I blame Stephen Ross.

Not for the hurricane that may or may not affect our weather Sunday.    Rather, I blame Ross for being the NFL’s patsy, bending over to accommodate them at every whim.  Always (and I mean always) to the detriment of our beloved Miami Dolphins.

As soon as I heard that he Dolphins players (and myself as well) wanted to play at a neutral site Sunday (rather than have no bye week), I knew our fate.    For whatever the Dolphins and their fans want, Stephen Ross and the NFL will do the opposite.   I can’t emphasize this enough:   pretty much every single Dolphin player was stating publicly how much they want to keep their bye week intact.  The NFL itself rarely ignores its players’ wishes.  Something else was going on behind the scenes.

Now we have no bye week.    Now we have no team to root for Sunday.   Now our months and months of anticipation go out the window.  The wait that should be over lives on    No home game until week 5.

Ross should have put his foot down.  “My players don’t wanna give up their bye week, so let’s play elsewhere this Sunday.”     It’s a simple and effective statement that would hold weight if Ross were behind it.

But no.    He was too busy bragging about how excited the fans in Europe are to get to see the Dolphins in their stadium before we see them at home.    Only Ross.    Only such a disinterested New Yorker like Ross would let the NFL dictate to him instead of vice versa.   At least Ross will get to see the Dolphins at his home stadium in New York in Week 3.

  1. I understand that this is a potential tragedy but sometimes you need sports to take your mind off things. This game should have been played on Thursday no reason not to. Worst case in a neutral location as I understand that they need to prepare the city.

Because they would lose a home game London should be cancelled. Sorry but you can’t cripple a team this badly giving them no chance to make the playoffs. By taking away the bye week this is even more important now but the NFL doesn’t give a shit about Miami… if it were the patsies you can bet this would have unfolded differently.

Heard that the red sox cheated stealing signals sound familiar? Probably got the tip from Belicheats staff…what a joke.

Well said. I mentioned yesterday that we should get to play the Saints in Miami, not London. This morning, Armando at the Herald wrote the same thing. (Not the first time he’s repeated my concepts). Ross would have to lobby his ass off to get the NFL to change its mind about that, but I’m sure he’ll be too busy up in New York or Michigan.

  2. This is hardly Ross’s fault, but I see your point. He is not vocal and not passionate about his team. He listens rather than dictates. Do you think Robert Kraft or Jerry Jones would sit back and wait for the NFL to decide their fate?
As our friend jay would say, “Pray for new ownership,.”

    1. Agreed seasons over before it started thanks a lot nfl….

  3. Ross didn’t want to play elsewhere. He wants the money from a home game no matter if it sacrifices the team. He’s sacrificed the team time and time again to make more bucks hosting a SB. The worst owner in sports?

    1. I wouldn’t say worst owner but can’t disagree with you this is not in the teams best interest that’s for sure. It’s more about status than winning…

Jay. As I have stated, I will allow you to say whatever you choose. However, you cannot use other people’s screen names or just add a “2” after someone’s existing name. It’s too confusing and makes it appear like you’re trying to trick people into thinking that someone else wrote your comment. Same rules for everyone…please don’t try to impersonate other commenters by using a similar screen name.

    2. Jay we all know who’s writing it so why play games be a man and use your name. no one gives a shit anyway enjoy yourself.

You can even sign your name as “Anonymous” I don’t care. But all I ask is not to create a name like Admin2, or I’mFlyerFinFan, etc

  4. Well at least the players get to be with there families during this hurricane.

    1. Author

Yeah, i was wondering about that. A lot of guys just have rentals during the NFL season and live elsewhere. I imagine that Gase will let everyone go anywhere they want. And once it’s over, the Dolphins will have to travel to the West Coast and not be able to be with their families during the cleanup/aftermath. It’s a big convoluted mess. It will take a lot of mental toughness for the Phins to concentrate on football.

      1. I don’t know about you but personally I would want to get my family out of there during this so playing in Philly or something would have been fine by me. It’s not like you can stop the hurricane best to get out of dodge if you have the means to do so. Plus it takes your mind of this stuff as well as the fans gives some relief.

Ah well their predicting 2 extra losses due to this mess so even a 10-6 season is now 8-8 and no chance for the playoffs. You should never lose a season due to this kind of external stuff but I can’t blame the players as it was already a hard road coming in. Add in injuries and potential of more it’s tough sledding. I’m an optimist but wow….

  5. He did all these London games to get the Super Bowl. You haven’t seen real teams play there. How about NE? No,they haven’t.After this,we may be finished with London for a while. We should have played in the Alamodome.

    1. Author

NE’s owner knows the value of a home game. Giving up even one home game per season greatly affects your chances of winning that game. I think Ross understands that, but he doesn’t care.

      1. Vegas gives home teams 3 points for a reason and a lot of the time that’s within the margin of victory or a loss. I’m okay with giving it up when you have no chance of playoffs as it doesn’t hurt you but to do this during an upswing is demoralizing. Why would players want to be a part of this when your own owner will sabotage your season on you? Getting a super bowl is only good if you can actually get there!!!

        1. Author

Yeah, i found it interesting that Joe Haden became available and didn’t even come to Miami for discussions. He signed with the Steelers because he wanted to win. He didn’t care about about the salary or the lack of Florida income tax, etc. He wanted to win and wanted to play for a team that knows what home field advantage is all about.

          1. This is my point exactly. The owner preaches about winning super bowls but does his best to sabotage the teams efforts. At least his pocket book is open but guys like Haden don’t even want his cash. You wonder how these tools get rich when they don’t even seem to understand fundamental business….

    1. And tell us how you really feel… on second thought who cares talk football it’s finally starting well kind of. Hopefully KC gives it to the patsies although virtually impossible in NE they pull all the stops out there. Wouldn’t shock me if they tap the headsets…

Let’s go Chiefs! Just like last year when I rooted for the Chiefs to beat Denver to get us into the playoffs!

  6. Ha!…com’on Admin…where did you get that dyslexic hodge-podge of an explanation to explain what Joe Haden did?

When Haden signed that contract with the Steelers, it’s not the first time some player signed with a team that is in his former team’s division. Remember, Bret Farve signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

    1. Author

Yes, but Favre didn’t sign with the Vikings in only 40 minutes after leaving Green Bay. He fielded offers and looked a round a little. Haden took no time at all !

  7. And Haden didn’t get a look from the Dolphins either.

    1. Favre went to the Jets first of all teams so you were saying? Anyway this isn’t a good look for the team moving forward you need to draw in some of these vets to give yourself a better chance.

      1. Favre was traded to the Jets, and the Jets cut him later, and then he decided to come out of retirement and signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Look dude, before you start trying to correct me, learn how to put some comas in your riff. The stuff you write just runs on and on sometimes without a correct pause in places.

        1. You are correct but favre basically had a no trade clause and Miami wasn’t on the radar. Miami ended up grabbing Pennington after he was released by the Jets. It worked out but in reality the Fins received the Jets garbage. That was our point.

As per commas this is a fricken blog most of us are on phones randomly typing throughout the day. If it bothers you that much don’t read it. I’m not going to proof read your comments and most definitely not mine….

  8. WTF are you talking about? I said Haden isn’t the only player to sign with another team in his division. Some players like Haden sign onto another team in their previous team’s division just to rub their nose in it or piss them off. That is why Favre came out of retirement and signed with Minnesota, and Packers fans wanted to crucify his ass for that. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what teams are not on the radar of some player’s mind.

And please, I don’t read most of your comments anyway because I don’t have the time to waste trying to decipher them.

    1. You brought up the favre example not me. I just made note that he chose the jets outside of their division and he was able to do so because he had virtually a no trade clause. The Fins needed a QB but didn’t pick them for various reasons.

If you can’t read sentences because they miss the odd comma I feel for you as 90% of bloggers don’t waste their time trying to hit every single punctuation. Either way to make you happy here you go , . ! : ? – + @ # % & ; ” ‘ that should cover it for a year or so…..

Stay safe Florida my thoughts are with you.

      1. Yes, I brought up Favre’s name in response to what Admin said. Favre was traded to the Jets for a fourth round pick because of his constant squabbling with the Packers organization about coming back to play as the starting quarterback over Rodgers. That is why the Dolphins were able to pickup Chad Pennington from the Jets at that time. Yes, I responded to Admin’s assertion of “Yeah, i found it interesting that Joe Haden became available and didn’t even come to Miami for discussions. He signed with the Steelers because he wanted to win. ” That is why I mentioned Favre, because Favre is an example of a former player of one team, signing with a division rival and that could be because of his displeasure with his former team, and not money or he wants to be on a winning team.

And check it out dude, months ago I mentioned to Admin that his spelling stunk and he should proof read what he wrote before he posted it, and you know what he did? Yes, Admin did exactly what I suggested and later thanked me for pointing that flaw out to him. Now everything Admin writes is clean and much better.

As for your “If you can’t read sentences because they miss the odd comma I feel for you as 90% of bloggers don’t waste their time trying to hit every single punctuation.” I’ll answer that with something my mother used to say, “If so an so jump off a cliff, will you jump too.” I always thought to myself “no” because that shit would be very painful. Now the truth is, I haven’t met too many smart people who leave comments on the internet. In fact, most people I know with so-called SMART PHONES are dumb as shit! All that power at their finger tips and still most of them don’t know jack shit.

Usually I don’t get this long winded explaining myself. But I thought I’ll extend this courtesy to you, so take it for what it’s worth.

        1. I’m just saying that this is a football blog not a spelling bee please relax. It’s not the end of the world. There are more important things out there like hurricanes and football… I may not be perfect because I rush most of the time to post but I’m definitely not the worst out there either. Pick your battles with patsie fans it’s a better use of resources.

          1. Well, stay out of the way next time and you won’t get stepped on! If I address Admin, then let Admin speak, and don’t butt in and try to correct and pick a battle with someone who’s not addressing YOU.

Next time, follow your own suggestions and “pick your battles with patsie fans it’s a better use of resources.”

            1. agreed I hate those pricks! Was an enjoyable game last night patsie fans in shock as there’s no way they could lose a home opener…oh wait!

My own point in all of this is that players in the past saw Miami as a dream destination. Guys wanted to come here and often took less money to become a Dolphin. Nowadays, many players don’t even come in for a meeting. Haden is just one example.

      1. Exactly and I’m not even saying that every player should do cartwheels to come to Miami but more often than not they go elsewhere. Hopefully Gase will change that mindset as well as winning. So far the owner hasn’t helped that’s for sure.

Even looking at Suh he did look at Miami but it took a shitload of money and no state tax. There was no break there they paid a premium and he still mulled it over. Hope that changes soon as Miami should be an attractive place to play ball.

        1. Author

True, true. true. Suh SAID all the right things, but you know deep down he was full of crap and he just wanted the money. “I chose Miami because I know Coach Philbin is excellent and will be leading us to a championship.” Seriously? Did anyone buy that?
Truly, the only man on earth who felt that Joe Philbin was a strong head coach was Ross. Anyone else who says it is just trying to be politically correct.

          1. Exactly and don’t get me wrong I fully believe that Suh is worth every penny as he commands double teams but the Fins didn’t receive a bargain.

Some players want to stick it to their old teams but here’s another example of a guy who went elsewhere. Albeit for the money and rare for Miami of late. That needs to change it would help if Ross had his shit together.

Greg Cote at the herald was whining today about how cruel we are to become upset that our game is canceled.

    1. We’re fans what does he expect? We also want to see our team have as close to a an even playing field as the rest. It’s not even close and when compared to NE it’s light years with all the BS they get away with.

      1. Author

Coulda/shoulda had the game tonight. 3 hours of recreation for everyone while it’s still safe, Then go home and either brace for the storm or else plan your evacuation.

        1. Most players wanted to play so why not let them take their families with them to another safe location? Most probably got out of dodge anyway. Could have played even tonight took some stress out of the locals with the entertainment. A lot of people are mad now…

  10. In other news, the Patriots are up already 7-0 and just got the ball back deep in KC territory, all before I even got settled in my chair

    1. Thanks to Mike Gillislee, who the Dolphins got rid of to keep mighty Damien Williams

      1. Very enjoyable game for those that were able to watch it. patsies looked old and tired maybe this is the end….
