Wow, the Buffalo Bills showed the correct way to handle a 3rd-string quarterback.  In harassing and confusing New England QB Jacoby Brissett all day long, the Bills were able to shut out New England.   Yes, they shut out New England.  At Foxboro.  Is Rex Ryan THAT much smarter than the Dolphins?    We gave up 7 points to Brissett, and it turned out to be the difference in the game.   The Texans gave up 27 to the bum.  The Bills?   They gave up zero.  I envy a defense like that.

I watched Joe Flacco engineer a comeback attempt against the Raiders.  Down a point and at midfield, Flacco tried 4 passes in a row.  On at least 2 of them, he had an easy running lane ahead of him, and he could have ran for the first down and into field goal range.   But he chose to stay in the pocket.   The Ravens lost because or Flacco being such a pocket-minded quarterback who doesn’t even think to run.   I bring this up because I feel Ryan Tannehill has become the same way.   Good things happen when Tannehill runs, but he doesn’t do it often enough.   Adam Gase certainly doesn’t call plays for him either.

Tannehill is actually faster than some defensive backs. If only he or Adam Gase understood this.
Tannehill is actually faster than some defensive backs. If only he or Adam Gase understood this.

The Steelers show the proper way to bounce back from a loss.   They blew up the Chiefs.

Rookie QBs and backup QBs continue to win games.  The Broncos are 4-0, thanks in part to QB Trevor Siemian.   We all see what the Eaglea are doing behind their rookie QB.  And Dallas?   Same story.

I am a little later than most of my readers in calling for a change at Dolphins QB, but it’s time.  It really is.  You don’t know if you have a diamond in the rough unless you at least give it a try.  When we’re getting blown out by the Patriots or the Bengals, why not give one of our backups a chance?   You know the other Dolphins would rally behind him.

Why do all of our coaches insist on keeping Tannehill in there, game after game after games.   Stats are for suckers.  Wins and losses count, and Tannehill is driving up to losses.    What’s the worst than can happen if we start Mattt Moore or Brandon Doughty?   Maybe we lose some games?   We’re already losing!   All the time!   Can a change be so terrible?   I don’t get the logic of these coaches.

Tom Brady comes back Sunday….against the poor Browns.  The Patriots might put up 75 points.    The Dolphins sit in last place, of course, but at least we’re not alone.   Thanks to the Jets, we are only the CO-cellar dwellers.

  1. Tannehill is from the Philblin/Sherman regime. Gase should be a man of his word and bench Tannehill like he’s benched other players who he feels is not playing up to par.

Com’on Gase, show us fans you have a pair and make a change at quarterback.

Like Trump said “what do you have to lose?”

  2. Author

Yeah, Gase doesn’t have to come out publicly and shame Tannehill. But he should just say that we want to see what Brandon Doughty has to offer. The losses are not Ryan’s fault, but we feel a change is best at this point. You never know. “What do we have to lose” is a very fair way to put it.

  3. Vernon said one reason he wanted to go to NY was because of Manning. He wanted a QB that could win a SB.
He didn’t believe in THill and I wonder how many more on the team think that way?

    1. Why would anyone believe in TannePuke? All he does is lose. We’ve endured 9 years of crap QB’s and NO winning seasons since Ross took over.

      1. Author

        Vernon is smarter than Gase!

        1. Don’t know about that but Vernon saw firsthand for 3 years as his teammate.

  4. I said this before and I think its true. The only reason Gase was hired is because he agreed that Tannepuke would be his QB. Mike Shanahan and others were interviewed but would never agree to that.

I think Gase needs permission from Steve Ross and Tannebaum in order to bench Tannehill. He can not go against them no matter what he wants. Don’t forget it was Ross who decided to draft Tannehill and Tannenbaum who gave him that moronic contract.

They wouldn’t allow Philbin to make a change and they aren’t allowing Gase either.

JMO based on what I’ve seen, heard and read.

  5. lets take this logic a step further. If Gase really is married to tannehill via his agreement coming to the Dolphins. Then he will have to display week after week on the field that change is needed. The only way you do this is to keep Tannehill on the field. It will become increasingly obvious that change is needed even for Ross as slow as he is to realizing it ala Philbin. Now I dont think Gase would purposely sabotage Tannehill by calling bad plays ect. But his case will be rock solid after poor performances by our heartless fireless quarterback. God damn it even when Tannehill gets upset it looks fake like hes faking it. I feel sorry for the kid in a way.As raw as he was he should have learned from the bench for a year while moore ran the team. They threw him out there and our vanilla go go! offense was tailor made for him because he really was that inexperienced. The only good thing is if hes given the boot Garrapolo is looking good enough that Tannehill wont be able to challenge him for his spot and we wont get embarrassed once again by NE making him into a pro bowl qb.

As I’ve said many times, there is simply zero proof that Gase (or Philbin) had secret orders to play Tannehill every single quarter of every single game. If the head coach feels a change is needed, then the head coach makes a change. He doesn’t call Stephen Ross to ask if he may move people around. I could be very wrong about this, but I don’t like to speculate when I analyze the Dolphins. We have to go by what we see, not what we think might be super-secretive directives from the owner.
Besides, our owner is usually in New York City rooting for his favorite team (Michigan Wolverines). So he doesn’t have time to be bothered with the Dolphins.

      1. Simply not true. He has meddled since day one.

It was widely publicized that it was Ross who picked TannePuke.

And Mario Williams said he never saw an owner at contract negotiations before Ross did it with him.

        He is absolutely meddling.

        1. Author

Jay, this is Dolphins Truth, not Dolphins Repeat Rumors. I am not saying you are wrong at all. Ross may have picked Tannehil, and we don’t argue if that’s the case. But for 5 years, you’ve been saying that Gase/Campbell/Philbin/Lazor/Sherman etc have all been under secret orders from Ross, prohibited them from sitting out Tannehill

          1. Sherman liked TannePuke, Lazor had no say, Philbin we know wanted a different QB and was not allowed……

  6. I think the reason tannehill has looked even worse under gase is because gase is making him run a real NFL offense. Never before has tannehill had to make decisions or read the defense, all he had to do was run the exact plays philbin told him to. No audibles or anything, Now that he has more freedom like a real NFL quaterback we’re seeing how awful his decision making really is. The more freedom he has the worse he looks, and I’m convinced it’s because he can’t process all the information from play to play like a quaterback is supposed to.

    1. Yup, there’s a reason no other coach gave him freedom!!

      1. Terrible 3rd down decisions/indecisiveness, inaccurate passes and lack of pocket awareness. We have seen all of these at one point or another (several times all at once) and it always gets worse when Tannehill has to be at his best. With that said I still wouldn’t bench him.
Either he grows or falters as the season goes on. Either way, we have our answers for 2017.

BTW, I do believe that Ross/Tbaum have put pressure on Gase to keep Thill in. The reason is simple marketing. That #17 jersey is a big seller.

        1. Author

If I had a #17 jersey, I wouldn’t wear it. I like to wear my #33 jersey around town and watch people try to figure it out.

  7. Dan Marino – The last QB to be drafted in the first round of the 1983 NFL draft by the Dolphins. Took his team, the Dolphins, to the playoffs ten times. Took the Dolphins to and won the AFC Championship and went on the Super Bowl in only his second year in the league.

Ryan Tannehill – Drafted 8th overall in the 2012 NFL draft by the Dolphins. Still with the Dolphins….um, that’s it folks!

    1. Oh, I forgot, Ross gave Tannehill a ninety something million dollar contract after his third year in the league.

  8. Meddling from the start.

One of the biggest mysteries of the upcoming NFL Draft is how many picks will pass before Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill is selected as the likely third passer taken. One thing is becoming immediately clear: if he is available when the Miami Dolphins make the eighth pick of the draft, team owner Stephen Ross would really love to have him.

ProFootballTalk reported Sunday evening that Ross is “the man pushing hardest for Tannehill” in Dolphins camp. Very much wishing to make the Miami fan-base forget that he was unsuccessful at luring either of the two top free agent quarterbacks (Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn) to South Florida last month, Ross wants to do something to create a buzz in an increasingly crowded local market.

I completely agree with Jay on this one (although I’m sure he will now change his position and start arguing with me!!!!) it was always implied by the news outlets that Ross picked Tannehill and that his stamp has been on many different facets of the organizations personal decisions.

    1. Author

No doubt that Mr. Ross influenced the drafting of Tannehill and probably others. I’m sure he signed off on letting Pro Bowlers Reggie Bush, Jake Long, Dan Carpenter and others leave too. But when it’s game time, and Tannehill has already thrown 3 interceptions and fumbled twice and we’re losing 40-3, I don’t think the head coach has to call New York City to ask Mr. Ross’s permission. It may be true though. Gase may fully realize that Tannehill is not the answer and may be handcuffed from benching him. I can’t see Ross being so stubborn that he accepts losses and….okay, changed my mind. He CAN be that stubborn.

      1. @Admin

Welcome to the Dark Side! Maybe we can christen October 5th as “The Dark Day!” to commemorate the day we all stood in solidarity with Jay an Unanimously called for Tannehills beaching.

        1. It only took ya 5 years. You guys are very slow. LOL

          1. Author

Two years ago I called for Tannehill to be benched. Remember, it was right before the Oakland game in London, and T-hill was looking like a pig. Then all of a sudden, he went on fire for a few games in a row and fooled me….I actually thought he had turned something around.

            1. That may be, but generally you have been the biggest TannePuke homer on here believing that each new coach and assistant would improve T-Puke,

            2. Yes I to was fooled by that but you know what finially convinced me was the last game when he got “Mad” and was yelling at his Olineman while walking away.

1st – It looked to me like he was faking being mad

2nd – You arn’t making a point if your doing it with your back to the guys and walking away like your retreating.

He isn’t a leader of men and for all the talent he has it wont make up for lack of leadership, personal accountability and likeability and it seems he lacks all of these.

Also does it look like he has the mental speed to run a full speed NFL offense?

              1. To not improve after all the game experience he’s had (68 consecutive starts) is mind boggling. He’s pathetic.

  10. And Mario Williams hated the Bills Rex Ryan defensive scheme but it clearly worked against the Pats….

  11. Well, Tennessee Titans blows into town next. The Titans have a formidable running attack (4th in the NFL) so we’ll see if the Dolphins have figured out a way to keep from getting ran thru like diarrhea this time. If not, I hope the Dolphins can counter their run attack by beating up on their quarterback since they are the 27th worse team at throwing the football.

I can only keep my fingers crossed and hope the Fins don’t lay another turd on home field.

    1. Actually its Matthew blowing into town next.

  12. If we stop the run against the Titans we have a chance. Mariota is having a bad year and his WR are not helping. They have a great OL and Murray is running people over again. If our D is on the field all day like usual they will have no chance against Titans OL. THill has to put together some long drives and get a lead of 14 pts so Titans will have to run less and pass more. Then our Pass rushers can run down hill and control the 4th quarter.
