Remember in school, when you asked a question, and your teacher would reply, “I don’t know.  I have to learn.  I have to get better.”

No, that never happened.  Ever.  To any of us.  Teachers are not hired to learn.

But Brian Flores does not believe that.  He is perfectly willing and able to give jobs to his inexperienced friends so that they can learn along the way.  And, sadly, (and it’s embarrassing), they admit it.  All 3 of our coordinators make mistake after mistake, and they “apologize” by admitting, “I need to learn and get better.”   That is, they don’t apologize at all.  This interview below with Coordinator #1 (or is he a #2) Eric Studesville made my blood boil.

I wouldn’t mind if he ended it with “It was a horrible call,” but instead he tries to justify it and hindsight it and then says my favorite words from a leader. “We have to learn and grow.”

Professional leaders and professional athletes are at the pinnacle.  They should NOT have to learn.  They should not have to grow.

  1. I never understood why they went from a mediocre offense under a veteran OC to two “rookie OC’s” trying to put it together instead. I think our DC is fine quite honestly. No coordinator will make the right call 100% of the time but the problems on defense are more often than not the amount of time they are on the field in my opinion. They aren’t an elite defense but they would be “good enough” if we had a competent offense. It’s been a long time since we had that and expecting inexperienced co-OC’s to get us there seemed like a very odd choice.

Flores has pointed out some of the big Raider plays were because our guys were not in their proper gaps. If so, it shows a lot of ignorance and lack of teamwork. Just do your job, guys.

Show of hands: How many times did Don Shula or Bill Belichick allow their coordinators to say, “I’m still learning. I’ll get better.” I know it’s just a phrase. I know it’s just semantics. But seriously, this is a team we love and have devoted our sports fandom to for decades, and instead of seasoned, experienced professionals, we get guys who ADMIT they need to learn how to call plays. And Flores allows this. Ross allows Flores to allow this.

  3. The two OC’s may not know what they are doing, but I am sure they get Participation Awards, yay!

  4. The title should be a final rant about Flores for this week, more to come…

I’m hoping for (and I think it’s very possible) an easier week vs. the Colts. They have solid coaching, but the roster is a mess. We’re the opposite. I think things will settle down Sunday and we get the win.

  5. Admin, I do enjoy when you go postal! You rant for me and many of us here. Why is it that we haven’t had a top QB in a billion years? Why can’t we put together players who every week surprise us how good they are? Are we destined to always be a bridesmaid never a Bride? There is little passion from the owner for this team, he has more time for other things and it’s apparent. He likes to think he’s all in but he has shown no credibility that makes me feel this organization has an owner who will stop at nothing to make them better. I can’t count on any win right now…I’m worried when we play the Jets bec. no matter how bad they are, they are ready to play Miami like they are 11-0! The talent needs to be better evaluated bec. whoever is doing it isn’t looking at what they need to.

The big picture involving ownership, general manager, and head coach involves many things behind the scenes, making it hard to blame anyone accurately. Who was the final decision-maker that said we need to trade up to take Jaylen Waddle, for example? I won’t blame anyone specifically for this failed decision, because we just don’t know who is to blame. But where the blame CAN be pinpointed, I do focus on that. I rant about it, if you will. Horrendous playcalling is ALWAYS the playcaller’s fault. But then again, you can also blame the head coach who shows confidence in an inexperienced and unqualified coordinator. And I’m sorry…but I think “unqualified” is a fair word. You have to compare our joker coordinators to other coordinators around the NFL. Look at Gus Bradley working for Gruden. His play calls won the Raiders the game. He exploited Flores badly. And he’s a former head coach who has been a leader before. Gruden did not hire professional followers. Flores did.

      1. Admin, it’s the whole organization to blame-if my company makes a big mistake, guess who the Board is going to look at?? It’s starts at the top! This moron owner who some how deflects all blame game needs to be put on the hot coals. He owns the damn team! WHO is the one who decided to trade up for Waddle??? Don’t you want to know? I know I do! The owner, GM, coaches etc., are all responsible for the mess they put on the field and I’m not letting them off the hook….fans deserve to know why this organization that makes the player decisions cannot, has not, is incapable of bringing players the likes of other teams….Why not? I’m ranting and I know it bec. I’ve had it with this management getting a pass on everything they do…it’s time to demand better Dolphin fans…You pay your hard earned money for tickets and you get what??? Sloppy 2’nds!!

  6. What makes my blood boil is the thought that these 2 clown OC’s – are actually getting PAID ! BIG BUCKS ! – to call these horshit plays. Those that are still learning how to do their jobs, while doing it – are called – INTERNS – and most of those – DO NOT GET PAID !

And if you really want to see what pro playcalling actually looks like, watch a Rams game, and you will be amazed how different their offense looks than ours, it’s like comparing their chess to our checkers.

  7. Our starting center is likely going on IR. I line is in shambles!

Yes, Dieter was the steadiest among our linemen. Now someone new has to step up. The Colts are a decent team, but their D isn’t as strong as the Bills or Raiders, so we still have a chance!

  8. Its so sad Im such a debbie downer dolphin fan. That when we just barely made it into overtime. I was pissed because I knew it was just delaying our eventual loss. I walk my talk I told my long time best friend and roomate no to worry we would find a way to lose so his favorite team (The Raiders) could win. And when it comes to losing games that we shouldn’t. Lately the dolphins have never disappointed.

    PhinsUp!

Well, having just tied the game–including a 2-pt conversion at the end of regulation–I thought it came down to the coin toss. Me and Mack Hollins wanted heads, and it was tails. Strike One. Even then, I thought that our defense is good. We’ll just 3-and-out the Raiders and go score. But no. Strike Two. Our defense is dreadfully mediocre, and our offense is worse.
