…And it is Xavien Howard.

I think that Albert Wilson was on his way, having put up some impressive numbers and several highlight-reel plays.   But no one else shined through as a potential Pro Bowler.

There’s been a lot of talk about replacing our front office, but I think the 2018 Draft was our best in years.   (That’s not saying much, but still.)   As I pointed out before, 2018 is the first year in Dolphins history where 3 different rookie draft choices scored touchdowns (Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jerome Baker, and Kalen Ballage).    Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe get a lot of playing time, and they could possibly be number 4 and 5.   But both have been non-factors this season, so no reason to expect anything more.

So I think we should give the front office another year.   If Adam Gase had 11 All Pros on offense, we’d still be a .500 team.   His schemes, poor designs, predictability, pass-happy nature, and refusal to use his hottest players are the factors that doomed our offense during his reign.    When the coach calls for a long bomb on virtually every single 3rd-and-one over his tenure, you don’t blame the players.  He really is the pits, and his arrogant denials make it even worse.

Adam Beasley in the Herald had a funny article yesterday about how Kalen Ballage has a chance to use the next two games as his audition for 2019.  Uhhhh, Adam?   What about his last game?   The guy single-handedly controlled two drives in a row, got us right back into a game, and breathed life into his team.  He PASSED his audition already.   Not his fault that his coach refused to lean on him more.

  1. Beasley was correct. Ballage had 1 long run and averaged 4.4 on his other carries which may be what Gore averaged for the year (without checking). I game doesn’t make a career or even guarantee keeping him on the roster next year. But because Gse like shim,he’s guaranteed a spot when that idiot says he ends up in the end zone every practice-LOL! Using that same guide,Albert Wilson’s amazing game against the Bears makes him the greatest ever,

Karma, you sound like 4.4 yards per carry is bad. Do the math….if you hand off to someone and they get 4.4 per carry, what happens after 3 carries? After 6? Etc.
If he is stuffed on first down, the law of averages say he will gain 8 yards the next. And like Adam Gase, you’re not taking into account the momentum this kid had going. The Vikings were demoralized after yielding 17 unanswered points. We got the ball back down by only 4. Ballage ran for yet another first down, setting us up at our own 40. First and 10. I woulda kept feeding that kid the ball until he puked. But Gase instead called for 3 sacks in a row, which made us fans puke instead.

  2. Yes.I went to Catholic school in Miami Springs and can multiply 4.4 x 3 .Your example is silly. He won’t get 4.4 on 3 consecutive runs,or even 2 necessarily. That’s why it’s called an average. He may also get stopped for a 4 yard loss. Then his 4.4 means nothing. You can’t run the ball on every play and average 4.4.

“You can’t run the ball every play”
You run it until they consistently stop you from running it. The Vikes could not stop our run, but they sure as hell can stop our pass!
Also, there WAS a streak in the game when he ran it three times in a row, and he got two first downs doing it! Remember, our whole chat room was lit up because it’s the first time in recent memory that Gase called 3 straight run plays.

      1. But there is more to this then just bad play calls, which as you pointed out, every coach can make bad calls. No, with Gase, the play designs are also garbage. This has been pointed out by several ex-player/HOFers. So Miami has to not only overcome an inappropriate play call, they also have to overcome a crappy design. And as Tunsil pointed out, Miami is not prepared for any possible contingency that the other team might call.

        1. Glad that WCFF mentioned tonsil’s quote about lack of preparation. Did you guys read that ? He admitted they did not know what to do. And the RBs missing blocks on the blitz pickups? Clearly the RBs fault. But how about Gase making them run blitz pickups drills over and over until they get it right. Practice it until second nature.

Look, I agree with you to a point. Gotta pass it at sometimes of course. But wait until those 4-yard losses start piling up, and THEN switch gears. Don’t be scared of a 4-yard-loss before it happens. THAT is the Gase Logic. “Can’t call a running play because they might suspect it’s coming. Better to take a sack.”

      1. I agree Gase has zero logic when calling plays, which hampers any consistent offensive production.

Misery loves company. I see a lot of the same garbage play calls from other coaches, but Gase is most consistent.
End of the Steelers-Pats game last Sunday, and Pitt has a chance to run out the clock to win. instead, they try a long touchdown pass attempt. incomplete. Clock stops. NE gets the ball back.
End of Pats-Dolphins game. NE at midfield with a minute left, and a chance to run out the clock to win. Instead, they try a long touchdown pass. Incomplete, but pass interference is called. First and goal for the Patriots, BUT….the clock stopped. That clock stoppage was huge,. It gave Miami just enough time to try one miracle play, and guess what happened?
Just a couple of examples where throwing the long ball does not do the trick.

          1. It really is the trend of the league every down no matter what the distance is considered a passing down. Which is why I commented the other day that if Gase was fired I doubt Miami would find much better as bad as Gase is. I can’t think of any coaches that would be good unless Harbaugh gets fired.
