HIGHS
Regardless of the hapless opponent, it was good for the defense to come up big and win the game with a minute left. Geno’s final pass was just horrendous. It’s not like Reshad Jones made a great play. Geno hit Jelani Jenkins in the back, and we got a lucky bounce. But we will take it.
I like how the defense shut down the Jets running game in the second half. Whatever happened at halftime worked.
Lamar Miller got some tough yards when it counted. A few times on our only touchdown drive, we faced a difficult third down, and Lamar Miller was a stud picking them up.
Mike Pouncey moved from guard to center after Satele’s injury and did well. Overall, i liked the O line play tonight against a tough Rex Ryan defense.
RJ Stanford played great in the limited tests he got, considering he got only two days of practice.
Dion Jordan. Yes, Dion Jordan gets his first ever HIGH vote. Nice blocked punt.
Cameron Wake had a HUGE sack right after T-hill’s interception. He stopped the Jets from getting three easy points or else we’d still be playing.
And even though it is only the 2-10 Jets, it’s a satisfying win. The Jets had a lead in a prime time home game in which they honored Wayne Chrebet and other Jet greats. The Jets beat Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, so they do have some pop. Winning a tough game can do more for you than winning a laugher. We needed this, and it happened.
THE LOWS
The first half run defense was nonexistent. It is a miracle that the Jetties only had 10 points at the half.
Caleb Strugis cannot kick that kickoff out of bounds. Jets took over at the 40 and quickly scored a field goal.
Mike Wallace dropped an easy TD. I love Wallace, but i have to give him a low grade for that painful drop.
Bill Lazor didn’t seem to string enough playcalling together. We seemed to do well on first down, then Lazor got creative on second, which led to some desperation on third down.
Lamar Miller, how did you let that screen pass turn into an interception?

surprised this article came out so soon or maybe I shouldn’t be. The lows are numerous but the Jets possess many intangibles vs the Dolphins which contributed to such a close game. Cant get into this now. Enjoying the W now. Will post back later. And thanks for giving props to DJ. Its about time he did something significant. Add this to the list of lows: The obvious fumble which should have been overturned after review. However the poor reffing also saved us from atleast 2 running into the kicker penalties so…..maybe that makes things even.
Fearthephin!
Im just so happy we won this game in the fashion we did. It makes the loss for the Jets that much more demoralizing. See the value in everything folks. We did it that way on purpose! 🙂
Good point Phin- Rex looked like he’d been passed around the prison yard for the weekend in his press conference.
This is a game we would have and did lose last year. Where in the hell was the run D in the first half? Oh well just glad we squeaked one out against the Jets who always play us hard at home, I’ll take it.
Really glad we came from behind to take the game. We truly did “find a way to win”.
As I posted earlier – I missed the 1st half; and the second half wasn’t pretty. However, this team did not give up. Previous incarnations of the Dolphins would have thrown in the towel, so that is a big step in the right direction.
Go Phins!
And as I just mentioned in another post (and Admin implied earlier) we are now back in the playoff picture!
Hopefully Philbin doesn’t get “queasy” in the Ravens game.
I think we can do it!
I was really impressed with Dion Sims on Monday night. He is by far our best blocking tight end and a pleasant surprise as a huge receiving target downfield. Knowing that:
1) We don’t throw deep much anyway
2) Hartline is banged up
3) The Ravens are VERY physical at the line of scrimmage
I am hoping Lazor employs a lot of 2-TE sets with Clay and Sims in the game. I would keep Landry and Wallace as the 2 WRS and Miller as the single RB. This alignment will give us a lot of flexibility and get our best players on the field. A real big test of whether Lazor can scheme some good plays out of this new creative set. Certainly worth thinking about if you ask me…at least a portion of the time.
Yes. I remember in the Jet game that Dion started to his left, then ran back to his right to pick up a blitzing lineman. It was a great block. We ran that identical play vs the Bills a few weeks ago, and Dion missed the block. He took his time getting into position and he was way too late. T-hill got sacked.
So in two short weeks, Dion learned his lesson. In the NFL, you don’t jog into position, you run your butt off and get there. He learned and adjusted and made a great block on the same play he blew a few games ago. Well done.
Every single week for the past 3 years, Joe Philbin says “We need to get better.” Dion Sims definitely proved that he can and does get better.
I know this game was very hard to watch . But I am so glad that the built up pride this season instilled in our players finally came into the narrative. It seems that the very close loss in Denver may have taken the steam out of our team but mostly on Defense. In so many words they sort of admitted it in the post game interviews. But they fell back on an intangible missing from seasons past and refused to give in or give up. So many times we have had victories snatched from us with a more healthy and more inspired version of our team. This time was different, this game required us to dig not deeper but dig from a dark place rarely visited before and that place was pride. And thank the gods of football we finally possess it. In games past the familiar routine settled in and ineptitude followed until the final seconds of the final quarter ticked off with terrible and torturous routine as our players lackadaisically jog to the sideline and then off the field to another loss. Not this time and not this way. The elusive and impossible ghost like mental rejuvenation of bounce back is here and makes such a good wedding partner to our proven inspiration and heart grounded play. No guys! not this time! Our foundation remains strong even in the face of defeat and humiliation and is the force underneath the feet of every player just thrown the the ground on another busted play to get up, stand up, straighten shoulders, and hit em harder next time. This was the time albeit late , but this time for all the season’s games past that can never be reversed, for all the inspired play only to be gut punched by defeat in the end, this game for all of the trials and reasons to just give up, no, no , not this time! Its OUR time now was the message hidden in plain view between the missed tackles, perfectly timed catches, and sack in the 4th quarter. The time for waiting is over and our time is now! The new era of the Dolphins is emerging from the ground up foundation of pride , and we just keep getting back up and refuse to allow the threat of defeat influence any longer how our games turn out. Forever more we are the New Miami Dolphins. Forged from the past and ready to take on a proud future. Stay up Dolphin Fans this season is far from over and our best is yet to be seen.
PhinsUp
PhinsUp that was awesome!
And right here Wallace says “Its our time now” in the very beginning of this interview.
