Corona delays notwithstanding, the “legal” free agency period is here. It’s sort of official as of right now, but not officially official until Wednesday. Anyway, not much to cover yet, but we can begin our comments and discussion now as it looks like Miami will be signing FA guard Ereck Flowers and FA end Shaq Lawson.Read More →
The Dolphins ended an era in releasing Reshad Jones this week. Despite his frequent injury and his career-long penchant for talking about how good he was and how much money he should earn, he was an impactful player for the most part. Jonesey is the latest casualty of the bizarre world of the Dolphins. Yes, I know it’s early, but this is not the way to rebuild. You want to get younger, so you get rid of 22-year old All Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick and 25-year old All Pro Laremy Tunsil. You want to save all your money so that you can afford to re-sign yourRead More →
The new CBA is in the hands of the players now to vote on, and several prominent multi-millionaires (Ooops, I mean players) are balking at it. Vocal multi-millionaires such as Maurkice Pouncey, JJ Watt, and Russell Wilson are against it. There are two main changes. First, the season would be 17 games long (4 or 5 games if you’re JJ Watt, who always gets hurt). Second, the playoffs would have 14 teams instead of twelve. Only the TOP seed (not top 2) in each conference would get a first-round bye. I’m not opposed to either of those provisions, although I prefer to keep the seasonRead More →
As you all probably have seen the last few weeks, there is no news anywhere in the football world. (Except maybe that the XFL started again, but the rules are so ridiculous, I lost interest after 20 minutes. The local reporters have told us for two years that the Dolphins are taking Tua. But now they’re switching to a variety of alternatives to cover themselves for the inevitable if/when Miami picks someone else. All of a sudden now–out of the blue and with no truth–they’re saying that the Phins love Justin Herbert the most now. It went from Tua to Burrow to Herbert in theRead More →
The danger of winning some truly meaningless games in December is unfolding before us. The San Diego Chargers need a quarterback. They pick AFTER the Dolphins, but they could easily trade up and move ahead of us. If they want Tua, the possibility is there. If the Dolphins value Justin Herbert more, then it’s not a big deal. Let the Chargers THINK we want Tua in order to force them to trade, and then pick Herbert anyway. Sweet! It’s really intriguing how this will play out. The Dolphins had some good drafts lately under Chris Grier, and we need one more. Christian WilkinsRead More →
The NFL announced that the Jaguars will play not one, BUT TWO, “home” games in Europe this season. Owner Shahid Khan is even worse than Ross. Much like Ross, Khan feels that he is in the entertainment business. In addition to fielding an uncompetitive NFL team, Khan also owns a pro wrestling company. He just tosses money around wherever he feels like, instead of focusing his passion on his NFL team. Sound familiar? Now for the bad news. Very bad: This would be laughable, except for a possibility that I think will occur and you heard it here first…I think the Dolphins will now have toRead More →
Just some thoughts here in no particular order. I think being the host of the Super Bowl was Stephen Ross’s dream. He poured sooooooo much heart and soul and his own money into making yesterday’s spectacle a grand entertainment showcase. Unfortunately, it shows how off-base his aims are. If only he put that much effort into the Miami Dolphins, instead of the grand showmanship. How often do you see Robert Kraft out there begging the league to bring a Super Bowl to Boston? Our Damien Williams should have been MVP. While Patrick Mahomes was missing wide open receivers and throwing interceptions for most ofRead More →
My heart says Kansas City (and Matt Moore, Damien Williams). But my gut says the 49ers will win. For the rest if my life, I will despise Kyle Shanahan and the way he blew a 25-point lead to the hated Patriots in the Super Bowl. Even this week, Shanahan accepts no blame (“You won’t understand why I called the plays I did. They were the right calls.) Really? How about calling a couple of handoffs and walking away with the title? Anyway, the Chiefs seems to have no D lately. Even when they win, they give up a lot of points. Read More →
I’ve said a million times…I’d rather hear a coach say “No Comment” rather than lie to our faces. I would have no problem with Nick Saban ditching the Dolphins if he didn’t lie to our faces all season long and say it was not gonna happen. I’d have no problem with Bill Parcells trading Jason Taylor if he had not promised to never do so. I wouldn’t mind if Stephen Ross admitted he was a disinterested NY businessman instead of saying he’s a Dolphin fan and then undermining the team. When it comes to Dolphin management, the long journey of dishonesty has gone on forRead More →
Yes! Please take him! His D gave up 35 points to the lowly Bengals. Good riddance. Meanwhile, Good Luck to Ryan Tannehill. Looking good early.Read More →
Thanks to Reader Mike. I thought the announcement was later, but he decided already. I don’t think Tua will last until the 5th spot. Let’s assume the Bengals take Burrow #1. That leaves the Skins, Lions, and Giants. The consensus is that none of those three teams need a QB, let alone Tua. I DISAGREE. The Cardinals last year proved that you can have a new QB with some upside (Josh Rosen) and simply give up on him if you feel a newcomer is better. Tua and Burrow seem a lot better than Kyler Murray, so this same thing could happen again. I guarantee youRead More →
I forgot to mention a few things in my post-game Bengals report, which I attended live. First, before the game, I was watching the warmups and all that. Bengals DC Lou Anarumo (former Dolphins DB coach and eventually interim DC) went over to the Dolphins side and was received warmly by some of the vets. I think it was Reshad Jones who gave him a nice hug. Pre-game handshakes are not uncommon, but Lou stuck around for about 10 full minutes. I also saw Fitz and Andy Dalton having a nice long talk before the game. I wonder if they were saying, “Hey, we shouldRead More →
The Dolphins hired Chan Gailey today as our new offensive coordinator. I’m not opposed to this hiring, but I wish it had come a year sooner. A year ago, I was harping on the fact that Ross should have ordered inexperienced Brian Flores to hire a veteran OC. He sorta kinda did that in Jim Caldwell, who couldn’t make it through the season due to health concerns. So now we have Chan Gailey, who definitely brings the experience. I don’t question Gailey’s credentials, but I’m still at a loss for why Chad O’Shea was just dismissed. We just won two games in a row andRead More →
Thoughts on the win? Thoughts on 2020 draft? Seems like we will need a cornerback for the first 4 games next year, or possibly the whole season. Fellas…if your girlfriend yells at you, just walk away. Let her spit on you, and cheat on you, and hit you, and steal your money…but just walk away without hitting her. Jeez! Very very unsure and not to pleased that Chad O’Shea was just fired. His offense is responsible for all 5 of our wins. His defense did not give up 35 to the lowly Bengals. This makes no sense to me. We were on the rise withRead More →
As some of you know, I went to the Bengal game last Sunday. It was great to meet reader Sean and his family. I will admit right off the bat, that I left at the 2-minute warning. I thought a 16-point lead with 120 seconds left was a safe lead, but what do I know? I decided to jot down my experiences Sunday and over the years, and ask you guys about your live experiences. Missing Announcers. I’ve never enjoyed live sports as much as on TV. I appreciate the analysis and the replays and the explanations. Sitting in a stadium watching the refs huddleRead More →
In the past few days, I’ve seen several articles about how you have to try to win in the NFL. Chris Grier said that tanking is impossible. Brian Flores says you must always play to win the game at all costs. These gentlemen, who are in charge of the future of our organization, are dead wrong. The question is… are they lying—which means they’re being wrong on purpose—or are they simply ignorant and not paying attention to the rest of the NFL? Sadly, I think they are utterly ignorant and unaware. And with the most extremely disinterested and unaware owner in the history of sportsRead More →
Make no mistake about it. Brian Flores did tremendous damage to the future of the Miami Dolphins today. His arrogance and shortsighted attitude have all but ruined everything the 2019 Dolphins set out to do. He won a game win in which there is no reward for winning…but a huge reward for losing. It’s simple common sense that the future of this organization is better off suffering some meaningless losses this year. Our coach, I hate to say, simply lacks that common sense. Sorry, but I have to be blunt. Dolphin management set out to buy Flores a brand new Porsche in 2020. However,Read More →
