I think we all agree that Clueless Joey P stuck around far too long as our head coach.   DolphinsTruth archives are filled with stories and analysis of all the incorrect decisions this joker made.   From gifting free wins to the opponent to cutting All Pros who we desperately needed, Philbin was the pits.

I often wondered what kept him around.   Why was Stephen Ross so enamored with an old man with zero accomplishments on his resume?    He was a simpleton who was in over his head, and we all knew that.  But he also had a nice, grandfatherly guy, and you felt bad for him during his press conferences when he had to explain how he blew another game.  He sometimes looked like he wanted to cry.   I think Mr. Ross had some sympathy for him.

But now we have Adam Gase.    He is not a nice guy.  Not a simpleton by any means, but like Philbin, he is woefully in over his head.  He is smug and arrogant, the type of guy who feels reporters’ questions are beneath him because he is by far the smartest guy in the room.  Bill Belichick also has that quality when he explains himself; he’s a smug prick too, but he has a few accomplishments under his belt, doesn’t he.   Gase has nothing.   Nothing but excuses.  Ross should have zero sympathy for him.

So my point is this:   I think Philbin stuck around after his welcome had worn out because he was a nice, quiet non-factor.  Gase is far from that.   He’s done nothing at all–nothing–to enamor himself to the fans, media, or Mr. Ross.  For those reasons, I think Mr. Ross will have a shorter lease this time.  There’s only so many times you can blame injuries for your losses instead of looking into the mirror.

Let’s hope Mr. Ross realizes his own mistake (hiring Gase) very soon.

“TJ McDonald drilled a defenseless guy from behind? That’s Laremy Tunsil’s fault”

  1. Regarding Gase,we’re stuck with him this season and barring a 5-11 finish this season, another year for him. I said he was a mistake from the day we announced his signing and like you say,he’s done nothing to prove me wrong. We must stop giving 3-4 year AUDITIONS for head coaches-we NEED a REAL HC!

  2. Admin this conversation is a waste of time because Ross could care less. Proof? You want to see how emberrising this team and owner are? Search Google for “stephen ross dolphins comments 2018” all you will find from Ross are comments a out protesting the flag. That’s it. Protest his crappy team…..nope. protest his crappy coach……nope. Protest the crappy calles every week….nope. Protest late hit after late hit on his qb……nope. Only silence which is why there is no need to waste our time talking a out gase getting canned

Fans screaming yelling rarely affect any owner. But someone close to him—Tannenbaum or Grier, for example, need to sit down and calmly explain some basics to him.
“Whenever we need one inch to keep a drive alive, your head coach calls for a long bomb. That is egregious showmanship, not sound football. We made a mistake with this kid Gase. Time to fire him.”

    1. Tannenbaum may have been a worse pick that Tannehill. They guy destroyed the Jets and he’s close to the same thing here. Gier is a nobody now here only so his father (who scouted Tom Brady for the pats) can help with the draft. This team is a complete joke. There is no one in the building that can help us at this point.

    2. Tannenbaum and Grier are 2 major problems with this franchise. The are the Back Office but they won’t fire themselves and like I said 2 days ago and Brian said today, Ross could care less. It’s a business.

  4. I personally would like to see what Gase can do with a different QB. I don’t count Cutler, yea it was dumb bringing him in, but it was also very close to the regular season so it was him or kapernick. I’ve been harping on the same point all week but Tannehill just isn’t getting it done. Think about how many other teams would start him in the NFL. I honestly can’t think of a single one, maybe Denver but I think Keemun is better. Maybe the jags but Bortles has been better recently. Every other team has a better player or a young guy with more potential. Miami prolly has the least exciting starting QB in football.

    1. It was a dumb 10M mistake to sign Cutler-but that’s what the Back Office does. No experienced QB with any upside will come here. Retreads will for 10M. And where is Cutler today?

    2. I wouldn’t mind seeing what Gase could do with a other QB too as long as we have a real head coach and Offensive coordinator a d Gase is the QB coach. Kinda like Indy the only place he had success.

Just think of this: Last year as we prepared for the 2017 season, we knew Tanny was coming off a torn ACL from the prior season. Yes, it was supposed to be ready for 2017, but you cannot take that risk. You must draft an insurance policy. Who was available in 2017 draft? How about: Patrick Mahomes, Mitchell Trubisky, or Deshaun Watson.
So Tanny blows out his knee a second time, and we coulda put in one of those rookies, who takes over the team and becomes a star.
Instead, we drafted a bust like Charles Harris and sign a decrepit Jay Cutler.
You can’t have an iffy situation at QB and not drat an insurance policy, but that is exactly what Miami did. Horrible decision making haunts this team

I mean, my point is that it’s one thing to not draft a QB because you think your own guy is great. But when he’s gimpy and you STILL don’t even consider someone new?

          1. This is my point. You can’t point to one area on this team other than special teams where we have a coach or an admin person who has winning experience in the position that they are in. When has Ross ever succeeded in professional sports, where has Tannabum every succeeded as a GM or even as an assistant, where has Gier ever succeeded as a talent evaluater (He has had some decent picks but the bombs far outweigh them), where has gase ever been sucessful as a HC or even an Assistant Head Coach, where has Matt Bork ever been successful as a Defensive Cordinator, where has Dowell Loggains ever been successful as an Offesive Cordinator I will tell you here is one he was successful as the OC of the Bears he had a 1k rusher for 3 years and he learned under real coaches like sean payton, Mike Heimerdinger, Chris Palmer, Kyle Shanahan I’d rather have him as HC but he can’t even call plays, the one guy with real experience on the offensive side cant use it here!

Ok after this CLASS it gets really bad! Want to know why our QBs wont ever develop? We have Bo Hardegree as our QB coach. Remember him? Nope no one know who he is because he was Adam Gases assistant in Chicago. He was an assistant QB coach for one year and that experience got him promoted to QB coach for Miami. This kid knows zip!

Want to know why the DL can’t seem to get much pressure on the QB all game. Our DL coach is a bust. Kris Kocurek has 9 years in the NFL all with losing Detroit teams. I mean BAD teams and when a real defensive coach showed up there last offseason this clown was booted out the door. Officially he quite but come on…. now we get him to turn our line into garbage too.

Want to know why our receivers can’t get any separation. Their coach is a moron. Ben Johnson has been with Miami for seven years. That means Philbin hired this clown. He has been used as an assistant nearly everywhere on the offensive side of the ball and his units have failed every year all the time.

Ok heres another complete joke, Shawn Jefferson is our assistant Head Coach which I’m sure no one knew and he has a whooping 9 years of coaching experience in the NFL. Sounds like we have a winner here right? WRONG…. almost all of his coaching was as the receivers coach for the Detroit Lions…… He comes to Miami and is named the Assistant Head Coach!!!!!! What a Joke.

I could go on and on and on and I wish that somewhere I could tell you there are competent people in the Dolphins organization but I dont see it.

Here is one coach we somehow landed. His grandkids must live in Miami. Eric Studesville he is our running backs coach and he won the Superbowl with the Broncos and was on two Conference championship teams. He coached three pro bowlers through signifigant periods of times in their careers Marshawn Lynch (2008), Willis McGahee (2011) and C.J. Anderson (2014) and in total he coach 10 1k yard rushers. He also served as Denvers Assistant Head Coach for a very productive year.

I say we fire Gase and promote Studesville to HC, keep Dowell Loggains as OC and let him do his Job and leave the rest of the coaching staff in place until the end of the year.

This list is a huge reason why we SUCK and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OFFENSIVE LINE!

    1. Agreed-the these folks in charge can’t see the forest for the 20m per season trees. He was a joke before he was drafted and has done little to change my perspective. Supposedly,Gase had the reputation as a QB whisperer-apparently 1 of 2 things happens,he wasn’t the QB whisperer or Tranny was beyond help. You decide!

      1. Author

All those years in Denver, he whispered to Peyton Manning, “You are among the best ever. I’ll just stay out of your way.”

        1. LOL-“Make me look good”.

      2. Based on my comments I think you know I’m on the Tanny is unfixable side. But gase holds some blame for sure.

      3. Karma there is Option #3 – Gase wasn’t the QB whisperer and Tranny was beyond help

        1. I don’t disagree with your assessment of the coaching staff, but I do think the management is not as poor as it was in past years. Howard, Baker, Fitzpatrick, Tunsil, Taylor, and McMillian are all decent to pretty good draft picks in the past couple of years. Gesiki has potential so he hopefully will join that group, and idk what happened to Tankerseley but he seemed like he had potential last year. The team and especially the defense has some real talent now which 2 years ago we couldn’t really say. Just need a QB.

  5. I do have a question for you guys. Why do the Fins win most of their games when their oline is decent and healthy? This with Tanny as your QB? Not saying that a new QB couldn’t hurt but the fact is Tanny has won 10 of his last 13. How does that happen with cluster fuck coaches, less than average oline and for the most part average D??? Is be Houdini to have that record?
