The Dolphins basically gave Ereck Flowers to the Redskins in what can only be described as a cost-cutting move.

The Dolphins continue to believe that a handful of new offensive linemen and zero continuity year after year after year is a good idea.  It’s an annual merry-go-round on the line.  After letting our most consistent lineman–center Ted Karras–walk away to the Patriots, the Dolphins now get nothing in return for our 2nd best lineman, guard Flowers.

Versatile backup Julien Davenport was also sent packing, along with one-and-done tackle Isaiah Wilson.

It might be a sign that we are making roster space for Penei Sewell.   Or it could be a decoy to make the Bengals think we’re going to take Sewell.

All I know is we have gaps to fill on both sides of the ball there—gaps that were NOT there a few months ago.  Shaq Lawson and Kyle Van Noy were productive and now need replacements.  Ted Karras and Ereck Flowers were consistent if not spectacular, and now they need replacements as well.

  1. I don’t like this. Flowers played very well aside from his injury. Sure it says cost but I thought he was a key signing to help our o line who was terrible. Sure we have a lot of young guys but protection will be key. Anyway again it looks like there’s a direction that the staff wants and they’re making moves that they want to make which is nice to see, but I’m not sure this is the right one at all.

  2. Don’t forget they just signed Fluker so they may consider him an upgrade and he played with Skura. Saved 10 M and building a good young oline. Either way I can see them either going Sewell or grabbing one at 18 someone like Jenkins. Possibly keep Hunt at OT and draft inside lots of options but they can still go in many different ways so flexibility is there. Also playing mind games with everyone pretty funny.

Fluker and Skura might excel, in which case I’m mad about nothing. But getting some continuity for our young QB with a consistent offensive line has to be our top consideration, in my opinion.
2 days to go, and I’m still baffled over who we might select at 6. Much depends on what the Falcons and Bengals do…

      1. If you don’t know what’s happening Admin than none of our opponents do either! Fantastic smokescreen. I think this was planned all along. Could also be that the young oline guys are progressing better than expected maybe Deiter will start this year which would be great news.

I just think that it’s clear now that they can go in a lot of directions at 6 or trade back and fleece another team. I’m pumped for Thursday!!! Ultimately I’d still like to see Pitts, Parsons or Sewell. If they trade back then it opens up even more options love it.

          1. I won’t be off work till after 6pm tomorrow admin. Not sure if I will be doing a zoom meeting. I’ll let you know if I do. If you have one let me know please.

I was high on Penei Sewell early on, then I got a little mundane about him as I bought into the Kyle Pitts talk.
Now it seems, once again, like Sewell could indeed be our pick. I was kinda looking forward to a flashy playmaker at #6, but a stud lineman might be the smarter move.
All these guys on our radar…there has to be something under the surface that makes them unattractive to scouts. No way are all these top-10 guys angels with a perfect heath record. Look for some arrest record or something like “beat-his-girlfriend” stories to emerge in the next 30 hours. Laremy Bong Tunsil sound familiar?

    1. I don’t think that they can go wrong with Sewell he’s probably the more stable pick out there. Not saying Pitts or Chase wouldn’t be awesome to add but it’s not life threatening either as they’ve done a good job of adding some more talent over there. They can also add some later on if they feel it necessary. They could also go Parsons and I wouldn’t be upset.

I’m just not sure about anyone else at 6 Waddle is good but could they not move back a few slots and still get him or someone else of similar talent? Maybe I’m downplaying how good he is but that’s my only hesitation after we get by the big 3-4 playmakers. What do you think Admin?

I have a hunch we may trade down. I think the NY Giants may covet our #6 pick more than some other teams. The NFC is all bunched up with Dallas picking 10, the NYG 11, and the Eagles 12. Washington is not far back at 19.
All three non-Cowboy teams must seriously consider jumping ahead of Dallas. You can’t let your hated division rival draft a player that you yourself want. You can’t just sit back and accept Dallas’s leftovers. You have to pay the price to move ahead.
I hope the Giants make us an offer. We would move from 6 to 11, but then also pick up a #1 next year and at least a 2nd in 2023.
Admittedly, it will kill my excitement if Goodell were to announce “With the 6th pick, the Dolphins have traded….” and then we’d only have to wait until 11. But if the future of the team matters (and it does), than going down a mere 5 spots will still net us a great player.

Also, my friend is a diehard Ram fan who still keeps his head down low after we dismantled poor Jared Goff last season! Anyway, he knows a Rams scout (this is true and verified) who has DeVonta Smith ranked atop all WRs. Reuniting Tua and Smith (and ignoring Chase or Waddle) is what the Rams would do if they had our pick.

        1. Very interesting but not surprising about Smith. If he’s a true football player which he says he is then he’ll be fine. I still find it hard to take him at 6 same with Waddle. I’d go with Pitts, Chase, Parsons or Sewell in no particular order as they know best. I think Detroit will take whomever is left so if you trade back you are gambling a bit with that list.

If they don’t care they could trade back and still end up with a very good player and more draft ammo this year or next. Smith, Waddle, Slater could all still be there if they dropped to 9 or 11 but it has to make sense. I’m thinking that they may not drop back now as one of those guys will be too tempting.
