Several sources, including the usually reliable Peter King, report that Stephen Ross is once again trying to get his Dolphins to play in Europe. Again. Ross has zero concept of what “home field advantage” is. ZERO. NFL teams fight tooth and nail to gain home field advantage for the playoffs, and yet Ross just gives away precious home games as if they were pennies. Great, we get it. You want to encourage some soccer hooligans in London and Madrid to be Dolphin fans. How many wins do the foreign fans bring us? There is zero benefit to the players if we go to Europe again.Read More →

The only leak I have seen so far is that the Dolphins-Colts game will be on October 31.   Don’t know how accurate this is. Feel free to post here when you learn of any leaks… I have a feeling that Thanksgiving will be Miami @ Detroit, or Buffalo @ Detroit.Read More →

Hmmm, now when he gets a carry on Sundays, can we still call him Sony Michelle Obabma in our live game chats?  Probably not! Now that he is a Dolphin, we’ll respect him.   Could be a good signing.  We have a lot of RBs already, but I have to believe that Mike McDaniel sees something in him. Also, the NFL continues its absurd and almost obscene habit of taking forever to release its schedule.  Like I say every year, sports that have 82 games or even 162 can figure out and release their schedules in about 10 minutes.  The NFL thinks so highly of itselfRead More →

It’s draft day, and I just realized I haven’t made a single post about it!   Last year at this time, we were all speculating.   Now we’re all waiting for the season. I suppose one of our 4 picks could be a gem, but I’m not expecting it.  I cannot seriously think of one single current Dolphin who we can definitely improve on via the draft.   Sure, we MIGHT find a third-round tackle who is better than Austin Jackson, but if not, I’m content with Jackson still on his rookie (cheap) salary. Backup linebacker?   Yes, I’d draft one.  But that doesn’t mean I’d automatically cut oneRead More →

There are two distinct narratives about the Dolphins this off-season, and the differences are striking. ONE:   Chris Grier looks to have done an outstanding job–simply superb–in bringing in upgrades at major positions of need, including superstar All Pros and not just “slight improvements.”  Even more important, at least in my opinion, is that he signed our own players who we needed to keep.  He made Xavien Howard happy, kept Emmanuel Ogbah on our line, and saw the franchise value of Mike Gesicki.   He did all of this while still saving cap room and not jettisoning our TWO first-round draft picks next year. In addition, heRead More →

I found this interview to be interesting, as Xavien Howard gave his views on new coach Mike McDaniel.  (link below) I’ve actually been waiting for this.  I’m waiting for some Dolphin players–particularly on defense–to buy into McDaniel.  I think it’s looking good so far.  It’s all well and good to hear from new Dolphins who know McDaniel already (like Raheem Mostert, for example).  But when your defensive superstar comes out and praises the coach’s energy, that’s a good thing. I’m sure the Dolphin players were told to issue “no comment” about the firing of Brian Flores, but still, it was overly quiet.  Some players expressed some initial shock,Read More →

DeVante Parker is now a Patriot. The Dolphins have traded their oft-injured WR to New England for a 3rd round pick in the 2023 draft.  I was really hard on Parker during his first few years.  His lack of effort killed the Dolphins numerous times per game.  But then he really turned it on.  He began to reach for balls and use his height.   Never a speedster, he used his lumbering route-running and strength to fight off defensive backs, and really got better. 2021 showed, however, that Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki are the Dolphins’ prime threats.   Adding Tyreek Hill to that mix makes itRead More →

After a slow start, the Dolphins hit a couple of potential home runs with the acquisition of a player who everyone knew would be available (Terron Armstead) and a player who nobody expected to be available (Tyreek Hill). Both are devastating weapons that immediately bolster our team.   There is no wait time involved.   No patience need to develop a guy.  No experimenting with how to use a guy.  I have no doubt that these guys are still prime, All Pro players.  The only concern is keeping them healthy. Armstead was on the radar for a long time, and as the days went by, he remained unsignedRead More →

Although I’m not impressed with any of our new free agent signings, I am very pleasantly surprised that the Dolphins have bolstered and re-signed our own free agents, especially on defense. Defense was clearly the strength of the team, and retaining as many player as possible was the right move.   I thought for sure that Chris Grier would let guys walk, but he has not,  Emanuel Ogbah is locked in.  Duke Riley.  Elandon Roberts.  Nick Needham.  And more.   Plus, perhaps most important, Josh Boyer will be back calling the shots. For the first time in quite a while, the defense will have CONTINUITY.   None ofRead More →

I admit that the NFL’s salary cap rules are way over my head, but I also know that using a franchise tag on a player protects him and keeps him on your team…probably. Placing the tag on Mike Gesicki does not make him Dolphins’ property.   He can still sign anywhere he wants, as long as the new team is willing to give us draft picks.  That rarely happens, but it’s possible for a tight-end-desperate team.  It would have been better for the Dolphins to re-sign Gesicki long term, and then use the tag on Emmanuel Ogbah.  Our history (I should say Grier and Flores’s history)Read More →

Brian Flores has accepted a job with the Steelers as their LB coach.   It didn’t take long for Flores to appear in the NFL again, and it also seems like he never left.   Since the day Stephen Ross fired him, he has been in the news complaining about one thing or another. Bill Belichick sent a text to the wrong “Brian” by mistake?  Better sue Stephen Ross for that ! The Dolphins fired a guy who seemingly couldn’t get along with anyone?  Better sue the entire NFL!  I’ll sue the Giants too, while I’m at it Can’t make the playoffs during your tenure AND can’tRead More →

Zac Taylor began the Super Bowl with a crucial mistake that the Bengals never quite recovered from.  On the Bengals’ very first drive, they reached midfield and faced a 4th and 1.  He should have punted.  The Bengals had shut down the Rams’ running game, and pinning them deep was the right thing to do.  Interception Machine Matthew Stafford is at his worst when he’s in his own territory.  Even if the Bengals picked up the first down, they still were 50 yards away from the end zone.   There is no guarantee that an risky, unnecessary 4th down play will get you any points.  HeRead More →

If compliments equated Super Bowl victories, then we will be champions for many years to come. This week, Mike McDaniel has been called an innovative genius more times than even Albert Einstein.  His knowledge of X’s and O’s, the way he inspires players, the plays he draws up…all you hear about is what a can’t-miss coach we have here. Unfortunately, we heard the same exact things about Flores and Gase and Philbin.   Unfortunately, McDaniel has zero experience.  Perhaps the lack of experience is forgiveable if he comes from a juggernaut program where he at least helped a team–if not led–to a Super Bowl.  But no.  His whole careerRead More →

If this news had come three weeks ago, I’d be irate.   I’d be saying my usual litany about how Stephen Ross has blown it again.  Something like:   He just hired a guy who has never called a play in his life.  He’s never been allowed to make a personnel decision.  Never been in a defensive meeting. Never had to manage a game clock.  Never played in the NFL.  Just another kid coordinator with zero head coaching experience. All of the above is true about our new coach, as Stephen Ross continues his charitable contributions by giving away yet another head coaching job to yet anotherRead More →

We now interrupt our Stephen Ross Weekly Tankgate Drama with some different news… Doug Pederson has been hired by Jacksonville.  HE was the coach he needed.  By far the best option out there. With Pederson and Daboll and Harbaugh avoiding Miami like the plague, the stakes are dire.   There is still time for Ross to hit a home run and bring in an experienced coach like Rex Ryan or Todd Bowles, but things are looking grim. The two unqualified kid coordinators (from San Fran and Dallas) aren’t even on the radar any more.  Who the hell else is out there? Pederson’s Jaguar interviews were extremelyRead More →

So let’s get this straight… The Broncos met with Flores, but John Elway didn’t take it seriously, showing up late AND DRUNK. The Giants knew they were hiring Brian Daboll, but gave Brian Flores an interview anyway. Bill Belichick accidentally texted Congratulations to the wrong Brian. The Raiders did not even bother to call Flores. The Jaguars did not even bother to call Flores. The Vikings did not even bother to call Flores. The Texans did not even bother to call Flores. And yet, with all of those seemingly legitimate gripes against all of those named above, Flores decides to name Stephen Ross as a defendant in hisRead More →
