If compliments equated Super Bowl victories, then we will be champions for many years to come. This week, Mike McDaniel has been called an innovative genius more times than even Albert Einstein.  His knowledge of X’s and O’s, the way he inspires players, the plays he draws up…all you hear about is what a can’t-miss coach we have here. Unfortunately, we heard the same exact things about Flores and Gase and Philbin.   Unfortunately, McDaniel has zero experience.  Perhaps the lack of experience is forgiveable if he comes from a juggernaut program where he at least helped a team–if not led–to a Super Bowl.  But no.  His whole careerRead More →

If this news had come three weeks ago, I’d be irate.   I’d be saying my usual litany about how Stephen Ross has blown it again.  Something like:   He just hired a guy who has never called a play in his life.  He’s never been allowed to make a personnel decision.  Never been in a defensive meeting. Never had to manage a game clock.  Never played in the NFL.  Just another kid coordinator with zero head coaching experience. All of the above is true about our new coach, as Stephen Ross continues his charitable contributions by giving away yet another head coaching job to yet anotherRead More →

We now interrupt our Stephen Ross Weekly Tankgate Drama with some different news… Doug Pederson has been hired by Jacksonville.  HE was the coach he needed.  By far the best option out there. With Pederson and Daboll and Harbaugh avoiding Miami like the plague, the stakes are dire.   There is still time for Ross to hit a home run and bring in an experienced coach like Rex Ryan or Todd Bowles, but things are looking grim. The two unqualified kid coordinators (from San Fran and Dallas) aren’t even on the radar any more.  Who the hell else is out there? Pederson’s Jaguar interviews were extremelyRead More →

So let’s get this straight… The Broncos met with Flores, but John Elway didn’t take it seriously, showing up late AND DRUNK. The Giants knew they were hiring Brian Daboll, but gave Brian Flores an interview anyway. Bill Belichick accidentally texted Congratulations to the wrong Brian. The Raiders did not even bother to call Flores. The Jaguars did not even bother to call Flores. The Vikings did not even bother to call Flores. The Texans did not even bother to call Flores. And yet, with all of those seemingly legitimate gripes against all of those named above, Flores decides to name Stephen Ross as a defendant in hisRead More →

In what could prove to be the fastest open-and-shut case in legal history, Stephen Ross hired a black man to be head coach and now is being sued for not hiring a black man to be head coach. It’s like suing “1+1” for not equaling 2.  You cannot dispute facts. Yes, there is more to it of course, but the sour grapes of the Giants not anointing Flores as head coach obviously rubbed him the wrong way, and he decided to take it out on the league and the Dolphins. This is one of the few times ever that I take Stephen Ross’s side of things…andRead More →

First:  I know sometimes my site is wonky and you get error messages.  I’ve been battling my host on this, who say “nothing is wrong.”  It is wrong, as I cannot get to my own site at times.  Just refresh and try again, and it comes up within a minute.  Thanks for your patience while we work this out. Second:  There is still a little mystery surrounding who exactly in the Dolphins organization wanted DeShaun Watson so bad.  Grier?  Ross?  Flores?   But there is absolutely NO doubt about who wants Jim Harbaugh.  Ross made his love of Harbaugh known early and often.  He took theRead More →

This is some pretty bad news.  Real bad. I was starting to warm up to the idea of Daboll running our operation, but that dream is faded.   Now we’ll either be stuck with Vance Joseph or that kid from San Fran who has never called a play or made an in-game decision in his life. Nobody but nobody wants to come work for Stephen Ross. We are screwed unless Doug Pederson comes out of nowhere.Read More →

More and more indications show that Brian Daboll will be going to the Giants, and the persistent rumor is that the Dolphins will hire Vance Joseph. I certainly hope that is not the case, because I can see nothing that Joseph brings to the table.  He’s a failed head coach and a mediocre coordinator.  I cannot fathom what Ross sees in him.  Or Grier.  Aa bad as Gase and Philbin were, they were the hot names at the time.  Each was an OC coming from a Super Bowl winning team.  But Joseph?  Read More →

Probably the worst scenario I can think of is the Bills and the 49ers in the Super Bowl. I would be forced to root for San Francisco, which would virtually give the Dolphins no first round draft pick in the upcoming draft in April. Even if San Francisco loses in the NFC title game, the Dolphins would be picking 30th at best, so no matter what else happens, we are assured of a fairly average first round pick. This is all due to the fact of some very lucky San Francisco wins, dating back to week 17, when the Rams let them by 17 pointsRead More →

The more I watched these playoff games, the more I realized how close the Dolphins are (were) to being a playoff team.  It also makes me reflect on just how devastating that 7-game losing streak was. The Dolphins have the talent to make the playoffs.  Not win it all, but certainly to be in that mix.  We are a better team than New England (evidenced by us sweeping them).  I say we are better than the Raiders (we had them beat until some key plays and questionable coaching decisions doomed us).  Pittsburgh?  The Steelers finished half a game ahead of us and got an extremelyRead More →

Let’s open this up for a discussion on who we like as our next head coach. After 3 failed coordinators, I am all in on a coach with HEAD coaching experience. I said that before hiring Flores, Philbin, and Gase.   Ross must stop giving promotions to guys whose own teams never promoted them. Brian Daboll is intriguing, and his connection to Tua (BD was Tua’s coordinator at Alabama) sounds good, but bringing in a coach specifically to work with a QB has failed us recently.  Cam Cameron could not help the juggernaut of Cleo Lemon and John Beck, nor could Adam Gase or Joey PhilbinRead More →

Shit happens.  It does. Arguments and disagreements happen in every walk of life, and the NFL is no different.   Successful teams handle it internally and move on.  A strong leader/owner will force them to resolve it. For Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins, however, they continue to act first and ask questions later (or never). The Dolphins NEVER have a squabble that just ends in a handshake and is forgotten about.   Every single internal “discussion” or disagreement ends with talent leaving the Dolphins.  And I mean valuable, All-Pro talent.  Lost.  Gone in an instant. We don’t lose guys to ACLs, we lose them to “lack ofRead More →

I encourage everyone to watch Stephen Ross’s full press release announcing the firing of Brian Flores.  It’s only about 7 minutes. After watching this a few times, it becomes increasingly obvious that Brian Flores was not fired for his coaching flaws or football knowledge.   This is clearly about attitude and personality. It is painfully obvious that Flores and Ross did not get along, and certainly Flores did not get along with Chris Grier.   That being said, I think this was a drastic step to fire Flores.  Is it REALLY necessary to “get along?”   If someone is a good coach, I’d let him stay even ifRead More →

As many times as I pointed out Brian Flores’s flaws, I also spent a lot of time and wrote several articles about continuity. 2022 was supposed to be the first year in a long, long while for the Dolphins to come to camp knowing the playbook on both sides of the ball.   No more “learning a new system.”  No more, “Getting to know what the coaches want.”  Now, it is all gone.  Again. I won’t be a hypocrite.  I have called Brian Flores unqualified and I’ve pointed out plenty of his wrong decisions.  But after two winning seasons in a row, his good and hisRead More →

Beating the Patriots does not help the Dolphins, but it also doesn’t hurt. Typically, one extra win could drop us 4 or 5 spots in April’s draft this year, but we do not own that pick.  So unless we really hate the Eagles, there’s no reason to win except for pride. (By the way, let’s hope the 49ers lose and do NOT make the playoffs, because that does help our draft status). Losing does not alter next year’s schedule either.  We are already locked in third place in the AFC East, so we cannot move up or down.  The final pecking order in the AFCRead More →

As much as this pains me, I think the Dolphins should retain both Defensive Coordinator Josh Boyer and at least one of the two Offensive Coordinators. As bad as these three jokers were at times this season (and they saved their worst for the last game at TENN), I think that continuity is vital this time around. Before this year, we had Chad O’Shea for one year.  Before that was Dowell Loggins for one year.  That means every Dolphin offensive player who’s been on the team for 4 years  has had to learn a new offense every single year.  The entire summer is spent learning the playbookRead More →
