What a surprise!

‘Tis the season for sports writers and alleged Dolphin experts to recycle the same old articles they published last year.  And the year before.  And the…you get the idea.

It’s not even 48 hours after the Dolphins lost, and already the “news” about Jon Gruden coming to Miami are out there.  The Miami Herald columnists are saying Philbin is gone.  The Phinsider site is copying rumors they dig up on other blogs and repeating it.   (The Phinsider allows people to copy other writers’ material, but they do not allow you to make comments disagreeing with them).

If only Joe Philbin would throw the challenge flag.
If only Joe Philbin would throw the challenge flag.

Since yesterday, you can find rumor-filled articles about Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, Tony Dungy, and even Rex Ryan.  Seriously, this is the same exact rumor mill that pops up every single December around here, and it never ever comes to pass.  When will they learn to stick to the facts?

Dolphins Truth will eventually address all that, and we will certainly weigh in on which gentleman should be our head coach.  But one thing we will not do is take an unconfirmed rumor, and report it as a fact.  Even worse, we will not take someone else’s rumor and place it on our own site as if we were the ones who broke the story.

Sorry, but it angers us to see all these “Philbin is gone” articles that are way too soon.  I’m not saying that Philbin will be around next year.  He certainly deserves to be fired and I hope he is.   But I simply will not post a hypothesis about his job security and spin it into  a fact.

I don’t pretend to have inside information, like my fellow Dolphins writers pretend to.  I mean, even the name “Phinsider” implies that they will give you “insider” information.  But what they really give you is repeated speculation.  And if you critique their speculation, they’ll ban you from the site.

I propose that we all take a deep breath.   Wait for facts to trickle through.  Philbin will be coaching the next two games it seems, so let’s see what happens.

On a side note, I found it personally amusing to hear Philbin lie about his mind-set and his job security.  At his press conference yesterday, the very first question was about his job security and his future in Miami.  Philbin replied with his canned reply about how he does not think about that.  His mind is ONLY concerned about the Vikings.  He hasn’t though at all about his job.

Really, Joe?  Do you want to look millions of Dolfans in the face and tell us that you have not thought about the upcoming consequences?  Maybe Nick Saban wasn’t the biggest liar in Dolphin coaching history after all.

  1. Thanks for using my pic. Seriously consider adding a weekly or bi weekly video segment. And also consider allowing commenters to embed videos here. Maybe there is a way to approve the videos first so as to keep the content relevant. I don’t think it will take much to kick your brand off and the tidal wave of new members will follow. Ive been here since the beginning and Im a better and more informed fan for it. Thanks

You can embed videos…just paste in the Yoube link, and once you click submit, the video will appear to everyone!

    1. Sweet D-Truth. When I get some time I would like to make some short vids with analysis and opinions. I wanna use game footage but know youtube will remove it. Gotta get creative and find a way around it and hopefully without filming the screen which seems the only way that works so far. I am so glad you mentioned the blocked FG in your latest. I just made a pic of the line up I think you will like. Trestman OMG really? He is Philbin but much worse in my opinion that’s probably click bate bs just to lure in readers which is about as bad if infact they are being serious. WOW.

      1. There are other video sites besides YouTube that could house your vids, perhaps. Yeah the NFL will always be on the lookout, but with creative/innocuous titles, maybe they won’t catch a vid on a far-less scrutinized website. Just a thought…

  2. Glad to hear someone calling out the Phinsider. What a lame *ss site! I used to check there years ago when it started, but it got pathetic in a hurry.

Maybe that’s why the Dolphins have let them stick around- they are as harmless as the Dolphins 4th quarter run defense. (At least Alan Poupart makes a few good points while sucking up to the higher ups that sign his checks).

Talk about ridiculous articles- the latest Phinsider Pulitzer winner is some tool advocating for Marc Trestman as our next coach! Seriously, I couldn’t make that up if I tried. For those that know Marc Trestman, they know just how f’ing stupid it is to think this, let alone write a 500 word dissertation on it.

For those who don’t know who Marc Trestman is (Dolphinsgang, I am talking to you) you belong on the Phinsider and should make it your homepage.

I had no issue with the Phinsider until the last couple months, when they started to warn me about analyzing their articles. I haven’t seen the Trestman article yet….I’m afraid to even read it. it has to be a joke.

  3. I agree. Why would we hire Trestman? He may know offense but that Chicago defense is terrible and Cutler has regressed under his watch. We need a dymanic new hire. Somebody like that Helfrich from Oregon. I’d take Harbaugh in a heartbeat though. With the way Ross does business well probably end up with Lane Kiffin.

  4. The Phinsider made an argument for Trestman? Really? That’s preposterous. Well I guess it could have been worse. I mean they could have really been ridiculous and made the argument that our next coach should be somebody like Mike Smith.

  5. Mike Smith was a very good DC in Jax and was D-line and LB coach for the Ravens in early 2000’s (when they had a dominant D).

He got ATL to play very well early in his tenure there. They got old fast and didn’t draft very well. You can’t pin that on him. Any football fan with a half a brain would take Mike Smith over Philbin in a heart beat.

Heck, give me Smith, Kubiak, and Bowles and we’d make the playoffs.

  6. Kubiak and Bowles would be drastic improvements over unit coordinators we’ve had in recent years. Mike Smith did win with better teams in ATL but he may be the only current head coach whose clock management and situational game management skills are as bad as Philbin’s. Maybe. Just watch the last few minutes of the Browns/Falcons game from earlier this season to test this theory out. I live in Louisiana and Saints fans have long loved the fact that he coaches in their division. They feel like as long as he remains coaching the Falcons their have a shot to win the division every year.
