This week, the Dolphins faced some media scrutiny again, as former Dolphins writer Jason Cole wrote that Laremy Tunsil had a a bad ankle. The Dolphins denied it, of course. All you need to know about Jason Cole can be summed up here: In 2011, Cole reported, AS FACT, that Jim Harbaugh had been hired as Dolphins’ coach. He didn’t report a speculation or a rumor or use any iffy language. He said it as fact, and he stated it was aRead More →
When NBC’s Pro Football Talk recently published an interview with Jonathan Martin, we knew we were in for an opinionated, biased account of Martin’s worldview right from the get go. The very first sentence called Martin a “victim,” which told us all we needed to know about how one-sided and dishonest the article would be. For some reason, a school had Martin come in to talk to 7th graders. Why on earth would a school do this? What can Martin possibly talk about? Quitting? Getting cut? Being traded for next to nothing? What else does he bring to the table? Right off theRead More →
So Laremy Tunsil has signed his contract, and the possibility of a long protracted holdout is averted. So far, he is behaving and saying all the right things, and acting all the right ways. We should all be grateful that both Tunsil and his agent have the wisdom to just sign the deal asap and start collecting their millions. Head Coach Adam Gase did away with Rookie Training Camp this year and instead replaced it with Rookie Classwork. As has been reported in various media outlets, Gase apparently didn’t think that these young players needed to practice NFL football. Instead, he wanted toRead More →
So it’s time to review the 2016 draft from last week, now that the dust has settled and I am over my grieving period about the loss of Jamar Taylor. So first up is Laremy Tunsil. Right off the bat, we get a taste of controversy, due to the infamous mask-bong video. But once the smoke cleared (pun fully intended), we find ourselves with a helluva player. I took some time to digest this pick. His football skills qualified him to be the top overall pick. That’s a consensus from every single draft analyst out there. We got perhaps the bestRead More →
I cannot wait for Laremy Tunsil to face off in practice against Dion Jordan. It will be my greatest blog post ever that day! Can’t wait to write captions for that photo! But seriously, folks…I was up half the night following every story I could on Laremy Tunsil, and every minute that went by seemed to be a new development. Shockingly, the apologists were out as well, making their case that it’s only pot, so no big deal (more on those fools later). The main story, as we all must know, is that the Dolphins have generated yet another negative media stormRead More →
First I was afraid of drafting this: Now we got THIS? Sweet lord! Dion Jordan’s hobbies are contagious. When will we EVER learn. Read More →
Unless he cries and whines his way to the courts (again), Tom Brady will miss the week 2 game against the Dolphins. This means, in theory, that the Dolphins have their first chance to win a game in Foxboro since the advent of the Wildcat. As I’ve stated many times, the courts are not deciding on Brady’s guilt or innocence. Rather, the courts are deciding whether the commissioner has the right to punish players. Of course he does. Everyone knows this. But last year the Patriots took their chances with a liberal judge and got their way. This year, they metRead More →
The NFL is releasing the schedule TONIGHT! Usually the league announces the schedule-release date weeks in advance and advertises and promotes it like crazy. This year, no dice. Luckily, I heard about this and confirmed with the league. Tonight at 8 Eastern, we will learn when the Dolphins play, any MNF games, SNF games, TNF games, etc. We know the Dolphins play in L.A. this year, for example, and tonight we learn when. Could be the first game of the year, as I imagine the NFL will want to give the new L.A. Rams a splendid home opener. The Dolphins are no longer aRead More →
The good news is that Stephen Ross has a successor in place, and a new owner can’t come fast enough. The bad news is that the new owner, who would take over upon Ross’s death–and who also has the first right to buy the team from Ross any time he is alive—is another New York City businessman. More than likely a Jet fan like Ross. His name is Bruce Beal. Ross’s people also insisted that he has no plans to sell the team. But in naming a successor, at least the plans are in place if he changes his mind. The way the deal worksRead More →
No, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. (Although when I learned the Dolphins just re-signed Daniel Thomas again, I thought someone was fooling me). Instead, we want to seriously consider just how good the Dolphins can. be. That’s CAN be. As in “might” be. No guarantees, no predictions. Just possibilities. Let’s start with new head coach Adam Gase. I was not in favor of this hiring, and I’ve stated many reasons why. Just because people around the NFL think a guy will be a good head coach, doesn’t make it so. Just ask Clueless Joe Philbin. However, since we’re focusing onRead More →
Stephen Ross continues his trend of being all things to all endeavors. In the last 48 hours alone, here’s what he’s been up to: He is really pushing his new soccer league and games in Miami, even though no one cares about soccer. He continues to do the City of Miami’s job of attracting a Super Bowl, as if Ross himselfRead More →
The Dolphins today signed veteran guard Kraig Urbik to a free agent deal that might help the team with some toughness and grit. Urbik is 30 years old and has played for several NFL teams, including division rival Buffalo. I would suspect he’ll come in as a backup, but we have to assume that head coach Adam Gase will give him a fair chance to beat out Dallas Thomas at the guard spot. As I’ve noted in the past, I like the idea of guards playing guard, so this could be a decent signing, instead of asking a tackle to play guard and just assumeRead More →
The Dolphins have signed DE Andre Branch, which furthers their trend of signing players (albeit good players) at positions we don’t really need. I don’t know about you, but it seems like every other free agent we sign has been a defensive end. I know depth is important, but DE is a position where a lot of depth is not needed on any team. Offensive linemen, on the other hand, require a lot of depth. And we ain’t got no depth. Perhaps Adam Gase, the offensive genius we keep hearing about, will devote most of the draft to picking up CBs and O guards. It would beRead More →
Our friends at the Phinsiders are at it again, with another hilarious article that makes them look like it’s written by 7-year-olds. Today’s article covers the Dolphins’ pursuit of DE Chris Clemons, and if they sign Clemons, according to the Phinsiders, then that mean Cameron Wake could become a pass-rush specialist. So by implication, Wake is not a pass rusher now. We have to sign Clemons first, and THEN Wake can become a pas rusher. LOL I guess the Phinsiders believer that Wake is a wide receiver or think he’s a punter. True Dolfans know that Wake is a monster pass rusherRead More →
Who’s in? Isa Quddus, Safety/DB Byron Maxwell, CB Mario Williams, DE Kiko Alonso, LB A Number 13 overall pick Who’s out? Brent Grimes (cut) Miko Grimes Olivier Vernon (Giants) Lamar Miller (Texans) A Number 8 overall pick My first analysis of all these moves is that the Dolphins did some decent damage control in areas where they knew damage was coming. They got out in front of the Grimes cut byRead More →
The NFL year doesn’t officially begin until Wednesday, March 9, so nothing can be set in stone yet. However, deals can still be made (but not officially announced) earlier. I was waiting until things became official, but it seems like everyone else is reporting it, so here goes: So we’ve learned the the Dolphins are acquiring a couple of position-needed players from the Eagles: LB Kiko Alonso and DB Byron Maxwell. As most media sites are reporting, both Alonso and Maxwell had poor years last season, especially given their high salaries. But a new home in a new environment often leads to a newRead More →
As if we were still living in the Philbin era, a Dolphin player spoke up and gave his opinion, and a week later he as cut. The main difference is that the player here is a bench player, Greg Jennings. As you may know, a short while ago Jennings gave some less-than-stellar opinions on Ryan Tannehill and now finds himself unemployed. The good news is that it saves the Dolphins money and that Jennings was not effective last season, albeit with limited opportunities. So no great loss. But there may be some bad news too. The wide receiver corps last year made vast improvements. Read More →
