Dolphins Truth

In news that has been predicted for days, Kiko Alonso has been traded.   The Dolphins will receive LB Vince Biegel from the Saints.  Admittedly, I don’t know much about Biegel, but this trade needed to be made, as Kiko was showing signs of discontent. As Flyerfinfan correctly pointed out, Kiko was beaten out of a starting job fair and square.  And apparently he didn’t like it.  He started whining and demanding a trade. Here are my instant memories of Kiko: 1.  He won the Chargers game 3 years ago with a pick-6 against Philip Rivers with about a minute left in the game.   Behind theRead More →

The Dolphins finally had enough of Kenny Stills’ distractions and sent him to Houston.  As part of the same trade, Laremy Tunsil is gone. The happiest man today?  The doctor who performs ACL surgeries on QBs, because Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen are dead men walking.   Some Miami area surgeons are gonna get a lot of work ! Apparently, the Dolphins received TWO first-round picks, plus a second-rounder as well.   That is 3 quality picks for some guys who have never been to a Pro Bowl.   Even the Dolphins can’t louse that up, can they?   This is on par with the Cowboys getting rid ofRead More →

It’s been a long time…probably my entire life…since I cared this little about a Dolphins game, preseason or otherwise.  I’ll watch and I’ll try to analyze who’s looking good and who should be cut (e.g., DeVante Parker), but there doesn’t seem to be any passion with this team.  There’s not a single player I’m excited to study tonight.  No drama about who will make the team and who won’t. For example, would it shock you if Kiko Alonso got cut?  Would it surprise you if he made the team?  Would you be upset either way?   I answer NO to all three of those, and itRead More →

TJ McDonald didn’t do much of anything, so I can see him getting cut. But now Akeem Spence?   Our ONLY d-lineman worth a damn (and at a cheap price too).  It’s beginning to look a lot like they truly are going to tank this year on purpose.  i really liked Spence.  Quiet and productive and loyal. But guess what?  Even if we get the #1 overall pick next year and draft a stud QB…we have already purged a bunch of good players, especially on defense.  Plus, we still have no line to protect a new QB.  In other words, we could have the best QBRead More →

I wish I could trust our coaching staff to know the right move as to who should be our week 1 starter at QB, but not a single person on this staff has any experience choosing players, starters, personnel, etc.  Jim Caldwell might have been quite helpful in this regard, but we all know he’s gone.  So now it’s up to the gang of inexperienced assistants, and they are in a lose-lose situation. If Fitz starts and excels, then we will have wasted a 2nd round pick to bring Rosen in.  If Fitz bombs and we go with Rosen, then why have we wasted millionsRead More →

So this week, the Dolphins were in the news again because Minkah Fitzpatrick’s mom mouthed off (correctly so) about her son being played out of position.  It’s pretty sad when an old lady knows more about coaching that our alleged professional staff.   Just like when Miko Grimes wasn’t really off base in her analyses.  These ladies are loud and vocal, bit they make strong points. I liked the olden days better, when Channing Crowder’s mom challenged Rex Ryan to a fistfight.  Now that was lighthearted and cool! Anyway, Kenny Stills was also in the news again, and hopefully the issues with him and Stephen RossRead More →

Nothing really matters in pre-season, so let’s get that right out in the open.  Yet despite that, some things become noticeable, if not meaningful. Our new defensive line looked horrendous.  In a normal pre-season game, you don’t read into it too much.  However, I must point out that our STARTING defensive line stayed in the game until the 4th quarter.   So our boys were getting shoved aside by Atlanta’s 4th and 5th stringers.  Guys who will be working construction in a few weeks were getting the best of Christian Wilkins.  Charles Harris, as usual, was a non factor.   The other guys?  Invisible as well. (OnRead More →

Like perfect clockwork, the Dolphins are in the news again for non-football reasons. Kenny Stills is angry about how Stephen Ross spends his money. Meanwhile, the Patriots owner spends money in a Jupiter strip mall, and every single Patriot shuts their hole. How will this one play out?Read More →

Every single year it seems, without fail, we hear the same old stories in Dolphins camp that we don’t necessarily hear from other teams. This time around, it’s the usual July-August stories about all the Dolphins who are under the radar. I’ve barely heard a word about first-round pick Christian Wilkins.  Our star QB, Josh Rosen, is under-performing and not making any notable strides.   So our two star acquisitions are floundering away, but we keep hearing about the undrafted rookies. Same old tale from Dolphinsland, every year. Undrafted discards WR Preston Williams and OG  Deion Calhoun are apparently mesmerizing coaches in practice.   It’s a niceRead More →

One of the best.  Deservedly in the Hall of Fame. I love this shot of him arguing with Bill Arnsbarger (defensive coordinator with headset, standing between Shula and the mustache dude) and how Shula seems to be listening.  Shula took in what his intelligent players had to say and adjusted.Read More →

Citing a health issue, Jim Caldwell has “stepped back” from his role of assistant head coach and will now be merely a consultant. As I always say, there is no good news that ever comes out of June or July, and this is bad news. First, Caldwell is the ONLY member of the Dolphin staff with any semblance of experience.  He’s been coaching for years, including head coaching jobs.  5 years ago, he was a football coach while Brian Flores was an assistant to a regional personnel specialist, i.e., a desk job in an office. Second, he was seen as a real QB guru, andRead More →

There’s been nothing but nothing to write about.  Not even a rumor. But like I’ve said for years, this time of year, no news is good news.   If there’s a Dolphin story in June or July, it usually only means someone got arrested or else someone blew out their ACL. By the way, Dion Jordan got suspended again in May.    Jonathan Martin quit.   Now there’s a couple of impressive Dolphin draft picks, eh?Read More →

So, Reshad Jones is an intriguing guy. He skipped last month’s voluntary team workouts but did report to the mandatory practices that began today.  He said he skipped the May sessions because “voluntary means voluntary.”   Um, okay. He’s a skilled player and, personally, I think he’s our best DB.  Yes, Xavien Howard has improved, but Jones is more reliable and steady…until he isn’t.  I cannot and won’t forget the game last year when Jones REFUSED to go into the game when they asked him to.  Jones likes to run his mouth about all the Pro Bowls he’s been to, but he remains mum on whyRead More →

Well, he’s back in the NFL, just not with the Dolphins. Richie has signed on with the Oakland Raiders, who I suspect will get something out of him.  I always hoped that he would come back to Miami after accepting a massive apology from Stephen Ross.  But I don’t think that’s gonna happen! Whether it’s Richie or Tyreek Hill or Colin Kaepernick or Ray Rice, ..what are your thoughts on signing some of the NFL’s controversial bad boys?  Read More →

Senorise Perry, a backup Dolphin running back for several seasons, is now on the Bills.  Perry is a little-used substitute on an awful team in a city with zero sports titles.  This part isn’t newsworthy.  No one cares. So why the news?  Perry has chosen to wear #32.   The Bills have not allowed anyone to wear that number since The Juice left Buffalo in the late 1970s.   It’s a pretty ballsy move for Perry to request that number.   Gotta give him credit. Perry, along with 2018 leading Dolphin rusher Frank Gore, are both in the Bills’ backfield this season. Despite OJ’s legal claims to fame,Read More →

So we’ll be a taking a bit of a hiatus for the first few weeks in May. I’ll leave everything up and running so you guys can talk about all things Dolphins. It’s encouraging to see that we’re all on the same page about Josh Rosen having some potential.   Some are more enthusiastic than others, but at least the enthusiasm and anticipation is there.   It’s been quite a while for that.  No one is saying “Rosen and Fitzpatrick both suck.  We should traded away the farm to draft Kyler Murray.”  It’s nice that we all seem to agree. Enjoy, and keep on chatting…Read More →
