First, the HIGHS:

The defense played well.   Yes, you read that right, and I’m sorry if you disagree.   The defense gave up only ONE touchdown to the Bills and their pathetic offense.  The Bills won the field-possession battles all day long, and our D held them to field goals.

Clueless Joey P refuses to adjust his offensive game plan despite getting destroyed.

A great job, despite the 29 points.   The D simply couldn’t catch its breath with the way our O was playing.

Jarvis Landry.   He’s catching the ball in traffic and is becoming reliable.   We need more of this, but so far his receiving is off to a good start.

Caleb Sturgis.  He was a question mark all pre-season, but he’s done well the last few weeks.   His kickoffs are getting into the endzone.

And now the LOWS.   Where do we start?

Joe Philbin.  Joey had no answers whatsoever for anything Buffalo did.  Our offense couldn’t move the ball (Knowshon would not have made a difference because the Bills D-line manhandled us all day, yet Joey refused to change anything). Coach, instead of sending 4 guys into pass patterns, why not send 2 and leave 2 blockers back.   EVERY team except Miami has a maximum-protection package.

Bill Lazor.  In the 4th quarter when the Dolphins faced a 4th-and-inches, with the game on the line, Lazor called a play right out of the Mike Sherman playbook.  As soon as Tannehill lined up in the shotgun, I knew we were doomed.  And sure enough…   When you need to advance the ball a mere 20 inches, you do NOT line up your QB 7 yards in the backfield.  You saw the result.   Brian Hartline got destroyed trying to block his man, and Tannehill got sacked.  Seriously, watch how awful Hartline did on that play.  Game over.   The play was bad for so many reasons.  The formation was bad.  Hartline’s block was atrocious.   Seriously, watch how awful Hartline did on that play.   There was no outlet receiver (which we ended up needing) just in case Tannehill faced pressure.  It was doomed from the start.

Special Teams.  Boy, that blocked punt sucked the life out of the team and was the worst play of the game.  It seemed.  Until the same special teams unit gave up the TD to Spiller.  Awful awful awful.   Which means Philbin will defend them tomorrow.  And  Jarvis Landry’s fumble.  Awful.  Watch.

Jarvis Landry.   Yes, I listed him as a positive for his receiving, but as a primary kick and punt returner, he has been a failure so far.  Nothing positive whatsoever.

Joe Philbin.  At the 2-minute warning, we were deep in our own territory.  I don’t blame Philbin for not using his timeouts there and then.  BUT…then we got a first down.   Then another.  THAT is when Philbin should have used his timeouts.   We put a rally together, and somehow, the offense was finally working.  Use the timeouts to take advantage of this.  As it turned out, we ended up around our own 45-yard line but we had no time left.   Imagine if we had the ball at the 45 with 1:30 or 1:05 on the clock.   THAT is what should have happened.  But because of Clueless Joey Philbin, we got there with no time left.

Bill Lazor.  Can we please run a hurry up? A pitchout?

The refs.  Brandon Gibson had a touchdown taken away form him because the refs simply did not pay attention.  Gibson made a diving catch and nobody touched him.  He correctly ran in to the endzone, but the old men in stripes said he was down by invisible contact.

Ryan Tannehill.   Second week in a row he had Mike Wallace for an easy TD if he just threw the ball to Wallace’s left.  Instead, he threw it short and right and got 2 incompletes.  It is seriously time to give Matt Moore a look.  Last time Moore was given charge of our offense, he was voted team MVP.  Period.

The refs.  And on that play where the Bills’ big, slow tight end ran out of bounds, the refs overturned a call and gave him the catch.  Incorrect.   His toes were indeed in bounds when the ball first touches his fingertips.   But that doesn’t count.  By the time he CAUGHT the ball, according to the NFL’s definition of “caught,” he was clearly out of bounds.    I don’t know why, but the Bills got the home field ref calls all day long.

Lamar Miller.   He’s just not good enough to be in the NFL.   Those dropped passes killed THREE separate drives.

Remember, the Bills have one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and they battered us.   It’s gonna be a long, long season.

FinFan, we welcome all comments. But please tell us why we are stupid?

      1. Hmmm, that pitiful offense seemed to have their way all afternoon, providing for 7 drives of scoring. Now if you said in the red zone…i would agree.

        1. 7 drives and only one touchdown. Not too good for Buffalo.

    2. DolphinsTruth is like the only blog that makes honest criticisms. So sick of the Miami writers sugar coating everything. FinFan must have came here to read about how awesome Lamar Miller.

      1. The local sports media is only giving the suckup, fool fans what they wanna hear. Many of these tools would cut their jugular before they’d admit this team’s got no shot and has been jerking the fans off for 4 decades. Even the great Marino never got the respect he deserved in the form of a well balanced team. That’s why he went to 1 SB, got wooped by a better SF team and never went again.

    3. This is the most idiotic write-up I’ve ever seen. It appears to be written by a 12 year old homer who’s all pissed off his home-town heroes just got destroyed. The Bills are a FAR superior team to your Dolphins, and it showed AGAIN. The Bills offense is not one of “the worst” in the NFL, and is clearly far better than the Finns offense. Moreno is a mediocre RB to begin with. With him out you have who? Mike Wallace? That’s the best you have on offense? That’s pathetic. Maybe you could use Spiller. Or Fred Jackson. Or Bryce Brown, Or Sammy Watkins, Or Mike Williams. Or Goodwin. Hell, you could use Anthony Dixon or Robert Woods. The Bills have so much more talent it’s ridiculous. And the defenses?? It’s men vs boys. You want to see an awesome D-Line, you saw the best in the NFL yesterday. Get your stupid commentary off the web fool. This is no analysis. This is just a column full of childish, whiny, mis-guided opinions by a bitter Fins fan. Bills still dominating the Fish for 25 years strong! GO BILLS!

      1. How many Super Bowls in a row did the Bills lose again? Two? Or was it three?

      2. ” Or Fred Jackson. Or Bryce Brown, Or Sammy Watkins”
Spiller, Jackson, and Brown combined hd zero rushing touchdowns. Don’t pretend a lucky TD return is the same as rushing the ball. And Watkins fumbled the ball at the one. Refs missed the call.
By the way, Tannehill, it was FOUR

  1. Man, even my local team, the crappy Houston Texans and their 87-year-old slow QB scored more than our beloved Dolphins today. Le’ts stay positive and hope we recover.

    1. they also played the raiders…

  2. What a pathetic fan. And you root for a pathetic organization. The Bills might go .500 this year, and they just pounded the shit out of your awful, awful team. Buffalo must take solace in having free wins on their schedule.

    1. Sadly, commenters like LOL have bragging rights this week and we just have to accept the mocking. The Bills will still end up 4-12 once B.J. Manuel comes down off his last two lucky wins.

      1. It’s not bragging — it’s pointing out what a moron the author sounds like. Don’t talk trash when your team is garbage. I mean, this game wasn’t even close — the Bills flat out dominated the Fins. What’s the point of writing a snide article like this? Give respect where it’s due, otherwise you sound like a petulant baby and you’re embarrassing yourself.

    2. I watched this game from denver and wow. All miami fans are pathetic. Before the game theyre going to “destroy your team” after the game “the refs blew it” or “we didnt play to full potential” As for all you saying the bills are a bad team, they beat you, get over it. Saying their offense was bad? one touchdown on 7 drives? ya’ll had 1 touchdown on 12 drives. Bills defense manhandled you except for a missed false start (so you cant blame the refs) Bills are a team to watch out for this year and you guys saying they’re bad after they put your team to shame? that’s just immature and shows that Fins fans are truly sore losers. Tannehill played awful and so did the rest of your team. 2 turnovers to none thats how you lose a game. As for the Watkins touchdown, yeah it was sketchy, but during commercial break it was reviewed and tip of the ball hit the pylon while he still had posession, in other words, its a good Touchdown. Quit your crying and immature blog posts and move on to next week. All the bitching in the world wont change the fact you guys lost.
      P.S. see y’all crybabies week 12

      1. Bills are the “best team” in a pathetic AFC division but will go nowhere come the playoffs, just like last year.

        1. Carlos you just prove my point, youre sore losers. accept that Buffalo was the better team and move on. Maybe next time, but probably not

  3. D-Truth you were right. This game told us more about our team than did game one. Im going to save commenting about things that have been already mentioned elsewhere ad nauseam. I will once again offer a different perspective about todays game which can be defined as an organized breakdown of will.

Every game is a struggle and both sides will suffer set backs and blown plays. This is our beloved game after all. The way a team recovers from those setbacks is what defines winners and losers. We all know this as well. What the breakdowns of the past and present are telling me is that there is still a lack of leadership element in our team. Effective leadership within the rank and file pulls teams together and sustains the morale while fighting through a tough team and the challenges along the way. Leadership rallies the players and slows the infection of doubt and the end effect of mentally handing over dominance to the opponent.

We saw this early last year against the Saints, twice against Buffalo, and once against the Jets. Save for the Saints game, we played far below our potential and simply gave up about 1/2 the way through. This is not a talent or coaching issue its a leadership issue period!

My case in point proves the positive effects of leadership and also proves our team lacks enough of it. My proof is Knowshon Moreno. He inspired the offense with his brash attitude and passionate play. Yes he made some excellent plays but far more was going on. His effect was visible and you could tell the other offensive players were feeding off it during the Pats game. Even some offense players mentioned that he fired them up in post game interviews. Today we lost Knowshon which in of itself was a setback. Who rallied us after his departure? Who kept things in check? Nobody did. Even Philbin as he simply gave up during late 2nd quarter rally . Failing to call time outs to allow that drive some time to maybe get a field goal. And more importantly, give the team something positive from a terrible 1st half to build on.

This tells me that sadly as talented as T-hill is, he lacks the unteachable element of dominant forcefull leadership and unshakable confidence. Hes passive in a game that tradition dictates the QB is the team’s leader and thus agressive. All of his players expect him to be this and it shows he isnt considered the main leader by them. He’s even said it himself that he “could be the leader of this team”. Im not bashing T-Hill but when players whom expect to be lead find nobody to take this role, the team fails to have spirited direction and is unable to get back up once it’s nose is bloodied. Hasnt this been the case all too many times in the past 3 years?

As far as Philbin? Why didn’t the team fall back on him once Knowhon was out? Why didn’t anybody else step up and pull the chaos in line? Because the team is disunited once things start to go wrong and is leaderless at its core. In the Pats game we had our only leader Knowshon the entire time and were able to come back. Without him we not only lost our best running back, our only universal leader, but also our inspiration to continue playing hard. The effect was on all sides of the ball.

In closing, until this problem is solved and it could very well be by the end of the season, our inconsistency will continue endlessly. Buffalo , with all the opening game sentimental and emotional ceremonies definitely had the mental edge at the start. We allowed them to build on this as we ceded more and more away until far too much damage was done to our morale and not even the best of leaders could have pulled us from our own self induced funk. Either someone or lack of someone is causing this. They need to be benched or hurried back to the starting line. WHO IS IT ?

    PhinsUp Out!

    1. Author

When you’re rtight. you’re right, and PhinsUp is right again. Tannehill seems to lack that leadership on offense that we need so badly. The Dolphins rallied behind Moreno in Week One, and in Week 2 we had no one.
Just once, I wanna see Tannehill storm off the field and throw his helmet at someone (Lamar Miller preferably for all those drops). Let’s see him get in Lazor’s face. Let’s see him jump up after a sack and scream at his line. Shame the big fellas into playing better.
Instead, he just calmly jogs off.
And as we have said for 2 years, T-hill is tough as nails and never quits. And Dolphins Truth won’t quit on him yet. But that isn’t the same as being a rallying leader.

  4. Why is there no mention of Sammy Watkins fumbling the ball into the end zone and it being called a TD instead of a touch-back? The play wasn’t even reviewed either? WTF?

    1. Titz, u are absolutely right. The refs handed a free win to Buffalo

      1. not saying that but at least review the damn play like you are supposed to do.

  5. LOL the refs were the Dolphins best player. Only reason they got a td. It was 4th and 3 at the Bills 41 when there was a blatant false start on Miami (RT I believe) that went uncalled. Instead of 4th and 8 and a likely punt, Miami converted the 1st down and went on to score a td. Refs didn’t help the Bills. The Bills just absolutely dominated the Dolphins in every aspect of the game.

    1. @Ryan, it might have been a false start, so we got away with 5 free yards due to Ref errors. You guys got away with 14 points due to Ref errors.

      1. More like Buffalo got away with 21 points.

  6. I wondered the same thing titz101. I thought all scoring plays were to be automatically reviewed. Even if he did fumble into the endzone, I dont think it would have been a touchback unless it went out of the endzone. Sadly at that point, I was happier to give them a quicker TD and get the ball back, than let them run 3 plays taking more time and then get the TD. Especially the uninspired way we were playing today. For all the missed and blown calls made though, I dont think the outcome would have been much different. The breakdown was so obvious just like last time we played them.

    1. I’m pretty sure it would’ve been a touchback if it were fumbled out of the endzone. Doesn’t matter if it is the back of the endzone or the sides. The bottom line is it should’ve been reviewed.

      1. Author

The ball was fumbled before the endzone. That is clear, and the refs blew it. The loose ball then hit the pylon, which by rule makes it a touchdown and Miami’s ball t the 20. That makes it infuriating.
However, and Titz101 properly mentioned, many Dolfans are annoyed because there was no review. It’s fine if the refs want to give the Bills a touchdown, but at least review it first.

  7. @Ryan I remember the commentators mentioning that we probably got away with a false start for that play. Personally Im unconcerned with the Watkins fumble. It wouldn’t have changed the outcome much.

    1. Refs weren’t great either way. Bills were just better today. Could be a different story in Miami. Still a lot of season to go. GL the rest of the way.

    2. Yea but what about the bills D jumping offsides on almost every play but only getting called for 1 or 2 of them?

    3. It might have you don’t know. At that point it was 16-10 and Miami would’ve gotten the ball back at the 20 with some momentum. Instead they went down 23-10. Big difference between being down 6 pts and being down 13.

  8. @Ryan fact that your team would have eventually scored a TD being on the 1/2 yard line. Unless we recovered said fumble.

Im secretely glad you guys got such an impressive win even though Im heartbroken by the Phins loss. Ive always respected Jim Kelly and even though yall regularly spanked us in the 90’s during the 4 superbowl appearances. I always rooted for the Bills to stay loyal to the AFC. Im glad your team isnt going anywhere as I want the Bills right where my Phins can find them :-). Enjoy your dominant victory on this special day. You team played admirably!

  9. I’m starting to see why everyone makes fun of Miami sports fans. Yikes.

  10. @Pete there is nothing here unfamiliar to the landscape of all sports fans. The typical banter of disappointment, over confidence, and as always some blame for players and referees. If your not happy with what your reading here. Please go back to your more classy forums and let me know where I can join them too.

  11. It would’ve been a tough game to win even if everyone played well with that D-line and amped crowd. Nothing went right however.

First sign of doom- Moreno being injured

2nd- the punt block that led to a 6-0 lead.

3rd- IMO, the biggest issue was the offensive line couldn’t hear the snap count. Add that to the fact that their front line is all probowlers and it created havoc for us to get good run push and pass protection. The defense knew the ball was snapped before our lineman did.

4th- We couldn’t gain momentum. We come out of the half and get a nice drive where we settled for 3, ok at least we did something right. Its 9-3 Bills. But then we let Spiller go 102 yds on the ensuing return, 16-3. Now it’s all about catching up on the road vs the best Dline and a very amped up crowd.

5th-Miller on 3rd and 2 drops an easy 1st down play. Luckily we converted on 4th down. But on a drive we had to stretch for a score we go back to Miller on 3rd and 3 on our own side of the field. Why did Lazor expect this to go well the 2nd time around? Just a terrible starting RB. Less Miller more Williams next week please.

Yes there were bad calls (especially the Watkins TD fumble) but they were nonfactors because we killed ourselves all day long.

    1. Author

Mike J is correct about Buffalo’s d-line. But as good as they are, there are ways to counter-balance that, and Philbin/Lazor refused to budge. Stubbornness = Losses in the NFL. Lazor consistently ran formations with 4 WRs and 1 RB. That is 5 guys running pass routes, and 5 guys blocking. It wasn’t enough. We needed 7 in. We needed Tannehill to roll out. We needed draw plays, NOT that stupid option-read that didn’t fool anyone. If this doesn’t change soon, we’re gonna start a petition to bring back Mike Sherman.

    2. You didn’t let spiller run a kick back. He did that because he’s better than anyone you have on your entire offense. And the wahhhhhgh Watkins fumbled…wah we want the refs to bail us out after the Bills drove the entire field on our.defense. As soon as the tip off the ball is above white paint…its a td. If he fumbled out sideways into the pilon then it was already a.touchdown. as was so obvious that even questioned it. Waghhgghhhhhh refs save us from our inept defense…

      1. @Tasker, doesn’t know the rules. A fumbled ball that hits the pylon is not a touchdown. It is Dolphins ball.
Those 4 straight Super Bowl losses really really bother Bills fans so much, that they start making up rules.

  12. Typing a comment because I can’t talk too well today. Vocal cords worn out from screaming at the stadium all day yesterday.

You guys are a bunch of babies. Fact is you were spanked by a better combination of team and fans. You clowns CANNOT match what we have here….an insane fan base creating a massively hostile environment for our opponents. The Bills are BACK baby! Deal with it.

Oh by the way – thousands of us are going to be in your whatever the name of it is stadium in a few weeks and we will be heard. GO BILLS!

    1. Calm down bro, don’t get a head of yourself. I don’t live in buffalo anymore, but i am still a fan. I would be ecstatic to see the bills make it to 8-8. But i just don’t think they are that good yet. I hope i am wrong.

But as for this guy blaming the ref’s. That is sad. Good teams have to be able to play past the bad calls and still win the game!

    2. Author

LOL. I love when fans like brilliant dave take credit for his team’s win. The Bills spanked the Dolphins and we got killed. Congrats. Accept the win. But don’t say laughable stuff like the Dolphins got beat by a combination of team and fans. Dave, was it you who blocked the punt? Or was it you who sacked Tannehill?

  13. Bwhhahahahahahahahahhaahahaha!!!

  14. This is the most pathetic bunch off whiners i have ever heard. Wahhhh refs…wah,…fans too loud….wah it was a touchback…. hilarious. Did you but watch the game. Cameron wake got dominated by a 7th round pick. Bills lines both far superior. Bills talent at skill positions far.superior. Mike Wallace is the only guy who would even see the field in buffalo. Your #2 wr is Brian Hartline. He wouldnt even make the team in buffalo. You got abused by the same team that blew you out last year…4 of the last 5 games…..wahhhhhhhhh maybe you’re just not good. As everyone watching saw. Owned by the Bills againnnnn

    1. Author

LOL, Tasker. We wrote an entire article about how the Bills destroyed the Dolphins, and you brilliant Bills fans STILL yell at us. What more do you want?

      1. @Admin, Tasker is a typical Bills fan, named after a tiny little special teams player from about 25 years ago. He’ll be shoveling snow for the next 4 months while we’re at the beach.

        1. Actually curt. Lived in Cutler bay.for 3 years.and davie, fl for 2. If i need jacked up cost of living, or vd ill.move.back. Miami is buffalos easy.W. get over it, your offense sucks.

  15. His opening paragraph was about bills pathetic offense….his.words. and I’m referring to the whining little girls comments. 3 in a row isn’t luck scrubs. Scoreboard.

    1. Author

You have the best defense in the AFC. Some would say it’s even better than Seattle’s incredible defense. That defensive line is unbeatable. And yet despite all that, you guys were a crappy 6-10 team. That losing record (many years in a row) is because of your offense, is it not?

  16. Back to back 19.point wins. ….must be the refs…wahhhhh

  17. Honestly i love the back n forth flame wars going on as they are entertaining and educational. To the Bills fans I think most of you would somehat agree the comments here are mild and in good spirit. This site is definetely bias by its design. But if you read many past articles you will see plenty criticism for the dolphins too. Sorry some things offended you but Im sure nothing is sweeter than a W in a big way to prove us wrong. And boy we were! So this is whats its all about for us fans of the phins and bills alike. Now can the phins even the series or will the bills crush us again? See yall in a while and thanks for dropping in.

  18. This is an interesting forum and I’m probably one of the oldest commenters. I go wayyyy back to the early 1960s, and overall I am pleased to see this place populated with passionate fans. That’s the way it should be. Yeah, I’m Buffalo born and bred and and have heard it all from the other side — so I agree with PhinsUp. This is entertainment, no more, no less.

Welcome, Diabolo. If you want passionate fans, you’re in the right place!! DolphinsTruth began as a fan site, but it has evolved, unfortunately, into a site where we express our frustration with the Dolphins. And this week, the Bills fans are (rightfully) rubbing it in and making us even more frustrated! Oh well, I hope Miami puts a few wins together so we can get back to some praise and analysis.

  19. I am a UM homer, and I have ZERO use for Lamarr Miller. He can’t catch or block, and HAS to dance before runs threw the line. He needs to get gone. Tannehill has regressed sorely. I am terrified every time he drops back to pass. I have never seen such an inaccurate passer in my life. Its a joke. These receivers has got to STOP dropping passes. Its rare enough when they getTO catch, but then to drop the pass is a sin.

    1. @Tony I feel your frustration. I so hope we have a better showing when we play KC. Id be lying if I didnt say I was worried though.

  20. I would like to share a story with you. I was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. I got out in 2011 at 100% disability. In 2007 I was in an IED blast that diabled me and killed one of my Team Leaders. His name was Dustin “Dusty” Perrott and he was a Dolphins fan. Leading up to the mission where I was injured and he died we were at our Fire Base. He had this Miami Dolphins towel that he would hang up to annoy me. So everytime he hung it up I would throw it down on his ruck sack. We went back and forth like this a few times. We laughed about it and talked about both of our teams and there struggles. He died in July of 07, the same year the Dolphins went 1-15( i believe that was there record). I saw something in this though. I felt the Dolphins lost those games and did so bad because withought there fans knowing or the Orginization knowing you guys lost one of your best fans. And that one win was for Dusty. You might think this is corny but I wanted to share this with you, with strangers, with fellow Football fans and with my fellow Americans. We all love Football and sometimes without you knowing there are way more important things happening in the world than a game. But we all do so love this game. So good luck on the season, keep the trash talk comming, and smile, because your alive, healthy and able to watch the greatest game in the world. Go Bills Go Fins. Airborne All The Way.
