Well, the worst-kept secret in NFL history lingered on for another week, with the Dolphins unable to hire–let alone discuss–new coach Brian Flores.
Most of the good assistants and coordinators are already taken, meaning Flores will have slim pickings to join his staff. Meaning, we’ll get his friends and inexperienced buddies, a la Adam Gase, This is unwise on many levels.
Oh, and here’s a great article that takes an in-depth look at Brian Flores’ defenses, his play designs, his football I.Q. Take a second to read this article. It gives you a really great idea about why Chris Grier hired him: https://sports.yahoo.com/rise-brian-flores-042515678.html

Adam Gase: Internet, TV is “pollution of the brain”

Gase is the nut-job equivalent of that pasty white Nazi Stephen Miller in the WH. Look at them!
Easy, Karma. Deep breaths.
LOL! You’re completely right about leftovers as far as quality folks for the coord. positions and assistant coaches. At least we will have 90 y.o. Caldwell onboard to tell stories from his rocker.Kidding-I think he will be valuable to the 30+ y.o. Tom Flores wannabe.
Did you read the article I linked to? Obviously I was being sarcastic when I noted the article talks about Flores’ defensive game planning. In truth, it’s an article on his inner-city childhood, something Ross obviously cherishes far more than experience and proven skills.
Yes I read it but I’m more interested in the 2nd tier of coaches and coords. we’re stuck with. Ross is beyond hope after x-amount of years as a quality NFL owner. There is no hope for him to change his colors. The carcass rots from the head, down. Every time we talk about about something, anything positive about this team,it’s always qualified with,”In spite of’. Fill in the “in spite of” blank with, front office, coach, coord., owner,Tranny, ect.
I went on record as saying that Jim Caldwell is a good hire to run our offense (que the New Zealand rugby jokes here). But then 10 minutes later, they say Caldwell will only be an adviser, and the true offensive coordinator will be a younger guy (i.e., INEXPERIENCED). So even when we do hire decent men with head coaching experience, we relegate them to babysitting.
I don’t think we can jump to conclusions on what Caldwell’s job will exactly be based off the title of his position. Sounds crazy but in Miami position titles don’t mean much. Gase was head coach who was really offensive coordinator, Tannenbaum was VP of football operation but really acted like a GM. Grier was supposed to be the GM but really was more of a scout. And offensive coordinators are hot commodities right now so if Caldwell is the OC and Miami’s offense gets better next year maybe he leaves for a head coach job. Hiring a young guy will allow him to grow with Flores and be mentored by Caldwell. Miami is also thinking of bringing in the former Wisconsin Badger coach Brett Bielema to run the defense which I like.
I can agree with 90% of your logic there…except I am really really against the notion of “will allow him to grow with Flores” Why not get a guy who’s already grown and paid his dues?
But you are right, we have to wait and see how it plays out. If the offense improves, then I don’t care who runs the show. Improvement and wins are the only things that matter
Will the offense improve with either of the F Boys if Tranny is gone?. I think not. Maybe with Bilgewater but I doubt he comes here.
Karma I got to think any of the available QBs could throw more long balls to Stills per game than Tannehill tried all year plus I doubt any coach associated with Bill Belicheks inner circle is so obtuse they don’t run Amandola on a slant three to five times per drive!
.
Just that would be a huge offensive improvement over what we have seen Tannahill do!
I agree and the absolute highlight of next season is both Jets games for me,moreso than usual. BTW,ANY QB is more likely to change a play at the LOS than Tranny. You know,a REAL QB.
Miami’s offense was 31st I believe which was the worst in franchise history. It really can’t get much worse. With drake Gore and Ballage even an average offensive mind could of gotten much more especially with Amendola and Stills as well.
Some disagree, but our skill position players match up with anyone in the league minus Quarterback.
Bring in a new QB, shuffle around the O-line by adding some behemoth, and get a SMART play caller, and we can win games. Keeping a series alive has to be the top priority. We have 3 plays to gain 10 measly yards. Gase’s logic was that we had one play to gain 70 yards. Flawed logic.
As Karma mentioned the Jets games are going to take on so much more meaning! I may even tun in to the Jets if they play a different time slot then the Dolphins just to watch Gase being outsmarted week after week!
I can agree with this but if they go with Falk or Ossweiler they most likely will take a step back unless Falk surprises us all.
Hey, I’m gonna try to have a live chat during the AFC championship. hope you guys can join in.
Great Thank you very much that will be a lot of fun!
I think Gase will have learned some lessons come opening day 2019.
He might force himself to hire experienced staff, and not his pals. He might take an interest in the defensive side of the game. Etc.
However, what he won’t learn or change is his playcalling. The predictable plays will still be there. He’ll know that the Dolphins D will expect it, so he’ll change things up and over-complicate matters. He’s all finesse and will not admit he’s wrong
WHOEVER the coach is, bec. at this point, I don’t give a krap, the two games he needs to bullseye on his calendar are Jets @ Dolphins and Dolphins @ Jets! After that, the rest of the games I’ll take however they pan out. Those games for all Dolphins fans are marquis! It’s not even to beat the Jets, which of course is the goal, but to shove two losses down Gases’s throat and make him swallow his arrogance…but who am I kidding, it’s always about beating the Jets! Enemy #1. But you almost have to feel sorry for those dudes, but who am I kidding, no one felt sorry for the Dolphins! OK-I’m having a moment!
