Well, it didn’t take long for Koa Misi to be gone.  This year it occurred before the season even started.  The Dolphins placed him on I.R., essentially disqualifying him from playing one single snap this year.  There are back-and-forth rumors declaring if Misi is retiring or not, but does that really matter?  He hasn’t played a full season for us in 7 years.  If a guy barely plays for 3 seasons and retires, what have we lost?

Don’t get me wrong.  I like the guy and injuries are never an athlete’s fault.  The injury doesn’t make Misi less tough.  The point is that Dolphins could not rely on him steadily over the years, and at least this year, we know early on that he cannot be relied upon.

Same for Mike Pouncey.  Although the team publicly says Pouncey will be ready for a complete season, historically we all know that won’t happen.  You don’t have to hate on a player, but you do have to accept  the reality of it.

Meanwhile, Stephen Ross FINALLY said no to something.  He chose to not get involved with a new soccer team.  As far as we know, that is the first venture Stephen Ross ever said No to.   Could it be the sign of good things to come?

But…in the same breath, he went on to say, “…Miami is a great event city, and that’s really what it’s known as. It’s not the great sports city we’d like it to.”    In his own words, Ross says Miami is good for hosting events but bad for sports.  Lovely.   Imagine Robert Kraft saying Boston is not a great sports city?  Ross is utterly clueless when it comes to getting people behind the Dolphins, and insulting us fans is certainly NOT the way to do so.

Sure, winning a Super Bowl would make Miami a great sports city, and it’s his job to do so.  But teaming up with Gloria Estafan and donating millions to Michigan schools will not help Miami become great.

We’ve also hear that DeVante Parker is looking strong in practice.  Don’t we hear that every year?

  1. Sometimes players take a little time and he admitted to not working out enough to strengthen his body for the NFL. This season could make or break Parker.

I like the signing of Verner adding more experience to the secondary as well as competition bodes well…

  2. , “…Miami is a great event city, and that’s really what it’s known as. It’s not the great sports city we’d like it to.”

Actually this is a widely held view of sports afficionado’s and announcers throughout the media concerning professional sports attendance in Miami, so don’t blame this businessman who by they way said he didn’t know anything about football, for making a statement like that, so I don’t think he’s really “insulting” Dolphins fans.
I myself have heard it said by people in Miami that most sports fans in Miami are “bandwagon jumpers.”

Would we like it to be a “great sport city?” Yes. Is Miami really there yet? No, especially the way a lot of us would like it to be. That is what you get when the majority of the population comes from so-called “third world” countries. But that is not Ross’s fault nor is the onus definitely on him to make Miami the sporting hot bed we’d like it to be.

I believe that the more generations get on, the more we’ll see a change in the landscape of Miami’s professional sports attendance and Miami become the true sports town you and others want it to be.

Phil, I think you are absolutely correct. Miami isn’t a great sports city at this time. We can all admit that. However…it’s one thing for you or me to say that. But for Stephen Ross to say it? And say it publicly? I think that’s a different situation. I don’t criticize Ross because I disagree with his opinion. I DO agree. But I criticize him for saying it aloud to millions of Dolfans.

I also agree with you that it’s not his onus to make Miami a great sports city. That’s why it bothers me each time he tries (and fails) to do so…(bringing in tennis tournaments, bidding to host a Super Bowl, soccer tournaments, etc.). He should instead concentrate on the Miami Dolphins and quit worrying about other things.

      1. Huh?!!!…..If true Dolfans want to change the way attendance looks at the stadium during home games then thousands of them need to get up off their asses and go to the game so that their stadium wouldn’t look so ridiculous to the rest of the country on camera with all those empty seats. I don’t blame Ross for saying what he said, and if Dolphans and fans of other sports teams in Miami are so “butt hurt “about it, then show up to these home games at all of Miami’s Pro Sports teams venues and change other people’s opinion.

        1. @Phil

I did that for a long time (Decades) with my whole family. We live in Naples so it’s a lot of work and a long drive to go to the games.

When they extended Philbin I gave up.

Now I have a 175″ 4K screen to watch the games on and I can tell you it will take a lot to get me to pony up for season tickets ever again.

Would I like to take my kids to a Monday night conference game…. ya and probably will still do that kind of stuff but I can’t see owning season tickets again.
