Well, the Tua contract is behind us, and it’s time for him to step up.

The areas where I personally want him to improve are in December production and leadership.

As I’ve pointed out, the late-season collapses are NOT because of cold weather. Tua has played equally horribly in warm-weather December games as well. That needs to change.

I’d also like to see him become more firey. I know it’s not his personality, but he needs to pissed at times, especially at himself. Walking off the field with his head down happens far too often at the end of failed drives. It does not make your teammates try harder next time.

Remember the Jets’ Fail Mary game when Holland has the long TD right before halftime? Don’t forget that Tua threw not one but TWO picks inside of the 2-minute warning. That was one of his worst showings, and we won the game anyway because the Jets were so bad. We can’t have those kinds of games. Of course, pass-happy Mike McDaniel needs to help too.

As we all agree…like him or not, Tua is the man. The contract is done, and it’s time to surge ahead!

  1. One thing I noticed with McDaniel is i believe he is reluctant to run becuase of our O Line. Last year especially on short yardage I thought he would just hand the ball off but we dealt with injuries up front the entire year and instead of running behind Eichenberg he rather trust the quick passing game.

And that is my biggest worry this year is the line on both sides actually. On offense we got worse as Hunt got paid, so it will be unknowns at both guard positions and that is before any injuries up front.

On the other side of the ball, Wilkins left, AVG is gone, Chubb and Phillips are coming off of injury. Seiler has been great, but is he great or was it because of the attention Wilkins was attracting . The good thing is we signed a bunch of veterans who will contribute and promising rookies but yikes last year this defense did not look great when we couldn’t get in the backfield.

I saw a report on Tua’s rookie season. With all due respect to the guys on this list, Tua was playing handicapped. I mean, look at this hodgepodge bunch of no-names he had running routes for him!

  3. Just listening to Joe Rose Show this morning, off the top my head, Omar Kelly mentioned that Chop has been impressive in training camp. Eichenberg not so much – needs confidence. Bonner is doing well. He believes ODB will be back soon, and there was a mention of Cam Smith having some injury. Also, the QB 2 competition is heating up between Mike White and Skyler Thompson. He said Skyler is improving.

    That’s about all I remember.

Thanks for the report. Every year Skylar looks good in camp and preseason. When he played in 8 games a few years ago when Teddy and Tua kept getting hurt, he played adequately. I doubt he’ll overtake Mike White for the #2 spot, but that bar is pretty low,

  4. Admin, I agree with your main post and that is what I meant by saying Tua needs to grow up – i.e. the qualities you mentioned – becoming more Fiery and intense and becoming a leader. pretty please, Tua.

The problem is that in order to have fire and yell at someone, etc., you have to be having a great game yourself. If Tua is throwing INTs, then he can’t mouth off to his line, for example

  5. but he could shout at himself instead of sulking and repeating do-better-next-time platitudes?

  6. did I read Center Aaron Brewer injured his Achilles? our O-line might be even more patchwork this year and Sean’s 👆concerns a reality again 🙁

    1. Yes, Brewer injured his right hand.

  8. Well game on tonight let’s see how the backups play. Especially the oline. Would be nice for them to be solid no matter who’s under center so we gain some confidence. I don’t expect many starters playing.

Except for the K, P and longsnapper, I don’t recall any starters out there. This is good. No sense in getting anyone hurt

A few readers have pointed out that Jaelan Phillips is back at practice. He blew out his Achilles on Black Friday, so the recovery was 9 months. I hope he takes his time and eases back. No sense getting hurt in camp as we need him for Week 2 vs. the Bills.

  10. I don’t know if you guys are following up on the new kickoff rules, but, there’s been some additional rules added to the games. Namely: there will be no blocking, tackling, or calling the opponent a Nancy Pants. All players will be required to attend a post game meeting to discuss their feelings and update their pronouns…all while kneeling of course.

LOL, good one. I hate the new kickoff rule too…”allegedly” for player safety. When you think of the most severe injuries you’ve seen in football, NONE of them occurred on kickoffs. Phillips, Chubb, Tua…and those are just recent Dolphin injuries. Multiply that by 31 other teams, and virtually zero severe injuries occurred on kickoffs. Goodell is fixing something that isn’t broken.

    2. Funny Sean, but sadly not far from reality…

  11. White’s been cut so Sky must have done enough for them to move on. Plus over 3 M is cap savings so that’s a win too. Hopefully they can find a 3rd QB after the cuts.

  12. I’ve been a Needham supporter over the years so sad to see him go but as many have mentioned this probably means a younger cheaper player with more upside has done enough to get a shot. I can respect that. Pretty sure we’ll see him elsewhere unless his body is failing him. Good luck Nik!
