The Dolphins thus far have been the NFL’s laughingstock, but did you see the Jags play today?   They all but handed a free win to the Texans. Houston, week in and week out, plays teams that simply roll over for them and make them look good.  Last week the Raiders blew a lead and laid down for them.  This week, Jacksonville didn’t bother to show up. Right off the bat, let me say that he all-out blitz on 3rd and 20 was an awful call.  I won’t defend that blitz.  But I do want to remind everyone of other bad, costly plays in that game.  The sad part is that these mistakes are oh so avoidable. We’re now 4 games into a 5-game lull in the schedule.  After feeding us 3 high-quality teams to begin the year, the NFL then served us 5 patsies.  We already lost to 3 of them (Chargers, Redskins, Bills).  Next up is Pittsburgh and the Jets. In what looks like a clear sign that Kenyan Drake is about to be traded, he is not with the Dolphins on their way to Pittsburgh. I’ve liked Drake for several seasons, but this is the right move.   His negative plays have worn out his welcome (in my book).   As I’ve mentioned several times, he will go down in history and in our hearts for his TD in the Miracle in Miami play. The Dolphins continue their schedule of overrated teams this week with a trip to Buffalo. Like the Chargers, the Bills are one of those teams that always starts fast and teases their fans.  Then they play a good team, and the Bills fans realize what the rest of the world already knows:  They aren’t good. The Atlanta Falcons have never been the same after handing a free-gift Super Bowl championship to the Patriots three years ago, and their long decline continues.    On Sunday, they barely put up a fight vs. Houston.  The Texans got to 3-2.  Let’s hope they start losing soon, because as we all know, the worse they do, the better our draft will be.   Thanks for nothing, Atlanta. Yahoo’s alleged sportswriter Eric Edholm published his mock draft today, citing the 3 players the Dolphins should pick with their 3 first-round picks. The offense scored its first touchdown since week one, and that is a small moral victory, as is gaining our first lead of the year. Last Sunday, Jeff Heath of the Cowboys illegally hit defenseless WR Allen Hurns in the head. It was a blatant, helmet-to-helmet shot, while Hurns wasn’t looking. Both of those situations are illegal. Remarkable the refs didn’t throw the flag. To make matters worse, Fox’s D-list of announcers said it was legal. Fox’s officiating “expert,” Dean Blandino (a rules expert who’s never officiated a game in his life) went even further and said no head contact was made. The Herald had an interesting (and incorrect) article today about how the Chargers have been built successfully. If zero championships and an early exit every single year is successful, then the Herald is correct and I am wrong.   But I’m not wrong.  The Chargers are not successful.  They are exactly like the Dolphins:  every year they are mediocre (a few games better than the Dolphins every year, but never 5 or 6 games better). I don’t see the Dolphins winning this game, and that’s no surprise. But if we can’t win, at least improve.     I’ll be looking for improvement in several areas, keeping my eye on guys like DeVante Parker and Charles Harris.   This is their third game under their new system, and no more excuses.   No more “I’m still learning the play calls” etc.   It’s time to see them step up a make a damn play.
