Although I’m not impressed with any of our new free agent signings, I am very pleasantly surprised that the Dolphins have bolstered and re-signed our own free agents, especially on defense.

Defense was clearly the strength of the team, and retaining as many player as possible was the right move.   I thought for sure that Chris Grier would let guys walk, but he has not,  Emanuel Ogbah is locked in.  Duke Riley.  Elandon Roberts.  Nick Needham.  And more.   Plus, perhaps most important, Josh Boyer will be back calling the shots.

For the first time in quite a while, the defense will have CONTINUITY.   None of the starters will have to learn a new defensive scheme.  None of them will have to learn the guy’s name next to him.  Guys won’t be pointing fingers and trying to re-align a teammate who’s not on the same page.  All of those issues have plagued the Dolphins because we’ve had far too many changes in coaching and personnel.  But not this time.  Finally, Chris Grier took some steps to protect our cohesiveness.

Offense is a different story.  We’ve signed a bunch of second-stringers from other teams who weren’t wanted by their respective teams.  None of these guys make a splash for me, but that’s okay.  The free agent season is young still.  Plus, with a new OC and a new head coach who will be calling plays, everyone on offense is a rookie.   All 11 players must learn a new playbook.  I hate going through this every single season, it seems, but at least that is only happening on offense, not on both sides.

Myles Gaskin or Duke Johnson don’t know the playbook any better than new RB Chase Edmonds, so there is no experience advantage to anyone.  I’m still concerned about getting a stud for our offensive line.   We signed Cowboy guard Connor Williams, but he’s not going to set the league on fire.  I still think we should sign more, and overpay if needed.

Tua has some issues,  and not every single bad play can be blamed on, “He has no offensive line.”  However, he truly did have no offensive line.  He also had a lousy play caller who refused to alter the playbook.  Let’s hope both of those issues are in the past.   The weapons are in place at the skill positions,  but now it’s time to utilize them better.  And shoring up the line will ensure we get there.

  1. With the Bills getting Von Miller, we must get a good tackle

    1. Still work to be done but I think overall they are better than last year. They have also brought in some players that know this system on O and of course a lot of players back from the D. This will help as everyone was out of sorts to start last year it took half a season to gel.

I think Hunt could slide over to RT so they may be fine as is but it would be better if they found a solid RT in FA. Draft some rookies and let’s roll. Also need a LB and WR but RB looks good now with Mostert.

      1. FFF Your boy Coleman is now with the Seahawks

        1. Yep if it allows Needham more playing time I’m all for it! I wish Coleman the best of luck but they kept the right guy….

  2. The biggest need is offensive line and Grier’s on the hot seat to get some beefy stud or studs….all I saw was Collins in Cincy today and unless the football gods are on our side for once in these past 20 years, he’ll be unsigned leaving their facility. We have only a few other options and yes, they will come with a price, but you don’t buy an economical car if you want to drive in luxury. Did anyone read Grier’s comment from Dolphins Wire: “Chris Grier did say at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine that he believed there were good, young players on the line that just need to play better.”
wwwhattt???? This is who is the GM!

  3. While I’m glad they kept the defense in tact, it’s hard to say goodbye to productive players like Duke Johnson and Mack Hollins.
We signed a lot of RBs and WRs in the past two weeks, but none of them—NONE—were starters on their teams. Their coaches who saw them every day didn’t think they were good enough to start, but our kid coach thinks they are? Plus, they are all undersized. Duke was the closest thing we had to a bruiser, and now he is a Buffalo Bill.

This just in: Following Brian Flores’s strategy, Mike Tomlin is also suing the NFL, saying that a black coach cannot get hired in the NFL. Brian Daboll and Andy Reid are suing the NFL, saying that a fat guy cannot be hired as a coach.

Yeah, I was reading yet another article on Flores’s suit, and at the heart of it, the main point he’s suing about is that a black man cannot be hired as an NFL coach. Even though the FACT that he was hired as an NFL coach contradicts what he claims. It’s baffling to me.

  5. Yes! Finally a big splash. #1 ranked free agent comes to us !

  6. Armstead + THill! Grier had to hear my rants on here!

I’m pretty darn excited to watch them scrimmage and get out on the practice field. When was the last time we had some legit…really legit talent? When these guys get out there and show what they got, the entire team will pick up their play. It has excitement coming around again.

    1. Yes can’t wait and now we’ll finally see what Tua can do. Crossing fingers that he kills it next season so they can use those two 1st round picks to put the final touches on this team. The speed will be insane.

    2. I dont know how you cover this. This is the most speed I’ve seen ever. Hill, Waddle, Gisecki, Parker and Wilson. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Parker delt for draft capital.

  7. And maybe Brady throwing to them! Lol! That would be surreal!

I got several text messages on the Brady situation last week, and I replied to each one saying that I am confident it was all rumors. Can’t deny the man has talent, but I’m certain the price tag would have been to much ! And the drama involved? No thanks
