance.

            1. Noooooooo! Noooooooooo! Perish the thought!!! That is the worse possible! But does sound like something Ross would think is a good idea for this team!!!

    2. Sorry guys we need an offensive minded coach. Bowles for DC sure but OC no way. Harbaugh, Pederson, even Daboll as he’s been around forever would calm this team down. Find an upstart OC and keep Boyers done.

  3. Daboll killing it with the game plan tonight destroying the belicheats. Have to be ok with him. Still would like an offensive vet HC though.

Funny the billion dollar NFL still can’t get a review right completely F’d up the raiders game. Can’t hear a whistle? The shitass CFL would have gotten that right with a 30 K budget….embarrassing.

    1. I came in late to the raiders game. What happened with the whistle?

      1. You’ll see it on the highlights worst review in a while. Burrow was rolling right almost out of bounds then threw it for a TD. Ref blew the whistle in the air some raiders stopped and it went for a TD. Should have been a replayed down due to arrant whistle but they let it stand. May have cost raiders another playoff game. Tuck rule X 2.

        1. What is even worse is that the referee crew lied and said the whistle wasn’t blown until the pass was caught. The most critical trait of a referee? Integrity, which is totally lacking with this crew. Admit you made a mistake, and while people will still be upset, they’ll move on. Lie, and you should be fired.

          1. I heard that crew won’t be reffing another game in the playoffs. You are right integrity is key especially with betting involved although it doesn’t seem to matter with the patsies…lie, cheat, steal is all good with them!

  4. I see the bills playing we are the champions after one playoff win in wildcard weekend. I see why Admin hates them but it was still satisfying to see fat ass belicheat walk off the field freezing….F U patsies! This is the start of their decline.

Now we need the Fins to make the right decisions and take on the bills.

    1. The Fins are clearly the 2nd best team in the division, and need to move some moves to take on the Bills. The Patriots have been exposed…..one lucky winning streak in mid-season masked what is a very average team.

      1. Yeah the pats gave up 80 points the past two games, and Mac Jones seems like a confused rookie when his running game isn’t working for him and he has to pass

  5. I think BOTH Cowboy coordinators’ chances at getting a head coaching gig took a major blow yesterday. Although numerous drops by the WRs didn’t help. The defense looked atrocious. Maybe Dan Quinn didn’t know that the 49ers have a one-man passing game. Cover Kittle, and you win. Period.

    1. Yes it was a bizarre call but if Dak would have slid sooner and passed the ball to the ref they would have had a shot. Although I may have taken two shots to the endzone myself as you never know they weren’t that far away. Niners were worried about the sidelines may have actually been had on a TD throw.

I also didn’t mind the catch and pitch similar to what the Fins did in the miracle play. They moved up the field fast but ultimately it falls on the OC to have these guys prepared for this. Unless Dak is just dumb you can’t teach stupid…

    1. Who knows about any of this but if true that’s horrible. Could be a smokescreen from Grier but some reports are saying that he would dictate who he wanted and Grier did his best to accommodate him. Some of those FA signings or draft picks could be on Flo although Grier should have overrided some of that stuff. Maybe he didn’t???

  6. What if the Patriots fire Belichick. Do we want him?

    1. They won’t fire belicheat but either way I don’t want that stench on the franchise it was bad enough going to them for Flo. I came around as he didn’t seem to follow that path but in the end should have went elsewhere. Now that some teams are out will be interesting to see if they jump on anyone or wait it out.

Apparently Harbaugh is showing interest to get back to the NFL now. You would think Ross would offer him the job instead of letting him go elsewhere. Most of the pieces are there so you would think he’d like the opportunity in Miami.

  7. Catching up on the news, I have been out of the sports news loop, so just found out this evening that Flores is gone. WTF! He had his shortcomings, but he was one of the few bright spots on this dysfunctional organization

There seem to be two competing narratives centered around QB disagreement:

1)Flores wanted Deshawn, but Ross is in love with Tua
    *or*
    2) Ross wanted DeShawn and Flores wanted to stick with Tua

Which one do y’all think is true? I am guessing the former.

    1. It is the former. Flores hates Tua so Grier and Ross showed him the door.

Wow, you really were out of the loop. Welcome back. I think we were all shocked. According to most reports, Jimbo was right. Some internal disagreements angered Ross, who fired his head coach “to improve collaboration.” His words. Ross fired a competent coach on the rise instead of sitting down with all the parties to work something out.

      1. “to improve collaboration” is manager/administrator speak for consensus. Managers are consensus beings, and most of the time, the consensus achieved is wrong.

So yeah, IMO, looks like the managers (Grier, etc.) collaborated to force out Flores, because he did not agree with consensus

Unfortunately, i am doubtful a championship quality team can be built around management consensus 🙁
