It’s no secret that Joe Philbin is the worst coach in the NFL.  During Saturday’s game at Carolina, he proved it once again. Rather than than accept a second and goal from the Carolina 2-inch line, Philbin instead made a move to give the Panthers the ball at their own 20. Philbin keeps his mouth shut, and the Dolphins go up 21-0.  Philbin tries to be cute, and we lose the game. The Bears’ scrub players are better than ours. The media is REALLY over-hyping our first-string offense.   Yes, they scored on a nice opening drive, but it wasn’t smooth.  We had first and goal and the Bears stopped us three plays in a row. Then a Bear penalty gave us another third down.   Wasted. What should we expect from tonight’s “game” against the Bears?   In a word:  nothing. Seriously, you have to go into these games knowing that they are a glorified practice session, rather than a true contest of who can score the most points.   If the Dolphins win or lose, that doesn’t matter of course. I don’t know about other Dolphin fans, but when I read about how practices are going, the only thing I’m looking for is if anyone tore an ACL or blew out a knee that day. Not much else matters. Do we care if some undrafted 15th-string wide receiver made a nice catch of a Mcleod Thompson pass against a bunch of ham-and-egger defenders who won’t be on the team this season? A few random thoughts for us all to ponder… A few days ago, the Dolphins announced that they’d be wearing their throwback uniforms from the 1960s. The colors were aqua and orange, not stupid powder blue.  The Dolphin on the helmet was upright and majestic, proudly wearing his M helmet.    The Dolphin is in the middle of the sun, jumping in front of it.  (Trivia:   There used to be 2 teams whose logo included a helmet on their helmet.   The Dolphins were one, but now only one remains…?) Let’s not kid ourselves.  The New England Patriots ARE Tom Brady.  They will lose at least 3 of the 4 games without him, and more than likely all four. The bad news is that none of those four games are against Miami.  Why couldn’t we play N.E. in weeks 1, 2, 3, or 4? Let’s hope the geniuses at Harvard are right. In a new scientific and mathematical study of the upcoming 2015 NFL season, scientists at Harvard analyzed a mind-numbing amount of data and determined that the Miami Dolphins will be in the Super Bowl. Former Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Bill Arnsbarger has passed away.   He was a genius. plain and simple.  No other way to describe what he did. He inherited a laughing stock defense under Don Shula, and in just a few short years had them playing in three Super Bowls in a row, winning the last two. He built the no-name defense and rode them to the championships.  When Bob Griese broke his leg, the Dolphins defense had to rise to a new level in 1972, they did so under Arnsbarger. Andre Johnson recently stated that the Dolphins were his first choice of teams to sign with, but Miami never reached out to him.   As many of our regular readers know, we’re not real big on spending big money on free agent receivers. Jonathan Judas Martin, who whined his way out of Miami and cost Pro Bowl guard Richie Incognito his job, will now be back with the Dolphins…sort of. Martin, as part of the Carolina Panthers, will participate in joint practices in August with the Dolphins.  I’m not sure why teams practice with other teams. It seems that injuries are more likely and the familiarity is not there.  These practices will be held in advance of the Panther-Dolphin preseason game. As noted in various news sources, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is weakening the Dolphins yet again. He weakens the team by not concentrating his efforts on the team. As many of our readers know, our main complaint about Mr. Ross is that he has too many interests and business ventures besides the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins become one of many hobbies for him, rather than his obsession, as it should be. Mr. Ross is as generous and as intelligent as they come. But… Quick! Joe Philbin, who must think the Dolphins went 19-0 last year, ended minicamp early and canceled the entire third day of camp. Apparently, Philbin doesn’t think the Dolphins need to practice anything.  Apparently, he thinks going 8-8 every year is ideal and so why work harder to improve?
