Dolphins Truth would like your comments on if you feel Ryan Tannehill has what it takes.

Was Sunday’s loss a fair test, or was it the O-line’s fault?  Perhaps both.  That missed pass to a wide open Mike Wallace really hurt.  Two weeks in a row Tannehill made the identical mistake.  If he throws it to Wallace’s left, we score.  Instead he throws it to the right, and no score.

Lauren Tannehill’s husband continues to miss a wide open Mike Wallace on long passes.

Is Matt Moore capable?  Intriguing question.  The answer is unclear, but the point is that Matt Moore deserves a chance to prove it.  Under Joe Philbin, Moore has never been given a chance.   He is loyal.  He keeps his mouth shut and accepts his role as backup.  But surely he can hit a wide open Mike Wallace, right?

The offensive line certainly did no favors for Tannehill against the Bills.   Much of that is Philbin and Lazor’s fault.   I mean, Mario Williams is difficult to defend.   But KYLE Williams?   Kyle is a slow white guy over 350 lbs, and he has zero technique.   He simply rushes straight up the gut, every single down.  All day long.  And yet, even when you know exactly what he is going to do, the Dolphins let him do it.   It’s not like you have to worry about him blitzing around the right end and charging up Tannehill’s blind side.  Nope.  All he does is push straight forward.   And yet, Philbin had no answer.

The line broke down, and THAT is why we are not blaming Tannehill for these woes.  Another reason is that Lamar Miller dropped crucial passes several times.

Tannehill does a lot of things right, but those long passes to Wallace?  Those missed passes hurt a lot.

  1. Let’s consider BT’s history and not be surprised. He’s pretty much what you would expect given his history: (1) Played QB only 2 years at A&M (2) Long shot in the draft, only “known” QB left on the board (3) First year QB coach had not one wit of prior success developing a NFL QB (Hell the poor kid took 31 games to recognize a safety blitz.) (4) First year OC his college coach w/a college offense game plan, supervised by a conservative, risk-adversed HC (who could not control his locker room) but was the only guy who would take the Miami HC job. Are we getting the picture yet? BT, even if he had the talent and ability, which he clearly does not, never had a chance. (If I were Ross I’d ask for a refund.) (5) And this is truly beautiful, BT’s second year QB coach was a former A&M grad assistant. Mr. Ross’s money seems to have been spent keeping some good ‘ol boys employed. (If I were Mr. Ross I’d ask for a refund and fire my exec assistant.) In conclusion, what can you expect? Why be shocked? Pissed off and frustrated yes. A long shot QB draft pick w/absolutely no coaching help at the position level or offensive game plan or play calling levels. (Hell, Namath or Marino could call (have called!) better games than any of the clowns the Fins have employed over the past 10 years.) Sadly BT is done at the end of the season and good ridence to a stone head like “Philban”.

P.S. Really enjoyed watching Phiban out smart himself by half at half time yesterday. (Typical loser cal,l who understands the game at a higher level than those who think the object of the game is to score when one has the ball). Anyway, pissing away his team’s last possession of the half w/o calling a timeout, truly stone head elegance.

  2. @Not Surprised “Really enjoyed watching Phiban out smart himself by half at half time yesterday”
Yes, as Dolphins Truth mentioned yesterday, it’s ok to run out the clock when you’re at your own 10 yard line. But what about when we advanced to the 20, call a timeout then? What about when we were at the 35 with 1:20 or so left? Or the 40, and 45-yardline. Philbin is awful

  3. I consider myself as one of the last and longest holdouts here. I see some bright spots in THills game. Given his lack of QB pedigree, Im starting to have my doubts. First he seems to lack the unteachable trait of leadership. Second, hes developing at a breakneck speed but, the amount of development may be too much and too far and unless things start turning around very soon, his days could be numbered. Im seeing a little more spunk and agressive style but still not enough. I hope this ass whooping serves as a wake up call. Lastly i was so upset the starting job wasnt given to Matt Moore. He did so good after the horrendous Henne era. I thought he was a lock the next year.

T-hill remains a mystery. Pairing him with a dinosaur like Mike Sherman to begin his pro career was a disaster, but it got worse. T-hill’s QB coach with the Dolphins was Sherman’s son-in-law. That’s right. We at Dolphins Truth mention this nepotism every chance we get, to remind our fans of all the behind-the-door cronyism that occurs on the team, directly on Mr. Ross’s watch. Ross let Philbin hire his best friend Mike Sherman. Philbin then let Mike Sherman hire his own son-in-law. And we wonder why Tannehill hasn’t developed? Of all the potential QB coaches in the nation, Philbin thought that Mike Sherman’s son-in-law was the best of the best? And still to this day, we’re stuck with the inept son-in-law as out QB coach. Philbin needs to fire that bum or be fired.

  5. Yes in my sports experiences nepotism and cronyism were two things I absolutely despised! And anybody who played along side me knew it. Competitive sports is about winning first and if you happen to make some friends along the way fine but if you dont, thats fine too. And every time you bring it up I get pissed but Im glad to be informed and pissed than uninformed and still. When I think of this small bit of evidence I start to make broad based generalizations of the group of people running this team and at times I cant seem to convince myself that Im dead wrong. Meaning I kind of believe this but hope it isnt true. Read on..

Stephen Ross. Honestly seems like a great guy and good businessman obviously. But hes old and from a personality perspective he seems to give the benefit of the doubt and relies on advisers . (Can Marino save us?) And being football ignorant (not an insult just fact) he’s easily swayed by these quick witted football guys who hold great influence over his decisions. And thus you have Philbin hiring his old HC and then the OC hiring his son. And D-Truth you hit the nail on the head when you said “On Ross’s watch”. He’s okay with it because as far as he knows, this is the Football way. Then Philbin , Sherman, or both ,must have struck some kind of deal with Ireland to get Tannehill. I learned all this here and it still bothers me a lot.

Philbin: Strong character, excellent at handling media crisis, terrible at handling game crisis, disciplinarian, book worm football kind of guy. Probably great at schematics, decent with tactics, somewhat of a person to look up to but not someone the players would want to even politely joke around with.

This is evident at the total lack of personality any of our players have. Ever notice how none celebrate much besides Wake? Rarely if ever group celebrate after a good play? Not much signs of unity or comradery. Mostly drones out there. To me this is a sign of too much discipline and the players at times have voiced this and Philbin has tried to lighten up.

Bill Lazor: So far it seems he could be the smartest guy in the room. Easy going personality on its surface but signs of a perfectionist inside. Hes only 40 years old and still evolving. What scares me is if he gets disgusted with how things are run, and bails after his 1st year. Ask yourself this. If you were in his shoes and this was your huge coming out party. Then you dont or cant deliver the fast paced offense as promised. Would you be very happy about that? So is it Philbin or Tannehill in his way? Or could it be both? Im thinking it could be Philbin by proxy through Tannehill. My theory is that T-Hill cant grasp this complicated offense not because hes stupid, hes just too raw. Its not an easy sell to bench T-Hill for the better of the team so its not all on Philbin if Im correct. But if this is true and Lazor (who happens to be an ex QB coach and qualified to evaluate talent) doesnt get the right QB. Then Lazor looks like the problem. And if it were me, I wouldnt be too happy about that.

Rizzi : Special Teams. Ive never heard him speak but just looking at the silent footage of him speaking to Thigpen about the missed punt assignment. The first thing that popped into my head was ….sorry …. Con Artist. In more than one way it seems as he did a great job convincing somebody he was qualified and he clearly isnt.

So if Im half right in my latest long winded rant then it seems that if ownership isnt top notch, then as they say shit will roll on down hill. The pretender coaches and staff whom are better at pacifying and conning a football illiterate owner swarm in. Surround him creating his trusted inner circle. Then close ranks so as to keep out any outside challengers. Insuring the teams fortunes rest on the best of their abilities while suffocating any new ideas or staff. And thus insuring repeat after repeat of the same old shit season after season until the owner one day wakes up and cleans house.

In closing the Bills game had all the fingerprints of last season’s disasters. The implosion was in every way just as bad except we scored a few points. As I pull up the dipstick to check the engine health of my team , its the same old shit dripping from the end and now there is no talent excuse to blame. Even T-hill is just good enough now. Our O-line is competent, our receivers are way above average and our general depth at most positions is respectable. So what is the problem?

And our main complaint about Mr. Ross is he is far too involved in things that don’t affect the Dolphins. We’ve said this a hundred times since Dolphins Truth began. We don’t need him out begging the NFL to give a Super Bowl to the City of Miami 10 years from now. We don’t need him in NY City heading up task forces on bullying. We don’t need him courting Gloria Estefan and J-Lo to buy a piece of the stadium nightlife. We need him meeting with Philbin every single Monday morning to discuss what went wrong.

Yeah, Dolphins Truth once said that they wanna see T-hill throw his helmet in frustration. Now I see their point

  6. We all got a reminder last year of what Matt Moore is capable of when he was thrown into the game late. Failure. We don’t need that again. Stick with Tannehill. Tough times don’t last long, but tough people do.

    1. @Randy Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will spare the Matt Moore argument for the time being as I still believe T-Hill has the potential to be great. There have been some flashes here and there. I thought the touchdown passes to Wallace both weeks took guts and poise to execute. Especially the gutsy bullet pass to Wallace in the Pats game. Thats a definite sign hes coming along.

The Bills game was terrible and had all the similarity of last years incompetence and self destructive tendencies. It was like the ghost of the 2013 season let us all know in surprise white knuckle fashion he was still lurking around the corner waiting to snatch all hope once again.

Honestly if we had lost by even more points last Sunday but played in a competent way , I wouldn’t be so disappointed. Sorry to use the cliche but our team spirit and morale are our weakest point. And now it has been exposed once again by a team (Bills) whom seems to understand this. The Bills game was lost mentally not physically. All hope exited the field once Moreno was helped to the sideline. And if you cant realize that then I suggest you read the many articles quoting the Phins players stating he emerged as the lone leader and source of inspiration. Nobody stepped up and so far nobody will assume that role for whatever reason. This needs fixing and with a tough KC team in front of us, there isnt much time. And the Biggest question is . Why has nobody stepped up and why isnt T-Hill by default this person? Is it the coach or the player?

If nothing else, Tannehill is tough tough tough. He got drilled into the ground far too many times last year, and he kept getting up. But Moore came into the Bills game and immediately threw great long bomb to Hartline. He couldn’t sustain, and Randy is correct. But he did give us a spark, if only for one play.

You gotta wonder. A 25-year-old (or so) kid with a hot wife and about 12 million cash in the bank. Every week, he gets a new paycheck for $74,000 takehome pay whether he plays well or not. Maybe he isn’t motivated to win?

  7. I doubt that is T-Hills issue. I feel hes been sheltered as a wide out and even more so throughout his personal life. I could be wrong but somebody of his physical presence may have never been picked on or forced to fight a bully. These crucial life experiences force one to realize a second self in a competitive and combative confrontation. The killer instinct and fist clenched drive to will things physically and mentally ones way. Cerebral, intelligent, and physically gifted he is. Mentally stout and refusing to accept failure? I’m not so sure.
