Not too many outright surprises over the weekend, but a few moves that made us go “Hmmm.” The first thing that caught my attention ( and I mildly disagree with this move) was that the Dolphins kept WR Matt Hazel.  Management explained that Hazel played well in the pre-season and deserved the roster spot. I agree that he played well.  But so did Mike Hull. I’ll say this right off the bat:    I don’t see how Damien Williams is ranked higher on the depth chart than LaMike James and Mike Gillislee. Tom Brady whining and crying and appealing means bad news for the Dolphins. A few months after Patriot  liar owner Robert Kraft said that the Patriots would accept whatever fate the NFL handed them, Tom Brady’s whining got his suspension erased.   And that’s bad news for Miami. Brandon Fields, who was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013, then got a HUGE raise, and then rewarded the Dolphins by having his worst season ever, has been cut. The normally reliable Fields blew too many punts last year, making this decision a little easier. I don’t mind that the Dolphins cut him.  Let’s hope the new rookie does just as well. Like a pest who just won’t go away, Jonathan Martin continues to make news. Two years after he quit on the Miami Dolphins. A year after the 49ers got rid of him. A month after he quit on the Panthers. Somehow, this serial quitter still makes news. It’s very rare that Dolphins Truth posts two articles in a row about such a similar topic, but the incessant praise for the Dolphins first-team offense just won’t stop. Again, I don’t know what these other “experts” are seeing, but it sure isn’t a high-quality dominant and unstoppable offense. It’s no secret that Joe Philbin is the worst coach in the NFL.  During Saturday’s game at Carolina, he proved it once again. Rather than than accept a second and goal from the Carolina 2-inch line, Philbin instead made a move to give the Panthers the ball at their own 20. Philbin keeps his mouth shut, and the Dolphins go up 21-0.  Philbin tries to be cute, and we lose the game. The Bears’ scrub players are better than ours. The media is REALLY over-hyping our first-string offense.   Yes, they scored on a nice opening drive, but it wasn’t smooth.  We had first and goal and the Bears stopped us three plays in a row. Then a Bear penalty gave us another third down.   Wasted. What should we expect from tonight’s “game” against the Bears?   In a word:  nothing. Seriously, you have to go into these games knowing that they are a glorified practice session, rather than a true contest of who can score the most points.   If the Dolphins win or lose, that doesn’t matter of course. I don’t know about other Dolphin fans, but when I read about how practices are going, the only thing I’m looking for is if anyone tore an ACL or blew out a knee that day. Not much else matters. Do we care if some undrafted 15th-string wide receiver made a nice catch of a Mcleod Thompson pass against a bunch of ham-and-egger defenders who won’t be on the team this season? A few random thoughts for us all to ponder… A few days ago, the Dolphins announced that they’d be wearing their throwback uniforms from the 1960s. The colors were aqua and orange, not stupid powder blue.  The Dolphin on the helmet was upright and majestic, proudly wearing his M helmet.    The Dolphin is in the middle of the sun, jumping in front of it.  (Trivia:   There used to be 2 teams whose logo included a helmet on their helmet.   The Dolphins were one, but now only one remains…?) Let’s not kid ourselves.  The New England Patriots ARE Tom Brady.  They will lose at least 3 of the 4 games without him, and more than likely all four. The bad news is that none of those four games are against Miami.  Why couldn’t we play N.E. in weeks 1, 2, 3, or 4? In Week One, the Patriots will lose to Pittsburgh.   That means Pittsburgh will be 1-0 and already 1-0 in an AFC game.  At the end of the year, that AFC record is hugely important. Let’s hope the geniuses at Harvard are right. In a new scientific and mathematical study of the upcoming 2015 NFL season, scientists at Harvard analyzed a mind-numbing amount of data and determined that the Miami Dolphins will be in the Super Bowl. Former Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Bill Arnsbarger has passed away.   He was a genius. plain and simple.  No other way to describe what he did. He inherited a laughing stock defense under Don Shula, and in just a few short years had them playing in three Super Bowls in a row, winning the last two. He built the no-name defense and rode them to the championships.  When Bob Griese broke his leg, the Dolphins defense had to rise to a new level in 1972, they did so under Arnsbarger.
