Ryan Tannehill was drafted the same year the Dolphins were featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks.   If you’ve never seen it, the show is a documentary on how NFL training camps work, with lots of candid behind-the-scenes conversations that fans rarely see. My first impression of Tannehill came from a simple conversation he had with Matt Moore, and the cameras were rolling.  I don’t remember the exact words, but it went something like this: Tannehill was new to the Dolphins, and Moore was talking to him about the AFC East and the upcoming schedule.  Tannehill did not know what teams were in the AFC East.  MooreRead More →

I’ve never been a fan of vastly over-rated Mike Pouncey.  But I am a fan of continuity on the offensive line.   With Pouncey and Jermon Bushrod both gone, we have nothing in the interior of the line. We won’t be able to run the ball at all, which is fine for Adam Gase’s pass-happy schemes.  We save some money, which is fine for Stephen Ross.  We will lose many many games, which is NOT fine for the fans. Management discarded 4 All Pros and got nothing in return but some low draft picks.   Ajayi, Landry, Suh, and now Pouncey.  If it was so infuriating itRead More →

Unconfirmed reports are declaring that Patriots WR Danny Amendola is coming to the Dolphins.   That accompanies news that we will also obtain Chiefs WR Albert Wilson. So that’s 2 WR signed in the course of 24 hours. A week ago, if you asked me what was the Dolphins strongest position–a position where we do not need to tamper…no need to sign free agents…no need to draft–it was WR.  But the Dolphins create their own needs, even when they don’t exist. The Dolphins drill a hole in their sink pipes and then say, “Hey, we just went out and hired the best plumber available.  Aren’t weRead More →

Word out of Miami is that Kong Suh will be the latest casualty in Stephen Ross’s disgusting purge of all the Dolphins’ best players. Suh is the latest Pro Bowler to get discarded by the inept decisionmakers in Davie.  Fellow All Pros Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry got the axe already.  After giving Ajayi away, the Dolphins doubled-down on that mistake by getting rid of Landry too.   Today, the triple-down was announced.  The three best Dolphins are now gone. Who is our best player now?  Who is nearest to becoming a Pro Bowler? There will be idiots out there who say that losing SuhRead More →

It appears that Jarvis Landry is on his way to Cleveland for a couple of mid-round draft picks.  That’s not the important part of this. The important part, as I feared and wrote about, is that Adam Gase just last week lied to us.  His lie is now proven.  He lied and said that they gave Landry the franchise tag because they wanted to keep him.  We now know that’s a lie.  Dolphin fans are spat on once again by team management. The other important part is that Stephen Ross remains one of the NFL’s most ineffective and misguided owners.  With one word, he couldRead More →

As of now, the Dolphin owner will not force players to stand for the National Anthem.   However, the NY Daily News quoted him as saying that his players will stand throughout 2018.  Ross then issued another statement saying that his first statement was misconstrued. We can’t make this stuff up, folks.  This is the torture of being a Dolphin fan.  Each new decree from our owner, followed up by the invariable “clarification,” invites ridicule and laughter from other NFL fans towards us.  I’ll cut Ross some slack, and we can assume his words and his intent were not clearly displayed by the Jets’  hometown newspaper.Read More →

Breaking:   Dolphins acquire defensive end Robert Quinn from the Rams.   Because having 47 defensive ends already on the roster apparently isn’t good enough.   The local media are getting more and more bold in their predictions that Landry will soon be traded, even though they have no proof.   We are no closer to an answer now than we were at the end of last season. He may get traded, and that would be stupid for the Dolphins to do, considering we’d probably get a mere third rounder in return. The interesting thing to me is that on Wednesday, Coach Adam Gase said publicly that theRead More →

At first it seems odd, or ludicrous, or even unconstitutional to require and NFL owner to devote his time and resources to the team he owns. After all, when you own a car, there are no laws that state how often you must wax it. If you own a TV, there are no laws about what channel you watch. However, the NFL operates in a longstanding bubble, where seemingly illegal labor laws are the norm. For example, you and I get to work wherever we want. But an NFL rookie MUST work for the team that drafts him. If I graduate high school and someoneRead More →

No, it’s not April Fool’s Day.   This is real. A few years after the Dolphins sided with Martin (now under police lock-up) instead of Richie Incognito (who continues to be an All-Pro each year), this story refuses to go away.  It’s one of the worst decisions in sports history, and it continues to haunt the Dolphins. Apparently, Martin posted a photo of a gun and then wrote that Revenge was an option when you are bullied.  That’s pretty scary.  But what makes it worse is that Martin tagged Mike Pouncey, the Miami Dolphins, and Incognito too.  Clearly he aimed that message at the people heRead More →

…but it’s not the one we want. News broke today that the Dolphins are changing their uniforms again, and I instantly became enthused that it would be back to the aqua and orange, with the mighty dolphin jumping upright through the sun.  But then Stephen Ross dashed  my hopes again.   He is only “tweaking” the existing uniform and logo. I don’t know what the tweaks will consist of, but it will not be a return to our proud logo and colors. Armando at the Miami Herald actually said the team CURRENTLY wears aqua and orange.  He is wrong.  Larry Csonka wore aqua.  Dwight Stephenson woreRead More →

On the deciding play in the Super Bowl, defensive end Brandon Graham lined up between the center and the guard, beat the guard, and won the game for his team. A defensive END lined up on the inside.  One of the Eagles’ best outside rushers fooled the Patriots by lining up inside.  Fooled them to perfection. Now compare that to the way Adam Gase and Matt Burke utilize our best pass rusher, Cameron Wake.   Half the time, they have him on the bench, which is a huge mistake to begin with.  When he does play, he lines up in essentially the same exact spot every singleRead More →

Nuff said. congratulations to former Dolphins Jay Ajayi, Donnie Jones, Dannell Ellerbee, and of course Doug Pedersen. Jay Ajayi becoming a Super Bowl champion has to be the ultimate insult he could possibly send Adam Gase’s way.  Now every single Dolphin hopes Gase punishes the same way he punished JayRead More →

One of the many things that the NFL does wrong with the Super Bowl is taking away from the championship game itself.    For example, halftime is 12 minutes long.   It is not just a guess, but set in stone in the the league’s official rules.  Except when the NFL is trying to turn a game into a spectacle, then suddenly the 12 minutes becomes over an hour long, so millennial fans can fawn over Justin Timberlake. I have no problem with the special commemorative coins they use for the coin toss, or the fossils they drag out to be honorary captains, etc.   All ofRead More →

There was a play in the Pro Bowl where Alex Smith hit Jarvis Landry on a long bomb.   Wasn’t the play of the game, and it wasn’t overly dramatic in the annals of NFL history.   But yet it showed me something. Landry lined up outside, and when the ball was snapped, he sprinted straight ahead.  He blew past his defender and caught the ball for a gain of 50 yards.  he did not run five yardds across the middle.   He did not stay in place and wait for a screen pass.  He ran the most simple route in the NFL. In the past two years,Read More →

It looks like Matt Patricia will become Detroit’s head coach next year.  So even though he will finally be out of the AFC East, we still have to face him. Lucky for us, we get to play the strong NFC North next season.  Which means tough games in Green Bay and Minneapolis, and home games with Detroit and Chicago.  We have a chance against Chicago, but that’s about it. More good news:  We also have to face Jon Gruden.  It just keeps getting better and better for the Dolphins, doesn’t it?   Every team goes out and makes themselves stronger by acquiring championship coaches, while theRead More →

Another day, another team who helps the Patriots. Doug Marrone is the latest dolt of a coach to think that 14 whole points was good enough.  He thought 14 points was high enough, so it was safe to play prevent defense and three-and-out offense.  He thought the refs would call at least one, just one, penalty on New England’s offense or defense.  He thought wrong. I’m embarrassed that I praised Marrone’s intelligence yesterday.  Embarrassed that this guy was coached by Don Shula and then went out and made sooooo many mistakes. Remember right before halftime?   The Jags had an opportunity to run the clock downRead More →

Once again, the entire world outside of Boston will be rooting against the Patriots.  Does Jacksonville have what it takes?  I think not.  However, what the players lack in skill set, their coaching makes up for with grit and smarts and experience.  Former Dolphin Doug Marrone leads the Jaguars, and I guarantee you that he’s smart enough to study how easily the Dolphins beat New England last month, rather than studying what Pittsburgh and Tennessee, among others, did wrong.  You beat a bully by punching them in the face, not by trying to be cute. In the NFC, it’s a battle of a couple ofRead More →
