Mark your calendars for Week 3.   THAT is the game that will tell us all we need to know about the 2015 Miami Dolphins.

Why not Week 1 or 2?  Well, let’s look at Week 1 last year.  We defeated New England, and talk began about how it was out year to overtake them.  That victory was meaningless.  We simply caught the Patriots an an opportune time.   You can’t judge a team by how well they do too early.

This year’s insightful game is against the Bills.  This was the same team that I said last year would tell us all we need to know….the first Bills game.

I will say the same thing I said last year:   If we lose to the Bills in Week 3, that tells us that we’re going nowhere.  Another 8-8 season.   Another lost cause stuck in neutral with Joe Philbin.

They asked Thad Lewis how many different NFL teams has he ever defeated. He held up one finger.

If we barely squeak past the Bills, that is almost the same as a loss.  it really is.  The Bills have one of the worst offenses in NFL history, and their QB is a journeyman second-stringer.  Just like that mighty Bills QB a few years ago, Thad Lewis, who beat us TWICE.

Thad has 2 wins in his entire career.  BOTH were against Joe Philbin.  Tyrod Taylor could be the next Thad Lewis.

The only way I’ll be convinced that we’re on our way to a special season is if we easily destory the Bills.   It’s our home opener, in a new stadium, with exciting new personnel on the field, in our first division game.  If we can’t beat the sorry northern New Yorkers by at least 15 points, I’ll be very worried and extremely disappointed.

Beating Washington or Jacksonville by 40 points each on the road will not be as meaningful as what we do against the Bills.  Mark your calendars, folks.

That being said, I am excited about the Washington game Sunday.   I’m not convinced our offense is any better than last year, and certainly the coaches have not improved.   But our defense is stout and I like the cuts/keeps last week for the most part.   I see us beating Washington 24-13.

Your thoughts?

P.S.
EDITOR’S NOTE:

In the last preseason game, with time running out on Tampa at the end of the first half, Tampa was content to run the clock out and go into halftime.  But brilliant Joey Philbin called a defensive timeout (as usual) so he could try to get the ball back with time on the clock.  So Tampa passed and got a long first down and were in field goal range.   Clueless Joe’s defensive timeout cost Miami 3 points.

The man will never learn.   And please don’t tell me “it was only pre-season” because Joey makes the same boneheaded decision in real games too !

  1. Week 1 has arrived!!! I’m so pumped.

  2. I think you vastly underrate the Bills. Not only that, but their strongest unit is the defensive unit and it is pretty damn good. Plus Clay is a mismatch for ANY LB we have.
