Time to move on from that pig of a game the Dlphins played yesterday. Let’s hope that Adam Gase learns some lessons.
If I were a Patriot (or a Patriot fan), I’d be laughing at us so heartily now. I’d say stuff like:
“Miami wasted two draft picks on tight ends that were supposed to be Gronk clones. How’d they do yesterday?” or
“How did your other first-round picks do? DeVante Parker was injured, and he still was more effective than wasted bust Charles Harris.”
The jokes at our expense are endless.
Meanwhile, the season is on the brink of being lost to injuries. It happens to every team of course, but it’s killing us all at once lately. I fear Bobby McCain and Daniel Kilgore are gone for the year, and both are experienced starters. I fear Andre Branch’s injury might take longer to heal than expected, leaving us with no depth at all at DE. (See my above comment on Charles Harris.) Adam Gase is keeping quiet about the extent of Reshad Jones’ injury. I can’t blame him, because it makes no sense to tell us the truth, since then the opponent would know how to prepare. But even with Jones and McCain and Branch playing yesterday, we probably still lose. Better to save Jones until he’s 100% and see what happens.
Frank Gore continues to out-perform Kenyan Drake. The Herald ran a story today saying that Miami turned Drake into a missing person. Really? I guess Greg Cote hasn’t watched Drake play this year.
Gase’s playcalling continues to baffle. Even when he sees the problem, he does nothing to correct it. Tannehill was getting chased around all day. But Gase calls zero bootleg plays. Zero rollouts. Zero pitchouts. Zero trickery. Zero max protections. He’s the pits. He keeps saying how the line didn’t block well. True. But he’s the one who sees the line not blocking well, and then he calls a play that expects the line to block well.
A frustrating day that can only be forgotten by a win in Cincy.
I’m also going to reiterate this from our post yesterday:
As bad as the defense was, consider this: What if I told you that our D would have 2 interceptions, numerous batted balls, several hurries and pressures, forced punts, and stopped 3 different wildcat/trick plays for no gain. The Pats also had a first-and-goal from the 2 yardline and we held them to only a field goal. The Defense did some good things.
But they were exhausted and undermanned, and finally it became too much for them. And our offense threw them an anchor instead of a life buoy.
This loss was due to no offense.

Here’s some positive news:
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is expected to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a broken ankle in his team’s 37-36 win over the Atlanta Falcons, according to a report Monday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Eifert will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the campaign.
Next Monday’s headline:
Unknown third-string Bengal tight end scores 3 TDs on 244 yards receiving.
Bobby McCain to miss a month, not the whole season.
LOL-and he’s cut the next day and back to Taco Bell like that clown for the Pats.
Totally agree with your take on this game and season. We were exposed yesterday to those who were clueless on how bad we really are.
Totally off topic-the idiot Jeter traded away an entire All Star outfield including last years NL MVP-Stanton-and also the 2018 NL MVP-Christian Yelich-FOR NOTHING!
Rant over.

Every time the cameras showed Gase on the sideline peering at his list of plays like someone in a restaurant with a menu in French but had no idea of what the language was saying, I chuckled at how lost he looked. The Patriots showed Gase he was way out of his element. The Dolphins gave Gase his first head coaching job in the NFL and fired person another person whom the Dolphins gave his first head coaching job in the NFL and both of them had this in common, they were both “offensive coordinators” in the NFL before becoming Head Coaches of the Miami Dolphins. Gase thinks he can be both head coach and offensive coordinator, which is very arrogant of a guy who’s never held a head coaching position at any level in football. As we see, what Ross did was give the person a “learning on the job” head coaching position. All that “tuff talk” Gase did in front of the cameras when he first arrived in Miami means diddly squat now. On Sunday, Belichick demonstrated to Gase the “Real Deal” on what an NFL head football coach is about.
Very sad and very true. I don’t get the guy.
First play of the game, he had both Gore and Drake in the backfield, and the Pats were confused. They not only had to guess if it was a run, but also, if it’s a run, which guy will get the ball? Or will Tanny bootleg it for 20 yards like he did to open the Raider game? It was a good formation. We ended up throwing it to Stills for 21 yards, and the Pats were looking at each other.
But then, as we come to expect from Gase, he went with a single-back formation, which made the Patriots’ job so much easier. He had a mismatch and opted not to use it. Why?
Well Admin, I went to my buddy’s house (he’s a Steelers fan by the way) to watch the game and told him before it started that I believed the Patriots will win. During the game he kept laughing at me and said “I’m going to tell your doctor to not let you watch anymore Dolphins games because of how frustrated and pissed off you can get.” I told him it’s not the Dolphins losing that bothers me if they put up a battle, It’s the way and how the Dolphins lose that gets to me. Embarrassing losses like yesterday are just too disgusting to swallow.
I hear you my spouse says the same thing. It started when the refs called the first fake hold on Howard and gave them a first down. I knew it was over…
I did review the pick play and the CB took a step forward and was blocked. He was within one yard. The CB behind him just let the other wide receiver run right by him which should never happen. Hopefully they review that tape!
Either way admin is correct this wasn’t on the D the offence was lifeless like they had a bet on NE….
Gase is outcoached on a regular basis. How many times in his too-long tenure here has he actually outcoached someone? Once a season, maybe. Maybe 2x. I agree with Phil. He is simply bad at play calling. He thinks he has a handle on it and he is so far from a handle it’s absurd.
One more thing re: Gase. He wanted to change the culture here AND get “his players” here. Well he has with the same result. How’s that working out? We beat 3 crap teams (Tennesse w/o Mariota) and got crushed by a decent/good team. Sounds like the end of that 10 win joke of a season, huh!
Kilgore out for the year. Both new high-priced linemen now are out. We’re allowed to feel sorry for ourselves for a few hours, but then must put it behind us.
Josh Sitton had a rotator cuff injury that could have been treated after this season, but he opted to have the surgery now. Daniel Kilgore has a torn tricep. He could play through the pain this season, but instead he is out for the year.

The Herald quoted Gase as saying : “we have to do a better job of fundamentals, and make sure we don’t get caught up emotionally in the game, and then we give ourselves a better chance”
And then people wonder why Tanny never shows any emotion at all, ever. Simple – he’s COACHED not to.
Contrast that with Brady. When the Lions were killing them last week, I saw several sideline shots of Brady chewing out his teammates, VERY emotionally. And he wasn’t doing it for THAT game (it was already gone) – he was (very smartly) doing it for the next game, and the rest of the season, and we all saw the results.
“we have to do a better job of fundamentals,”
That’s funny coming from a guy who didn’t play football at any level.
Yep. “Doing better” is not an option when the opponent is simply better than you. Look at it this way. What if Admin, Phil, Brian, FlyerFinFan, and Karma were the 5 offensive linemen.
I snap the ball to Tannehill, and all 5 of us get run over for a sack.
A smart coach would then say, “These linemen suck ass. I better call for Tanny to roll out as fast as he can to get away from that rush.” Or call a pitchout to avoid that rush.
But what Gase does is say “Those 5 guys will do better next play. I’m gonna call the same thing again.”
Lol… that is why it’s hilarious when an NFL head coach, who didn’t play organized football at any level, stands before the cameras and gives a quick and simplistic answer by making it look like he was ready, but the team wasn’t.
First admin,I’m not playing on the OL,period. I am a WR and DB. Play me there or I’m sitting out until I’m a free agent. But of course I get your point. I’m 1 of 5 turnstiles, like our OL for the past decade. Gase is simply lost.
I’m really surprised at how karmatourer haven’t said anything about Tannehill yet.
Phil,I simply can’t any longer. I’m already on 2 BP meds after a stroke 3 days before Cheeto was elected! You think I get wound up about Tranny, don’t get me started on Cheeto. I’ve said all I can about Tranny. He was a mistake from the beginning and continues to disappoint. But 20M a season-kudos on his part.
But I am going to Houston on 10/25 to hopefully see a win.
ADMIN,your aptly named Mexican Magnum P.I. is on tonight.
I know everyone has bitched about Gase’s playcalling and I know it’s repetitive but I am still extremely upset, so I am venting. What baffles me the most is that what the Patriots did was really simple, bring up both safeties and press cover. This takes away about 75-80% of Gase’s playbook. You’d think that running seen routes deep might open Drake underneath or just free up one of your receivers midrange would be tried. I mean the first play of the game worked well (between the tight zone). Gase was totally unprepared. Do you think he realizes that the next 3 teams will do the same thing. Will the play book change? If this same Patriot team tried this against Dan, they would be staring at a 400 yard 4 TD game easily. Safeties up, audible 2 deep and one underneath. Sorry, I’m pissed!
Westcoast – No he wont realize the next three teams will do the same thing because if he thought there was any value to watching what other teams do to beat you he would have WATCHED THE DETROIT GAME (YOU HEAR ME GASE YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!) and would have used the same game plan to win last week! Think of this…… Gase didn’t need to come up with ANYTHING ON HIS OWN. He could have simply copied what a three time SB winning coach JUST DID TO NE and at lest have been competitive!
GASE + TANNEHILL + BURK = WE SUCK!
BTW – I’m not playing OL on this crappy team either!
It’s not hard to tell your DB’s to press gronk at the line that should be automatic. I think Gase may be one of those guys that only his ideas are good ideas which is assine. If something works do it!
On O admin is correct none of the things that worked the week before were used. Tried to overthink BB and lost without even trying. If the general is an idiot how are the troops expected to succeed? He needs to snap out of it.
Injuries don’t help the cause that’s for sure… I don’t mind Swanson he should be ok but it may take time to gel. They need Jones back now for sure with McCain out. Harris needs to grow up!
Welp, this is how our team look, injury wise (so far):
OL Sitton, Kilgore, wide receiver DeVante Parker, tight ends MarQueis Gray and A.J. Derby, defensive ends William Hayes and Andre Branch, linebackers Chase Allen and Mike Hull, cornerback Bobby McCain and safety Reshad Jones.
But, our team does have four healthy quarterbacks! By the way, how much is Osweiler getting paid this year?
Oh boy, we’re not even halfway through the season yet……
