The Dolphins have not made any splashes in free agency. But this may be a good thing. Every time we go out and overspend on the latest and greatest game-changing free agent, they typically become a bust. Enough of that.

We signed a bunch of mid-range guys, and I don’t think I’ve heard of any of them except for LB Willie Gay. I watched Gay’s remote press conference on YouTube, and he’s sitting on his farm in Mississippi, seemingly without a care in the world. It’s far too early to judge, but he didn’t seem to have any fire to win or to join the Dolphins. He talked about his acreage and where he’s planning to build houses on his property. He didn’t know too much about Anthony Weaver nor the Dolphins’ scheme.

And it’s only one year for Gay, which tells me neither side feels very confident in the other…which is how it usually goes for the Dolphins and our signees.

As for our other new free agents, I’ll put the whole list here. None of these names stand out to me as great signings, but like I said, that could be a good things. I expect so little, that we can only go UP!

  • Quinton Bell, outside linebacker (re-signing)
  • Larry Borom, guard/tackle
  • K.J. Britt, linebacker
  • Pharaoh Brown, tight end
  • Artie Burns, cornerback
  • Elijah Campbell, safety (re-signing)
  • James Daniels, guard
  • Ashtyn Davis, safety
  • Matt Dickerson, defensive lineman (re-signing)
  • Tyrel Dodson, linebacker (re-signing)
  • Liam Eichenberg, guard (re-signing)
  • Benito Jones, defensive tackle (re-signing)
  • Ifeatu Melifonwu, safety
  • Ryan Stonehouse
  • Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, wide receiver
  • Zach Wilson, quarterback

Dodson showed some fight last year. Eichenberg adds some depth (I suppose). Wilson has been a joke as a Jet and Bronco, so maybe the third time’s the charm? Borom is coming off a bad Achilles tear and we don’t know if he’s ready to play.

As far as free agents we’ve lost, Jevon Holland tops the list, but that is not saying much. I’ve felt that Holland is overrated. In four years here, I can remember only 2 memorable plays. He’s not a game-changer. He’s not a shutdown DB on the back end. He’s a tackling liability when it comes to the run game. I would have preferred to keep him, but the Giants offered him a ton of money. And obviously Holland was only after the money, because why else would anyone sign with a perennial 4-win team?

  1. And… we’re still stuck with Tua. Oh, wait-we have Zach Wilson as backup QB. Not much to be excited about with what Grier has done-he should have been cut along with other players. I wouldn’t renew my season tix I had them.

  2. Are we still in the “rebuild” or not? Any guesses? Either way, I don’t think we have a team capable enough to beat the Bills – and we ain’t going anywhere until we do. The fan enthusiasm in South Florida, at least right now, is really low. Grier should have been fired along with McD. I think we can all agree the “cool guy” coach experiment is a failure. If Tua gets hurt again, and we all know he’s not very durable, I can’t see Wilson winning any games for us. Sorry guys, my enthusiasm is low as well. I see 6 or 7 wins this season.
I agree with Admin about Holland – way overrated. Sorry guys, I don’t mean to be a downer, but, unless we Draft some guys who can start right away, we don’t stand a chance. Just my $0.02.

2 of the last 3 years have been played with luminary All Pro QBs such as Tim Boyle, Skylar Thompson, Snoop Huntley, etc. The theme? Tua has to protect himself. His Judo teacher never taught him, “Don’t dive into a guy’s body with your head” but then again, even a toddler knows that you don’t dive headfirst into anything. Do you really need to be taught self-protection? If he shows some durability, the offense can be lightning again like in 2023. Otherwise…

  4. It is hard to stay competitive when a QB is that big of a part of your salary. Good news Dolphisn didnt spend a lot of money. Daniels is the guard coming off an achilles injury him and Westbrook seem to be the ones that will be most likely to contribute next year. The rest seem like depth signings. Grier will have to draft well (will probably miss on half of them) in my opinion there are needs all over the defense

Looks like Grier is counting that if Tua stays healthy the team will be good enough to make the playoffs. Need help at DT (Calais can still come back) CB and both safeties need starters. If armstead doesnt come back do we trust Paul to replace a former all pro?

  5. Tua should be on a PIP! And when he does not perform, they will need to bench him they can’t trade damaged goods. So he’ll bench warm his big beautiful contract that the Dolphins overpaid on. They overpaid him and now they have less to get good players. Grier will be a waste product in the draft. They have to bulk up the O-line to protect Tua who IMO will never get this team or any team to a conference championship. He should have been traded when he wasn’t concussed. I wouldn’t want him if I were an owner, GM. And, I don’t think he’s that smart of a QB. It’s like Tannehill Part 2.
