While we await head coaching news, we still have some time to lament about the Adam Gase era.

Specifically today, I’d like to point out that my criticisms of Gase are not unique. Many other people saw what I saw, and their comments speak volumes. The people I’m talking about are the TV announcers, including several well-respected Hall of Famers.

There were about six instances this year when an announcer said something along the lines of “I’m surprised that Adam Gase called that play right there.”

They were right to question Gase’s play-calling. But I’m a little disappointed that they were surprised over it.

Here’s what I mean: Early in the season, Bruce Arians called one of our games, and we faced a third-and-inches. Gase called for a long pass. We failed. No surprise whatsoever to anyone who follows this team.

But Arians WAS surprised. I didn’t want him to say, “I’m surprised at that…” Instead, I wanted him to explain to the national audience something more like, “Well, this continues to be a common mistake that Adam gase makes.” It kinda showed me that the announcers were not in tune with Gase’s history of bad calls.  They didn’t do their homework.

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman also questioned Gase during the TNF game at Houston. Early on in the tie game, we faced a 4th-and-inches inside Texan territory. Frank Gore was in the game, but instead of handing the ball to him, Gase called a pass. JJ Watt blew up the play easily, and the Texans took over.

Troy Aikman was surprised and second guessed Gase. Dolphins Truth readers were NOT surprised and second guessed Gase.

Hall of Famer James Lofton? Same story.

Hall of Famer Cris Carter? Same story.

Former QBs Trent Green and Steve Burlein? Same story.

It’s not just me who questioned Gase. These are pretty well-respected men who watched Gase during the year, and they all came up with the same conclusions. I wish they would have been more vocal and more critical of Gase, instead of merely being surprised.

It all makes me wonder how much detail the NY Jets looked at in hiring Gase. He has a losing record. He cut All Pros and kept so-so players. He hired his buddies, even when they failed week in and week out. He called plays that cost us games.

What am I missing? What did the Jets see in this guy? The Jets surely don’t read Dolphins Truth, but you would think that someone in charge would watch video replays of a few Dolphin games to hear all these Hall of Famers dissecting Gase.

  1. Sounds like we’re hiring Flores from the Patriots…..

    1. I prefer THIS Flores, even though he is 81 years old.
Thomas Raymond Flores is a Mexican-American former professional football coach and player. He and Mike Ditka are the only two people in National Football League history to win a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, and head coach.
Not sure if he can get over Chump’s wall though.

  2. It’s a blessing in disguise. Most people have no idea what is going on in Miami. Once you explain they all get why we are upset. We are fortunate to have that tool gone and coaching a division rival haha!

As per NFL network Flores is the favourite…

Yes, that news keeps popping up. Tell you what, Mr. Flores…. You lose to the Chargers on purpose Sunday, and the job is yours!

    1. Former Bellychump coaches haven’t faried well as HCs. No reason to think this one will be any different. Huge mistake. Richard is the answer.

      1. But if Richard turns us down,it will be the ultimate slap in the face for this franchise.

Ambition is overrated at times. Jerry Jones is paying the guy millions and millions of dollars to run drills with the defensive backs. He doesn’t call plays and remains very much under the radar, behind the DC and the HC. Some people like that kind of position.
I’m sure his current job is a lot of work, but a HC’s job is 100 times more work. Can’t blame a guy for staying put.

          1. Yea it’s sucks tho I was really hoping Miami got him, I’m not to optimistic about Flores but I’ll hope for the best

          2. He was a good DC in Seattle until the idiot Carroll cut him loose. And Dallas snapped him up. I believe besides DB coach he manages the passing attack in Dallas. So not just a lowly position coach.

  4. Great article. There are no fewer than 5-6 guys on this site that have been pointing this out for 3 years. I dont think Arians and other commentators will say something so direct because they may still want to coach in the league and dont want to be insulting.

Very curious to hear the DETAILS on why Grier chose Flores. Belicheat’s coordinators have never fared well. What makes Grier think that Flores is different?
If he was so good, why didn’t Bill B give him title of DC instead of keeping him as merely a LB coach?
Why is Flores better than Rochard? Or Rex? or Mike McCarthy.
I do NOT want to hear just “He’s a winner and he was the one we wanted.” Or “He really impressed us with his football knowledge.” I want to know the specifics on why him? What specifically does he have that others don’t? Also—Flores interviewed with several other teams—why did all those other teams reject him? I feel that is a legit question to ask Grier/Ross

    1. They can’t hire him just like we can’t take Richard now since they are still in playoffs.

  6. Admin, did you hear the bengals are hiring Mike Sherman’s son in law, your pal zac Taylor

  7. Also, NFL.com reports that Flores and Chris Grier go back a long way. Jesus, Ross let the new GM hire his buddy.
The mediocre Dolphins shall continue guys
